"Morning is wiser than evening" is INDEED a very popular r̶u̶s̶s̶i̶a̶n̶ Kalyazi saying. my grandma's absolute favourite and also present in like every fairytale. good

great now i am obsessed with thinking about the russian hardcover editions of the Sword of Truth series (all 11 books.... on my shelf.... incredible) which i last saw around 6 years ago in a massive bag tucked to the back of the closet in an apartment that doesn't even exist anymore where my grandma used to live (bless her resting soul). anyway i hope they're having a great time in some local library haha

Malachiasz: this 👌🏻 close to k wording Nadya while literally dripping blood from an eye on his
chin because he is a terrifying monster of epic proportions that does not remember himself anymore

Nadya: Malachiasz is the most ANNOYING bitch ive ever MET in my entire LIFE and i wish he werent so infuriatingly CONDESCENDING

i've seen others refer to this book as describing common sense things – agreed! – BUT. all the more value to it for doing so. so many whites feel intimidated by discussions of Black life, and DiAngelo efficiently breaks the walls for those willing to listen.

in all, this book is good, but personally, the only new stuff i'm getting from it is an extensive list of further reading.

i've said it before but this story has a certain aura around it that i can't quite describe. the closest i can pin it down to is this particular type of obscure gloomy soviet cartoons, with eerie music and little to no dialogue. the only difference is that i'm infinitely disressed by those cartoons and can never watch them, but i can't put this book down. amazing

i cannot shake off the fact that, had this book been written in Russian, it would have had so many puns on "hope" solely because Nadya's full name, Nadezhda, is the same word for "hope" in Russian. Serefin thinking that he cannot afford to rely on hope would be so FUNNY pls

i am going to say a really weird thing right now. reading this in Russian makes the atmosphere This much more enticing and the story This much more vivid. the writing obviously has that uncomfortable shadow of translation, but it's somehow still working. didn't think i'd be even MORE invested but i AM

i had a Russian Language/Literature teacher in middle school that would call me NADEZHDA and never just Nadia (or at least my last name) every time she addressed me because she was a terrifying woman and i was her favourite. this is exactly the vibes i am now getting from Marzhenya (spelling could be off) + Nadya interaction ngl

can we talk about how shelving a different edition of a book you've already shelved feels like untangling a ball of delicate yarn when pulling on a string means either fixing the entire mess or tying a hundred and twenty-four new knots? not that i had experience with either of these things haha but like. can we

Demeter suggesting Nico go "farming" to "build character" is just, like, a universal experience of every emo-kid having casual Tuesday night dinner with their family

is there something like The Demigods' Guide To Manhattan? i feel like Percy's advice to take the subway instead of a flying pig would be somewhere between Grover's Top Tin Can Landfills and the featured article on taxi cab services with Argus as the driver of the month

(i think it's around 75%) this is suddenly so convoluted. maybe it's just me but the further i go the sadder i get. i guess it's cool from a narrative perspective that i'm starting to despise the characters i liked, but from a purely Human point it's dreadful

the show BETTER have the scene with 20 kids in full armour squished into a single elevator with robotic-voice rendition of Stayin' Alive bursting through the speakers in awkward silence
