so tired that I fell asleep trying to read the last page of book one..over and over again!

love love love this book. worth savoring.

um...the smeagle voice for the squirrel is a bit much...

Not sure how I feel about this one. While she's exposing backwards behaviors and small minded thinking, she's also perpetuating stereotypes like crazy. Anna's personality is more and more irritating. It feels like it would take an act of God to get through her shell, and so it's lucky for us, I suppose, that her "boyfriend" is a pastor. Because...who better, at this point?

Hit/Miss on the stories, so far. Not quite "the best of the best" as far as my reaction goes..

much lighter read than D's "The Idiot"

ooeey gooey gruesome! Definitely not the graphic novel to pick up with a slice of pizza in hand, or a hamburger...or chicken...or anything even slightly greenish...

I hate to say I want pictures, because the writing is good enough not to *need* pictures, but the places he's writing about sound so interesting that I *really want pictures.*

Ok these are just plain fun. The cop scene made me burst out laughing. I was trying to run at the time, so breathing at the same time kind of sucked. Still...worth it.

Must take a time out and just enjoy this - its been getting the backseat on book priorities lately.

I hope her "I know it all, and made my judgements" attitude gets an adjustment along the way..

lol 6 chapters in and it's only 2% into the book... this will be another 6 month long journey, but so far I'm enjoying it.

And...you cheat on your wife and your response is to smile like an idiot when she calls you out. Priceless! I love it.

love the dog... the narrator makes him hilarious.

probably shouldn't have started this before I went to bed. I was dreaming in comic panel form about North Korea all night. :(

Having a hard time getting over the Desperate Housewives vibe.

I have mixed feelings on this one. The alpha wolf dynamic comes across as thinly (if at all) veiled dominant/submissive lit and the character, being a submissive female, is pretty beat up on. She seems plucky enough that I think in future books she'll dig her way out. That said, the elements of dominant/submissive behavior I think are a bit misinterpreted here.

Love the differentiation between shame, guilt and humiliation. This is fantastic. I wish this had come out as a unisex book vs. directed towards women, but she is working on one directed towards men, as well. Even if you do not struggle with "shame" issues, I think this is one of those books everyone should read, as it lends insight into the human condition in general.

Had a bit of a whiskey tango foxtrot moment when we suddenly jumped from the story to an analysis of Gogol's work... it ties back in but holy cow, Fyodor, use your signal before you make a turn!

I somehow completely missed the book description when I picked up the galley and started reading. I thought it was YA...oh it is so not YA!
