Madeline Martin is a New York Times, USA Today, Publisher's Weekly, and international bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance with books that have been translated into over twenty-five different languages.

She lives in sunny Florida with her two daughters (known collectively as the minions), two incredibly spoiled cats and a man so wonderful he's been dubbed Mr. Awesome. She is a die-hard history lover who will happily lose herself in research any day. When she's not writing, researching or 'moming', you can find her spending time with her family at Disney or sneaking a couple spoonfuls of Nutella while laughing over cat videos. She also loves research and travel, attributing her fascination with history to having sp

It's like when you read a book you can't stop thinking about, but instead of lasting a couple days, the experience continues for the length of writing the book.
I love when I come up with a hook that makes me gasp out loud or when a plot point hits me and I can't write fast enough to keep up. And I love my characters. I may torture them and put them through hell, but I take great care in constructing their pasts, their strengths and their weaknesses. It is not uncommon for me to get choked up toward the end of the book. What can I say? I love the people who live in my head. :)(less)

I write a small scene that popped in my head or I look at a whimsical picture like Margarita Kareva's photos and I start a story about how the woman ended up where she was. I'll do that for about thirty minutes or so and then I've found I've warmed up my creative writing muscles.
For time when writer's block lasts a long time, I make sure I still set my alarm for 4:30 every day and I still get up and write. Even if it's 100 words, it's better than nothing and still keeps my toes dipped in the writing pool.(less)

Birthday Month Giveaways!

It's my birthday month and one of my favorite ways to celebrate is to give away copies of books by authors I love.

I've made so many amazing friends in this community and I always end up with extra books when I go to signings or when I buy on their release days and then happen to get an extra copy from the publisher.

There's nothing better to do with those extra copies than share them with all of Read more of this blog post »

“Reading is...” His brows knit together and then his forehead smoothed as the right words appeared to dawn on him. “It’s going somewhere without ever taking a train or ship, an unveiling of new, incredible worlds. It’s living a life you weren’t born into and a chance to see everything colored by someone else’s perspective. It’s learning without having to face consequences of failures, and how best to succeed.” He hesitated. “I think within all of us, there is a void, a gap waiting to be filled by something. For me, that something is books and all their proffered experiences.”

“Deeper still was the profound understanding for mankind as she lived in the minds of the characters. Over time, she had found such perspectives made her a more patient person, more accepting of others. If everyone had such an appreciation for their fellow man, perhaps things such as war would not exist.”
