most of the scenes are super dry, and i remember them being pretty detailed. i wonder if it is 1. the issue of translation, because russian tranlastions are notorious for being better than the original 2. my child brain that was very imaginative and pictured way more elaborate scenes than what was described 3. my child brain that did not have a concept of taste in books and couldn't tell good writing from bad. hm.

i cannot explain to you how excited i am to have this book on my hands right now. this is a volume of lectures on the beat generation, written and compiled (and at some point taught in a university) by allen ginsberg. i feel like im having a birthday party rn

just a personal note - i'll be skimming from now on, and i swear this is the last book i request on netgalley at least for a while. i'm not good at guessing how good a book is gonna be

my forensics lecture is putting me to sleep so i pulled up this disappointingly boring book where nothing happens to read while im bored anyway

okay this is it!!! this is where the good stuff comes in!!! one of my favourite episodes in the show and obviously plotlines in the book is the one about princess Violet and when the Mord-Sith come in after (i know i will be spitting venom bc the scenes will be disgusting but at least there'll finally be real action). also i'm just curious to see my own reaction to this in particular, after all these years lol

so here's the deal: i grew up on tolstoy and dostoyevsky's self-righteousness and i would anyday reread their ramblings on morality, politics and other vague shit randomly inserted into the narrative. i eat that shit up like crazy, i love it. but the thing is, those guys knew their smooth transitions, and they rarely delivered such thoughts via character monologue. that've been too random & out of place. like here.

the language here throws me off bc i cant imanibe a princess lady saying "okay okay.....you can do this" like im sorry but you gotta keep the atmosphere going

all this talk of war and resistance and other sorts of action, but the actual something is yet to happen. this started off so strong, and while i still admit i care for the romance, it's getting harder to care for the story overall. also there's lots of info delivered in form of monologue and ugh yk how annoying that is
