Oh, good. In one quick scene, with little effort, all the mistakes/bad-decisions and plot of the last 30 pages are rendered undone. Here we are, where we started. Ugh.

There's too much romance/young-love in this series; it distracts and interferes with the adventure too much, a sorry excuse for "conflict" in a situation with more than enough potential for meaningful conflicts.

I have 9 requested from the library, but it'll be awhile. Hope this one doesn't have a cliffhanger ending.

I'm only giving this one 3 stars, because of how painful and difficult this journey was. The other books were light & fun & exciting, leading to ~20 pages of intense magical climax where lives were at stake. This one was emotionally draining throughout, with mere sparkles of lightheartedness instead of the steady bright light of the other 3, and then had an even higher-stakes climax. I'm drained.

Earlier, when Yellowrose was incorrectly referred to as Yellowstone, I let it slide, but here you've got "Rosenthorn" for Rosethorn, one of the principal characters of this series. That's a distracting editing failure even I know how to get a computer to do automatically.

This book isn't as fun as the first three were. Too much wallowing in sickness, weariness, pain, and death. Yech.

Started reading this a bit on the weekend. Should be able to finish it today.

That truck should not have started. It has been sitting, literally untouched, for eight years. Ack!

"Our project for the day is to make blueberry cupcakes." - That doesn't make sense; blueberries wouldn't be in season at that time of year. Aliens, superpowers, whatever, but get the details right!

Oh no! Pirates! *cough*

Suddenly, 20 pages from the end, they are telepathic. Literally speaking into one another's minds. For no good reason and, as far as I can tell, with no precedent in this book.

Ah, good old-fashioned: Children's books which get me crying over remembrances for dead characters I either hardly know or don't know at all.

A little science before I start digging in to the YA adventure books.

Telegraphed. That's the word. Everything in the book is telegraphed.

Let's see how well I remember the first...

The meat: consumed. The sauce: 150pp of historical and mythological context, details, & examples, apparently - but not right now.

Hopefully, all this academic reading will really enhance my noodle's journey for readers.

Last night this was okay, tonight it's putting me to sleep again.

That's enough for now, I hope - not nearly putting me to sleep, tonight, though sleep is wanting. I need to come up with a goal for my noodle to strive toward; perhaps it will come to me in a dream.

Aha! Starting Chapter 1 of Part 1 fifty pages into the text! Why didn't I think of that?

I feel, as a modern reader, that the author should be putting [SPOILER ALERT] all over this thing; he's just ruined the ending of Anna Karenina for me, and I expect he's not done simply giving away endings, yet...

Quitting attempts at sleep for now, to read, though last night this one put me to sleep within 15 pages.

I'm apparently starting work on a new book/Saga today, so I'd better get this read fast, so I can put a noodle on the Hero's Journey.

Yeah... That's what I thought at the beginning of the first book. Duh.

...because, of course, what would the plot be without another *twist*?
