Much improvement on writing, grammar, etc. in book 2...no more haphazard switches from 1st to 3rd person!
It's still rough around the edges, but I like the story. Some scenes and ideas feel like they need to be - not so much fleshed out - but debugged/polished up.

I'm doing a lot of flipping around. The idea of the book is noble, the execution is convoluted. We all have our own "mean girl" experience - I was interested more in seeing what to do about it (but this is common sense, really: be kind to each other), vs. reading hundreds of anecdotes.

Really liking this...and realizing I can't write what I like at this point because it's chock full o'spoilers.

This falls under the "don't judge a book by it's cover" category - it looked like paranormal lit. I'd forgotten all about where I'd heard of it (webinar) and why. So it's a bit different than I thought, but ...actually better, since I'm a bit burned out on paranormal at the moment.

I love this book. It has pretty dark humor, but it is just awesome. Hilarious: "Pole Vaulting over Mouse Turds"

Gritty & funny in a brutally honest, painfully awkward sort of way. Conflicting between traumatizing and hilarious.

Scott Brick narrates -this is one of his better narrations, though the overdrive edition is not the best quality. Interesting story.

Thought I was further in the last update - not quite!
Never thought I'd find an assisted suicide scene comical... of course the narration brought a little Forrest Gump to the "My Momma Always Said" moment...which unfortunately cracked me up. Sorry buddy. RIP future unfortunate vampire soldier guy...

Some great twists on classic fairy tales. A mix of dark and comedic - loved the Seven Dwarves. Fans of Neil Gaiman would enjoy this.

I so hope the audiobook of this is narrated by Jim Dale...it'd be a perfect fit.

Took a turn around the 16 year old mark. The darker side of the family relationships are coming up, and the angst/adolescence phase. I can see why people buy into the dream of scrapping it all and living on a boat - but the second half seems like it'll be good for perspective of the downside.

Babcock = The Walkin Man (in Vegas, no less)
Amy = Mother Abigail

I imagine (hope) the next two will veer much further from The Stand parallel.

Reading the Galley Copy. I'm kind of confused how I got approved for the galley copy when it's already published!
That said - love it. It'd be the perfect book for mid-winter blahs, read with a pina colada and some Jimmy Buffet playing in the background.

The Stand/Walking Dead with vampires. I know I keep saying it, but that's because I keep THINKING it while I'm listening.

"the idiot" seems to indicate his mental decline. It seems to me more that he sees people for what they are, and chooses to act on what he feels is good/right. It would seem idiotic on the outside, I suppose, but then a lot of "do-gooders" often come across as naive/foolish.
