Hurting for Sophie right now. No matter how mature she appears the Elves need to remember she's only a child still.

Apparently cryokinesis is "useless"? And pyrokinesis is forbidden? So far not bad but this worls has odd rules.

Picked this one up randomly as a recommendation on my librarys ebook site. So far I'm enjoying it. 👍

I appreciate Sophie having absolutely no goddamned patience for how clueless the Elves are about grief and death. It's frankly refreshing. I can't count how many MC's I've read who just can't even begin to fathom death like it never happens.

Despite some minor world building objections, I do still enjoy this. Prodigy New Kid at a fancy Boarding School (tm) is a favorite trope of mine.

So I know the idea is to portray Elves as *above* humans but preserving now extinct carnivorous species and training them to be vegetarians is the height of arrogance. By assuming you know better than the nature you're trying to "save". Also, humans have known most Dinosaurs had feathers for decades y'all.

And here's where the work shows it's age (50's) when it describes homosexuals as "perverts" as several members of the early Nazi party were and stating this as proof of their corruption and evil. Finally off the long ass tangent about the philosophical origins of the movement (which should.have been shortened idek what anyone says) and onto the nitty gritty of politics.

Not bad so far, but far too much time is being spent on explaining every origin (no matter how obscure) of Hitler and the Nazi's biased, incredibly ill researched philosophies and thoughts on race and history. There's enough here for a separate book entirely and if I was his editor I'd cut most of this and have him set aside for a separate piece.

I think perhaps this book is almost twenty years too late for me to get into. It's super hard to make paranornal romance work for me anymore as I overdosed on it in the early 2000's. I miss the days when Urban Fantasy wasn't dating PNR and was it's own beastie. Perhaps then this would work, sadly not now. Permanent dnf.
