love the idea of the book - it's a rainy day read I've been rationing out.

the book is half consumed, but not entirely digested. har har har

Feels a bit disjointed, but I'm getting a better grasp of Jerusalem and the weirdness that is the holy land...checkpoints...gaza.... conflicting cultures. It's lightly humorous, which is a relief. I loved the observation after watching people fight at the temple: "Thanks, God, for making me an athiest." It is true that religion & the practice OF faith don't seem to go together so well.

She has such a knack for wry wit, I love her writing. Although, with this book, my favorite guilty pleasure of reading while eating is absolutely off limits.

Hit miss - this is more a collection of essays, so you can skip around. Some of them interesting, some not so much.

so I'm getting the feeling Rex won't be leaping for tickets to the next rockstar collaborative benefit du jour...

Yes, I'm reading it. I'm probably destined to like it, now that I've mercilessly mocked this book for ages.

Another glimpse into life in Iran. I've had absolutely no clue about Iran or its history. This is wonderfully done!

Good! I don't have to buy expensive wine to pick good wine! Thank god. And where, oh where, is our old pal Rebel to appreciate the thumbs up to Budweiser?!

It starts out with a punch right to the gut. I can honestly never say I've read a book that had me crying in the first 50 pages. Sheesh... :(

So far this is beautiful and thoughtfully done. It is also heartbreaking. A glimpse into a culture of which we've so little understanding.
I see it as a beautiful illustration of our similarities across the human race; the majority of people in the world are just trying to survive and get by and live a normal life - whatever context they're born into & regardless of stereotypes we use to trivialize each other.

Bit by bit I'm working my way through. Pick up the book, read a bit, fall asleep... read during lunch breaks, etc.

On a side note: this book is chock full of melodramatic characters.

Beautiful illustrations on the chapter headings. Love the style of Dream - he reminds me of a more tattered Amon (Witch Hunter Robin anime).

Oh god - I picked it up at the library, read a snippet and snorted out loud. It's hilarious & completely inappropriate, but also wonderfully, brutally honest.

Well, whatsherface's rant was something to behold - I highlighted most of it so I could come back to it later. The overall scam scenes confused the heck out of me - the gist I got: they tried to pull one over on him, he was ahead of them, but sympathetic and apologetic anyway. Anger and guilt are laid around like crazy and he still apologizes...which makes more people angry. *confused*

I bought the ebook version as well. I like it that much. Please, get translating the authors' other work so we can have more!

This is going to take me a year to finish. I sit down and read at night and get a page before I fall asleep. I like it, but because I own it, it is lower on the priority list and suffers.

This is one of those audiobooks I want to just keep going...and going...and going... and I'm burning through it way too fast!!

This audiobook is generating a lot of reactions from me - snorts of laughter, eye rolling, "omg" and "seriously"? Hope it keeps up in this vein, it's highly entertaining. I wouldn't say it's comedy, but early on it has comedic moments.

Meant to pick up another book and read it but I started reading the first few lines "just to see" and got hooked.
