A thorough history of Mars exploration and attempts at mapping from the earliest days of astronomy to our modern day Curiosity rover rolling over the long hills on the red planet. Thankfully the science is never impenetrable and obtusely dense as some scientists turned novelists are, it is interspersed with throughout bits of autobiography from the author. At times meandering but overall a great book. Review to come.
