If I don't count children's books or individual short stories, then I've actually only read 63 books. I've DNF'd 5 books so far, so I still have 12 books to go!
I've reached 76 books, not including children's books or individual short stories! I feel...surprised, hahaha! I confess that reading plays, short story collections and shorter books (including chap books and flash fiction novellas) have helped me reach this goal. Regardless of of the length of the books I've been reading, I've really enjoyed a lot of what I've read so far this year! I'm having a GREAT reading year :) How are you doing with your goal?
My reading goals for 2020 are as follows: Every month, read one work from ALL the following categories:
i. Classic [7 completed, 5 left]
ii. Play [9 completed, 3 left]
iii. Short Story/Collection [Challenge completed]
iv. Nonfiction [Challenge completed]
v. Translation [7 completed, 5 left]
vi. Poem/Collection [6 completed, 6 left]
vii. Reread [6 completed, 6 left]
viii. Fiction (written by a "new-to-me" author) [Challenge completed]
ix. Book Club Pick [6 completed, 6 left]

(147 books read)
I ONLY have to read one more classic (and two of my book club books) in order to finish my reading goals for 2020! What an incredible journey this has been. My biggest takeaways are:1. I love poetry, short stories, plays and nonfiction, so I need to prioritize reading them in the future;
2. audiobooks are my preferred method of reading nonfiction;
3. I like but don't love classics, especially those written by men prior to the the 20th century. I appreciate their importance in history and literary history, but I don't think that I will continue to push myself to read them unless I really want to read a specific author or text;
4. I thought I loved translated fiction more than I do. I think it's important to read translated fiction, so I'll keep trying to read more from this category. However, I'm not going to prioritize it.
5. I thought I loved fiction more than I do. The only two fiction books that I gave 5 stars to were Home by Toni Morrison and My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.
I hope you had a wonderful reading year!

If I don't count children's books, then I'm at 40 books total (53%) which isn't too shabby :)
