Glory From the Beginning

August 01, 2025 – 08/01/2025
8 – New Beginnings
1 – Unity
Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him. Luke 8:1 NKJV
Glory From the Beginning
The one-two punch of God’s goodness is what I like to call the “wow factor” – the glory of God in our relationship with Him. When you don’t see God’s goodness, you miss His glory altogether.

Moses, the Old Testament rock star who parted the Red Sea, turned the Nile to blood, and talked to God like He was talking to a friend, told his friend he wanted a backstage pass to the greatest show on earth. Moses wanted more out of his relationship with the Creator of the universe.

So, he approached God in child-like faith and dared to do what you and I should do every day — he asked for more. Way more. “…show me your glory.” – Exodus 33:18

This is one of the all-time epic moments in human history. God is going to let Moses in on something He doesn’t let anyone else see — a peek, a glimpse, a shimmering second or two at the very heart of who God is. Not His work or His ways, but Moses is going to see what God really, really, really looks like. Incredible!

This is God’s response to that bold request… “And the LORD said, ‘I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence…” Exodus 33:19

The Cherokee nation knew it, too. Check out this spot-on tribal tale:

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He told the boy, “A terrible fight is going on inside me. It is a fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and self-doubt."

The old man continued: “The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” He then told the boy, “This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute, then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The wise old chief replied, “The one you feed.”

What wolf have you been feeding? Just know the wolf of evil thoughts will eventually devour you, and likely others as well. Thoughts become actions, and there is always collateral damage.

That’s not you! You can control your thought life and ensure the evil wolf starves to death.
et_pb_blurb"}">Glory From the Beginning

This is God’s response to that bold request… “And the LORD said, ‘I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence…” Exodus 33:19
His very name is Glory! So proclaim it!
Grounded in FaithDeclare!I am happy that I understand the heart of my Father. He tells me to ask, and I have seen the wonder of His Glory in my life when I see Him move. He has placed on my heart the things that bring His goodness into my life. What an amazing Dad I have.

I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. Psalm 31:7 NLT
Progress Not Perfection
Heaven applauds when you bring a lost sheep home to the house of God. But what is Heaven’s reaction when you blow it witnessing to a co-worker or trying to bring a friend to the hope and peace of Jesus? What happens when you epically fail?

God smiles! He applauds!

Father God is pleased with your effort because you are not charged with the results — He is! We are told to plant seeds and water them, but never are you and I called harvesters. God Himself reserves that difficult job for Himself.

Know this: the devil will try to convince you God is disappointed, even angry at your failure. The enemy wants you to give up and shut up. Remember, the Bible says the devil is the “father of lies” who stands at the throne, accusing you day and night.

When you’re worried you’re going to mess up, you freeze up and shut up. It’s a huge win for hell when the enemy convinces you God is angry at you for not sharing the Gospel or messing it all up. My friend, let your mind be healed of that mess! Christ shed His blood to come against ALL the work of the devil, including his lies, which are many.

You are a work in progress, learning and growing in wisdom and relationship. God is certainly proud of your efforts. Better Words, Better Life
Once you get God into your mouth, your head will naturally follow. Consequently, get God into your head and He will make the 12-inch drop into your heart and your feelings, and you will change for the better!

When you let God get a hold of your mouth, your life will change, including your mental life – the toughest area to tame. Self-doubt, hatred, past failures, and inability to forgive will be defeated if you can just speak right words – the Word of God – over yourself.

For many of us, it’s like speaking a new language. The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalm 28:7 NLT
Time for Favor
I was a young man when Pastor Howard Richardson called me by name at a tent meeting in Grand Prairie, Texas. He was praising and seeking the Lord, then said the words I will never forget.

“Troy, when I see you, the Lord shows me something really off-the-wall. I see you catching a great big fish. When you catch it, the Lord is saying it’s a sign that your ministry is not going to be a little bitty ministry, but a great big ministry.”

That was certainly an off-the-wall word. Months passed, and I began to forget the prophecy that would forever shape my life.

At that time, there was a huge perk at the company I worked for – an all-expense paid vacation to Las Hadas, Mexico. For a young couple, it was a real Godsend!

