I got a slew of these free Christmas-themed romances to review. Even as fast as I read, I couldn't get through all of them during the holiday period. Plus these damn holiday romances are mostly novellas which is driving my Goodreads reading challenge to ridiculous heights.

I got this novella with a bunch of others during the Christmas season. I expected this one to be as bad as others of similar theme that I have read. I admit that I started reading this book holding my nose - so far this one is the best of the lot, but that is not saying much.

I got a bunch of romance novellas for free around Christmas, so I am wading through them. I am rejecting the ones I do not like.

Started slow, and if all I had to decide whether or not to buy this book was the Amazon "look inside" excerpt - I never would have touched this book. If one of my fav authors (MSE) had not recommended this book, I probably never would have touched it.

I started reading this book holding my nose. If MSE had not recommended it, I would not have touched it. I hope it improves, but it's not the worst e-book I have blown a few bucks on so far.

This is a decent trilogy. It could have been one decent sized book, but the author followed the tired Kindle method of splitting her book into 3 (or more) parts and then selling each part for more than if you sold 1 book. Works if you are a decent writer and for the readers who like your work enough to buy all 3 parts. This is the first that I bothered getting all 3 parts as I cared enough to find out what happens.

Is it me or are the Valens books getting shorter?

I usually don't read MMF erotica, but since I got two in my email for free - what the hell. I admit that I was holding my nose when I started reading this novella.

Very tortuous to get through this book. Some seriously messed up characters, with dark undertones of rape, non-consensual sex, and blackmail.

Little break from the SciFi and Urban Fantasy. Try to clear some of the romance books that clog up my inbox. This one is tortuous - too much drama and angst for my likes.

Surprising good series. Author knows his guns and equipment. Enough gear to keep the armchair-super-secret-squirrels and gear geeks happy without bogging the story down. Looks like I am going to binge read this series.

These Daniel Black surprise me every time.

Wow some twists at the end of book #2 that I did not expect.

It is a rare author that can write both sides of a 100 year long war well. I like that neither side is portrayed as all good or all bad. No Star Wars, Star Trek or other such pure romantic BS here.

It is a rare author that can write objectively from both sides of a war. Since most of this series has focused on the Alliance side, it is neat to see the other side of the war, the Syndicates.
