i will NEVER understand why this novel in verse is a fifth/sixth-grade curriculum in russia. no twelve-year-old knows what an Aeneid is, or why Byron is a great intertext, or why Onegin is the hero of the century. no fifth-grader is gonna appreciate just how heartbreaking this story is. like, yes, Tatiana absolutely does own Onegin in the end, but she is also unhappy and that's the tragedy. ugh. 10/10🤧
