What? Prerequisites to understand this book which I don't have? Bah! I'll just go ahead and learn this stuff first anyway, and if I find I really need that prerequisite stuff later... Well, I guess I'll burn that bridge when I come to it!

Done! Finally, finished! No more! Ugh, and what a slog it's been.

This thing is paced like an hour-long detective/drama on TV... if they had a full 24-episode season to solve one crime. At this point I think I'm only reading because of the psychological trap of sunk costs - I've effectively already watched the first 17 episodes, and I can't get that time back, so I'll slog through the other 7 episodes to see how it all ends.

Picking this up again; trying to finish the library books I have out so I can get through the dystopias I purchased before I burn out on dystopias altogether.

Going to see about reading through this before morning. Forgot I'd checked it out, saw it while working out tonight, eager to return to this world for a few hours.

This one is a bit slower read than Reinventing Comics.

Teel is finished with Reinventing Comics: The Evolution of an Art Form
...and, finished. It's grand to be able to look back at the last decade and see what he got right & what's still taking it's time coming. Some of this book's ideas seem to have been part of Apple's roadmap for the same period, esp. re: digital creation & distribution, and even making the Internet zoomable, touchable, and immersive. This is where I'll be going with my comics.

Read this when it was new, re-reading it as I prepare to get back into making comics - apparently I should never have stopped making comics; looking at the reviews here, most people's complaints are that in the last 10 years, digital comics & the infinite canvas never caught on. I never stopped believing in it, and I'm about to start doing something big with it. Starting here.

I don't understand why the fascists would so insist that dissenters not be allowed to flee the country; they can only stir up trouble from inside, and if they do they're killed & the story silenced... Just let 'em go and save the hassle and the bullets!

While hintingly reminiscent of Ayn Rand before, everything post-election has been as preposterous and tiresome as the nation's rapid decline in Atlas Shrugged, and this book is rapidly sinking to that level of loathsomeness. Ugh.

This book reads like high fantasy, to me. A few steampunk flourishes don't alter the stakes, structure, style, and feel of the text. Note: I like high fantasy even less than thrillers.

Sticking a non-SciFi dystopia in, here and there. Giving it a shot, anyway.

So far, it's like I'm re-reading (or reading a continuation of) the first/second parts of The Cat Who Walked Through Walls. In fact, this whole book seems to have been told in that one, as background. Am I wasting my time?

Just learned this is in the same universe as The Cat Who Walked Through Walls, one of the two worst books I've read this year. Sigh. I may need to quit this one early; we'll see.

Been getting through a couple ep's per workout, and the best thing about it seems to be the non-sequitur fake ads at the end of each episode. I'll write more later, but there's so much "show, don't tell" that I frequently become lost and can't TELL what's going on.

This reads like a scifi adventure serial, not like a dystopian scifi novel. It's complicated, because I like the story, settings, species, ideas, politics, et cetera (generally, if not universally), but not the constant requirement of imminent destruction/peril or, sometimes, the action pacing.

Very engaging & interesting, so far, though I worry it's beginning to tap the ever-increasing-peril well I loathe so much.

Beginning to come together enough that a plot, somewhere in this book's future, is hinted at. I go to sleep now; perhaps I'll read more, tomorrow?

Trying way too hard to be gritty, and it rapidly fell into the fast-paced cadence of pop-thrillers. Sigh.

Listened to the first episode (and a few minutes of the second) this morning. Very radio drama, very period, so far ... neither of which is normally my taste. Will give it a fair chance, though; it should only take 6 or 7 weeks of workouts to hear the whole thing out.

The writing is generally less dry & cumbersome since leaving the war behind, though the dialogue is tending more toward the sort of writerly-cleverness which I so loathed in the last Heinlein I read. It isn't amusing, it's distasteful.
