i like vampire stories because of their suspense, but here everything's too obvious and dull and i'm a bit disappointed rip

not much to update on but i just wanna mark the progress. still disgusting, even more so now in fact. amazing how i just slip into the mind of the pervert and see what he does so clearly, though i'm glad i have brain cells to still hate him (which, turns out, not everybody does and that's the problem).

the good thing is that the narrator is extremely unlikeable and unreliable. it's somehow easier to read a story as shocking as this one when it's told by and about a pathetic, lying loser!

yes i KNOW being repulsive is the whole point of this book and im beginning to see why i will probably still rate it 4-5 stars, but it's just. REPULSIVE

im reading a completely different edition which i'll fix once i can (it's also in russian and weirdly i can tell it's a translation even though it's by nabokov himself. should've known better, it's pretty awkward). i read disturbing, i read provoking, but it's rare when i am utterly disgusted and can barely handle things on page wow

a gang of kids on bicycles somehow being involved in some ghastly sequence of events (at least 30% of the time one of them portrayed by finn wolfhard should an on-screen adaptation be produced) is indeed a very pleasant trope in fiction, i must confess
