I needed to get some lightweights under my belt, because I plan on tackling War & Peace before the year's out.
Christina wrote: "You're doing better than I am, dude. I'm gonna have to plow through a bunch of novellas."Read a few picture books and you'll be back on top! :)
Wish my status was at 93/100. Can we exchange? :DPlease suggest to me ALL the shortest books you have read. LOL!!

It's all about the kids books, lol! I've got a niece and we read together sometimes when she comes for a visit, and then I add those books to me "read" list. It's shameless of me, I know...
Melki wrote: "Now you can concentrate on getting YOUR book out there."I'm just happy to have finished that 100th book, Middlemarch, which sadly turned out to be a dud for me.
Isn't it great to read books with youngun's? The last time I did that was with my daughter - I think we took turns - I read about 2/3's of it aloud. Eleanor of Aquitaine - a fine juvenile history. I suppose there are "better" histories of her but I liked that one just fine. I can't as yet comment on Elmore in the Crime Fiction genre, but heartily recommend (again) Lee Child's Reacher novels.
Jack Reacher is an eccentric. An ex-military-policeman (Army) with superior detective skills.
If Sherlock Holmes had a US Marine for a dad, was 6-6, 250-pounds, fought dirty, with world-class skills with rifles and pistols, he'd BE Reacher - though he'd still lose a fight vs. Reacher and might not first solve the crime.
I've read 16.7 of his 18 novels and have not yet detected a "formula". All of them have a mystery aspect - which may slow you down if you're wont to solve them (I'm not).
Anyway, you might consider a clump of them for the next Challenge. I especially liked:
Killing Floor (his first, which has a tie-in with his only sibling)
Tripwire (which develops a long-standing forbidden love-interest and Reacher's non-conventional lifstyle wrapped up with a particularly nasty villain)
One Shot (the first to be adapted for film – a tricky mystery)
The Enemy (develops Reacher’s back story as a still-active-duty MP)
The Affair (the earliest with Reacher as an adult)
The Affair has a bonus short story (in the pocket paper version) – Second Son with Reacher at age 13 with his Marine dad and Madame Reacher his French mother. This latter is a low-cost (time and money) way to get the flavor of Child’s style.
Of course I’d be fascinated to see some of your reviews of any of these.

congrats on reaching your reading goal. Anyone who reads over 100 new books in a year is doing something.
Stephen wrote: "congrats on reaching your reading goal. Anyone who reads over 100 new books in a year is doing something."Well, quite a few were lightweight: kids' books I read with my niece and a few Choose Your Own Adventures I read for old time's sake. But thank you nonetheless!
Jason, if you exclude the Choose Your Own Adventure, D&D, Curious George and other kids books, and the NY City Map Guide, you've only read like 20 books this year! We're going to have to put an asterisk next to your total!

We're going to have to put an ast..."Lol, I was definitely juicing this year! My stats will probably get thrown out of the record books. But in my defense, my original challenge this year was 52 books. I kept upping it, especially once I started reading the CYOAs and the kids' books with my niece.
Nope kids books need rated too! I think it absolutely counts, especially if you are sharing the experience with a kid! I bet your niece loved you reading with her!

I probably wouldn't have bothered including some of the kids books as "read", except that I've reviewed them with my niece, so they automatically appear in my yearly total.