The food was fabulous, the beach was beautiful, and the accommodations were five-star. We could either go scuba diving or deep-sea fishing. Leanna was excited about fishing, but I was not. My last fishing trip was a 12-hour pukefest, but I agreed. I’m so glad I did.

There were six of us in the boat, and the sailfish were biting. The captain said he had never seen anything like it – fish on all six lines at the same time! It took hours and hours, and when my turn came, I began reeling, and my line snapped. Bummer!

However, my tired bride gladly handed me her pole, and I pulled in a 9-foot, 6-inch sailfish. I never will forget that night as I lay in bed exhausted. I was almost asleep when Leanna calmly said, “Troy, do you remember the prophecy Howard gave you about catching the big fish?”

I nearly fell out of bed. That’s when things started to happen. I came back from Mexico knowing that God had a worldwide ministry for me. Our church began to take shape, and God began to bless Leanna and me, showering us with favor.

Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins. Hebrews 7:27 NLT
Fight for Good
I have a friend who was an Emmy Award-winning television producer, yet for all her success, she was a failure at leadership. She was young and backslidden, but Jesus shouted to her one day through the voice of an angry co-worker. It’s good she listened.

“You argue over everything! Only you have the answer. Your opinion or idea is always best. People have stopped listening to you because you don’t know what hill to die on — you die on them all. You need to learn to choose your battles!”

Wow! That was a wakeup call for my friend and an alarm that should be sounding in your ear. It’s true — not everything is worth fighting over. And not everything is worth fighting for. Make no mistake, upgrade is worth fighting for.

“Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.” – Luke 9:46

Jesus’ 12 best friends, His disciples, had it right. Jesus-driven thinking helps and heals. This is what the Bible has to say on the subject: For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

Love that Leads to New Things

Steeped in the Word
July 26, 2025 – 07/26/2025
7 – The Spirit of God
26 – Beloved
He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. Hebrews 7:26 NLT
Love That Leads to New Things
The Word, the heart of God or how we know Jesus, always starts off sweet but brings us to a bitter place. What the heck is that all about?

It’s the Lord leading us and directing us into places we would never otherwise dare to venture. He doesn’t tell us everything up front, but once we step out into that territory, we become committed to something we would have never committed to otherwise.

Example: God led me to fix an old woman’s roof. This led to me finding out she had no food. When I bought her food, her boyfriend said he needed food, and so did some of his friends. This led to a weekly grocery outreach, which has now become the OpenDoor Food Bank. My wife and I have embraced it as our life’s work.

I’m no Noah. God said, “Build an ark.” Without even knowing what an Ark was, Noah did. Had God said, “Troy, build a food bank,” I don’t think I would have listened. Instead, Jehovah Sneaky let me step into the waters of the unknown, then wade in through the shallow end before immersing me neck deep in serving the poor. The sweet part of taking care of the poor is that I see miracles, salvations, and I experience great favor with God. Now, here’s the bitter part. Feeding the poor cost my family dearly.

Oftentimes, we gave away food when we didn’t have any ourselves. We went home to a house with no glass in the windows and no electricity. There’s no money in feeding the poor. For years, debt and doubt hounded me. The OpenDoor Food Bank is bittersweet for me. It is something wonderful I had to pay a great big price for. When we love Him, we go where we never would have gone without Him.

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Flexibility

Steeped in the Word
July 25, 2025 – 07/25/2025
7 – The Spirit of God
25 – Grace for Grace
Therefore, he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. Hebrews 7:25 NLT
Flexibility

Today is the day to set yourself in a posture of flexibility. Your flexibility when things don’t go your way will bless others, and in doing so, you will also be blessed.

The above words were a hard lesson for me to learn. I had been a pretty rigid guy with strong opinions until those words challenged me to evaluate my heart.

God wants you to learn to roll with the punches because life throws a lot of them, especially when you’re advancing the Kingdom. The devil is looking for an opportunity to sucker punch you away from bringing Heaven to Earth, so he messes with your plans.

