kinda ridiculous to say it but i didn't rlly expect to be so hyped for the show while rereading these?? like. i am imagining this so vividly. i'll legit lose my mind when we get the trailer i promise you

im too invested in this to update tbh but please know that im enjoying myself

can we all collectively decide to make this like, a bible of sorts of womanhood? i think we would all benefit as a society

ive noticed that whenever i get the urge to start a book in the middle of the night, the book is always exceptionally good and absolutely un-put-down-able

oh my god what.....i been pulling a YA protagonist and not realizing i was holding my breath.....bro this is beautiful

extremely engrossing read. i suddenly wish to go back to my roots and the time when i was reading books about Pushkin's life by serious researchers at the ripe old age of 12, maybe getting like 20% of historical context. if this book was in my hands then i'd be way better off, not gonna lie (it very well could've been if i just knew how to use the internet properly rip)

the book is public domain and formatting is ATROCIOUS but i am so grateful for a Dorian-Gray-like romance in early 20th century Russian setting

not sure what possessed me but i am now annotating in balck pen on the margins. i have a lot to say apparently

i doubt i wouldve ever picked up this book on my own but i am lowkey in love with it now (and Delaney is,,,,amazing)

i will NEVER understand why this novel in verse is a fifth/sixth-grade curriculum in russia. no twelve-year-old knows what an Aeneid is, or why Byron is a great intertext, or why Onegin is the hero of the century. no fifth-grader is gonna appreciate just how heartbreaking this story is. like, yes, Tatiana absolutely does own Onegin in the end, but she is also unhappy and that's the tragedy. ugh. 10/10🤧

so i don't know why this is not shelved as a Eugene Onegin edition but rather as Lotman's commentary, but we gotta roll with it because i love my books to match the editions of those i have shelved here. this edition is gorgeous, both the dust jacket and under it, as well as the illustration throughout. i got this mainly for the aforementioned commentary, and from what i could tell it is every lit nerd's dream

also me: is absolutely crushed while reading despite knowing perfectly well what the play is about

book 2 is dragging out, literally all it is 200 pages later is war and war and war and war. gets pretty boring at times. i GOTTA say tho, it's still compulsively readable because of the writing style – simplistic, full of jargon and such, but god does that help in keeping momentum

thinkin abt how if this series was rightfully pitched as "perfect for fans of six of crows" it would've been 10 times more popular than it is
