I LOVE this book. I really want my husband to read it - not because I feel he "needs" it, but because their relationship is hilariously reminiscent of ours sometimes. The chapter about Adam & Mary killed me. "HARRY FUCKING POTTER!" LOL

Christopher Moore seems to be hit/miss with me - I like a book, the next is "meh," then I like another. I'm liking this one. Some of the little snarky bits of humor in it are too perfect. "Black Smoke Follows" for example... Pokey "dead" ... Coyote's first cash machine, etc. Love it.

I was on the fence with this right up till she debunked Kitty Genovese. I seem to automatically love people who do that...but shortly after, the segment on "9 tips for personal safety" is fan-freakin-tastic. Go you, for teaching women to not blindly accept that they are meant to be victims just because they're *women" and "vulnerable." LOVE it. I would take a class by her in a heartbeat.

Half in, half out - I get a little teeth-gritty over some elements of chick lit.
And this line sucked: "Best one (motorcycle) on the market for women." Folks foolishly designate bikes "for women" by low seat height & small engine size. What they want to say is "for beginners" not "for women." Height can be customized & engine size is not gender specific. The main character would be insulted by this.

Finally, in the homestretch!
Karenin has lost his @#$@.
You know... what I love most about this book is what I see least IN it - when he describes a setting or a place, it's fabulous...but he so rarely does it in favor of more philosophical things, political commentary or the narrative, that I feel like I've missed out.

Holy heck, I'm glad I didn't read this in high school, I barely made it through alive as it was. Interesting concept, but good lord, what a drag. SO glad I didn't watch the movie, hearing some of the scenes in audiobook is bad enough.

oh my god...this is already awesome. I love that he throws the traditional fantasy tropes out the window & makes his own magic system with things totally unique to it. this is what I loved about Mistborn!

Listening on a road trip with husband...given there are 5 8+ hour sections of the book, we're going to need to take a few trips to finish it. Damnit Patrick Rothfuss...hotel rooms and gas are pricey...this may be the most expensive book I ever own!

As a general fyi - I'm not moving through this slowly because I don't like it - but rather because I'm saving it for outdoor run sessions so I can enjoy it and suffer a bit less. Alas, the treadmill has kept me from my book the last couple runs. This is very sad - husband has finished it (loved it) and now knows all the spoilers. ACK.

On a side note, Scalzi's current profile pic is disturbing as hell. lol I imagine that was what was intended...but ewergh. Mission accomplished!

The book is great so far - a great mix of pace, wit, setting. Wil Wheaton just pushes it over the top. His narration is fantastic.

I've been really enjoying the audiobook narration of this (I LOVED Amy's narrator)...and then my loan time ran out & through other fussy obnoxiousness with Overdrive, now I can't get the renewal downloaded. AAAAGH. I just put the paper book on hold, but we'll see if I end up wanting to finish it in audio... in 20 days. :\

I'm reminded of this Tucker & Dale Quote: "There we were minding our own business . . . when kids started killing themselves all over my property!"

I'm loving this book, but it's going a bit too quick. I will say that in reading this and Nevada Barr's mysteries, I'm realizing I'm not too unhappy that my childhood daydream of being a Ranger went unpursued. lol
