Re-reading this before I write a long blog about it. Been a long time since I've read some of my own books...

Alright; I quit on trying to write more before midnight; I'm going to finish reading this, then see how I feel about writing more.

Without all this recapping (as though someone would pick up a book that clearly said "The End" and "Book the Thirteenth" on the cover, without having read the other books, and expect to understand everything in it), none of these later books would have to have been padded out so much. Hundreds of extra pages of re-reading about things we all already know.

13 books in, and it just now occurred to the kids to kill Olaf. And I'm betting by the next page they decide it's a bad idea. *sigh*

Taking a break (also known as a good night's sleep), as this book is even less credible than the last. The only good thing remaining about these books seems to be the narrative asides.

This series has lost all plausibility. A few adults overlooking a few details, sure, but the whole thing has gotten out of hand. Everyone other than the orphans (&perhaps Lemony) is an imbecile.

By this point in the series, every time Olaf appears & the adults fail to listen to the children, I keep hoping one of them will simply pull out a knife and stab him to death, then pull the left boot off his corpse to prove their point.

Got through 3.5 books Monday, and none yesterday. Have another to pick up from the library today.

Ahh... Torture. Nothing like a little torture to drive an already beyond-the-pale story well beyond anyplace a middle-grades book ought be. sigh.

"My friend, I wonder if you would be so good as to stop staring at me as if I were your day's gift of lunacy..."

"...you would go on to live what would seem a perfectly normal life. . .after all, most people think it's normal to have a nameless sorrow at the bottom of your soul."

This book is a metaphor for what I'm going through creatively; the pain I'm experiencing as a reader at the strict & formulaic structure mirrors Nita's realization of the sacrifice she's agreed to, in that these formulas & structures are the sacrifice I've set myself to for my next several books. I wonder whether I'm brave enough to follow through. I wonder whether this is just another small suicide.

Fun story, so far. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Not likely to finish today, so I leave the rest for the morrow.

I'm not even to page 1 and I'm already frustrated: They made an AR app to go with the book, but it's computer-and-browser only! No smartphone browser support, no iOS app, just the worst sort of AR, based on the unmoving POV of a webcam, and forcing one to read the book in front of a computer, or forgo the extra content. Bleh.

Bleh, just more fairy-this and fairy-that. The first book was promising, but the series seems now to have but one note to play. I'll read through the blurbs of the others and, if all fairy, I'll skip the rest. What wasted potential.

Been reading this a page or three at a time for a while, absorbing the information.

No, wait: Also fart jokes. Dwarves are just mobile outlets for bathroom humor to the author.

The author has turned dwarves into a giant poop joke. *sigh*

I do not understand why Four, who has a "communicate with creatures" power, is being so cruel to this creature, rather than communicating. What a jerk.