The next time all hell breaks loose and your well-planned day, event, mission trip, or outreach doesn’t go as planned, don’t throw a fit and quit! Don’t blame others or stomp around making angry excuses. Bless yourself and others by being flexible. Look at the pros and cons of flexibility:

Pro: You can have peace in any situation.

Con: You give up control of that situation.

Pro: You remain an effective witness if a situation doesn’t go the way you planned.

Con: You will look bad and be a poor witness if you throw a fit or get ugly.

Pro: You keep a good relationship with Godly people who do things well.

Con: You don’t get to chew somebody up or verbally slap them around.

Pro: You remain in the presence of the Holy Spirit and don’t run Him off.

Con: Your feelings are not known to all present.

That list of cons haunted me. I had been guilty so many times! But that’s not me anymore. I know when things don’t go as planned, something better will come out of it. How about you? Could you use peace and an effective witness? Roll with the punches!

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Matthew 7:24 NLT
Follow Him, Not the News

Don’t act surprised by the headlines. The Bible told you persecution is coming in America against those of us who demonstrate God’s goodness.

I didn’t say persecution was coming to America because it’s coming from within America against its own Christian community. Look at the news, social media, and entertainment. Jesus followers are being called evildoers when we are not. We are the white hats, the good guys bringing real hope to generations of lost people. Know this: the good guys are warriors!

The enemy and those under his dark influence need to defame Christians so he can remove any influence we have over the culture. Though it’s hard to endure, this is part of the end times agenda, and it is necessary.

Why? Because true Christ followers need to be set apart from the world. We need to look and act differently so people can choose!

As the time for Jesus’ return draws near, people will be deceived. The devil likes to substitute the truth for a lie, and that lie, the Bible warns, is that the world will call good “evil,” and evil will be called “good.” It’s already happening. Should you hide in your home to protect yourself and your family?

Huge mistake! You and I are called to fight for the souls of those who hate us and “spitefully use us.” Step up your efforts to love people into the kingdom! The battle is at hand! War is upon us, so lock and load your spiritual weapons.

And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. – 1 Peter 3:13-16

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

His Word Overcomes

Steeped in the Word
July 23, 2025 – 07/23/2025
7 – The Spirit of God
23 – (+) Being in the Presence of God (-) Death
This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’ Jeremiah 7:23 NLT
His Word Overcomes

Years ago, my son, Luke, and I were sitting on the “home run porch” watching the Texas Rangers play ball. For a while, I was confident enough in my athletic abilities to pray for a ball to come our way. It would be cool to get our hands on a real major league ball.

In the fourth inning, Michael Young drove a homer right to my seat. If you saw it on TV, I was the fat guy pushing people over to protect myself from the monster shot. I screamed like a little girl and jumped two full seats to my left to avoid that ball.

The awesome dad right in front of me – apparently a real man – held his glove up, caught the ball, then handed it to his very impressed 9-year-old. Luke looked and me. I looked at Luke, and we busted out laughing.

Side note: Be careful what you pray for because you might look stupid when you get it. One of the guys I crawled over was a 19-year-old soldier on leave from Iraq. For some reason, the whole situation reminded me of Private First Class Brendan Schweigart.

A New York native, Schweigart told his mother he always carried his Bible into battle, tucked underneath his bulletproof shield. One day, he was shot in the chest with a high-powered rifle. That Gideon Pocket Bible from boot camp saved his life by shielding his heart from the bullet.

To this day, he has that Bible, bullet lodged into its pages. Sniper rounds entered his arm and torso, but the one meant for his heart stopped somewhere in the book of Psalms. I think it’s a great idea to keep your heart protected with God’s Word.

Just like that soldier putting God’s word under his body armor didn’t know it would cause him to dodge a bullet, you and I don’t realize hiding God’s Word in our heart causes us to dodge something much more lethal – sin. Be intentional – shield your heart. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. – Psalms 119:11

Which Wolf Do You Feed?

Grounded in FaithDeclare! My soul is grateful that I have been born into the family of God. As a blood-bought child of the Lord Most High, I am intentional about hiding His Word in my heart so everything about my life lines up with the Lord and brings Glory to my Father.
