D.G. | 4477 comments Elizabeth,

I see you're relatively new to Goodreads so I'm not sure how up to date are your shelves with books you've read or are planning to read. So I tried to recommend a mix of known books in certain genres with a few more obscure ones. Except from the books I found in your TBR (marked with an asterisk), I've read all the books I recommended and enjoyed them all. If it turns out you've read most of them, let me know and I can give you new recs!

1. Superman: Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder OR Angelfall by Susan Ee - two new genres I didn't see on your shelves (fantasy and post apocalyptic).

2. Green Lantern: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead OR Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin* - Two books from authors you've read in the past and enjoyed.

3. Batman: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon OR Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen - I haven't read any of the books in your TBR so I'm just recommending you two books I've loved!

4. Wolverine: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (animals) OR Dark Lover by J.R. Ward (hero over 40). I'm not into car racing but I still remember some maxims I learned in the first book. The second book is a famous paranormal romance and as soon as I saw you didn't have it your shelves, I know I had to recommend it.

5. The Hulk: The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel OR Cry No More by Linda Howard - both really emotional books.

6. Wonder Woman: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs OR Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning (kick-ass heroines) - Mercy (from Moon Called) is one of my favorite heroines ever. Mac (from Darkfever) is not kick ass in this book but she really becomes stronger as the series progresses.

7. Thor: Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard* OR Wicked Ties by Shayla Black - The first book is from your TBR; the second is a erotic BDSM, which I recommended as I saw you liked Fifty Shades. This book is VERY explicit though. :)

BUDDY READS: I'll be travelling for most of August so I cannot do any of the buddy reads.

8. Spider-man: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith* OR On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves (want to read) OR Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I don't live very far from 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn' was written (NOT in Brooklyn, LOL!) so I've always wanted to read it. In fact, I'm adding it to my TBR now! The second book is just a book I want to read, period. It's gotten great reviews so I'm looking forward to reading it. The third book I already read but it's awesome science fiction with a definite geek as the lead.

9. Captain America: A Summer to Remember by Mary Balogh (historical) OR Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles OR Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye (feel good romance). Awesome, awesome books, really romantic.

Touch of Power (Healer, #1) by Maria V. Snyder Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel Cry No More by Linda Howard
Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Gabriel's Inferno (Gabriel's Inferno, #1) by Sylvain Reynard Wicked Ties (Wicked Lovers, #1) by Shayla Black A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves Ready Player One by Ernest Cline A Summer to Remember by Mary Balogh Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye

message 108: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Ashley I enjoyed browsing through your shelves and hope you enjoy your picks. As always, I had trouble limiting myself to just 1 per category, so you have a few extra options.

1. Superman
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is considered a romance classic.
Grimspace by Ann Aguirre is the first book in the Sirantha Jax series. I found urban fantasies and paranormals on your shelves, but I didn't see much in the way of sci-fi. Grimspace would be a great place to start.

2. Green Lantern>
Diabolical by Cynthia Leitich Smith is the fourth book in a series you've started.
Heaven and Hell by Kristen Ashley, #5 on your "Most Read Authors" list

3. Batman
The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley is one of my favorite historicals. Thought strange at best (and mad at worst) by most of society, Ian makes an unconventional hero. His brilliance is often misunderstood by his own family. To tell you how much I loved this book, I went out and bought it almost as soon as I returned the library's copy.
The Lion's Lady by Judy Garwood. Garwood's historicals are on my comfort-read list. When I saw this on your TBR, I knew I had to recommend it.

4. Wolverine
Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane. Chess Putnam has drug addictions, low self-esteem and intimacy issues. Definitely not your standard hero. But somehow, even when I want to yell over her bad behavior of the moment, I still find myself rooting for her.
Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan. This looks interesting and I couldn't resist adding it to my shelves when I found it on yours.

5. The Hulk
Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale. Intense and emotional are definitely the right words for this book. One of Kinsale's best, IMO.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is another book that drew an emotional response from me.

6. Wonder Woman
Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch. From the moment Kitty sees her first alien monster and goes on the attack, I loved this book. Her odd sense of humor really appeals to me and the remaining cast of characters are wonderfully unique.
Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep definitely features a strong female. Gin is an assassin in a universe with elementals, vampires and giants. I recently read book 6 and will definitely be buying book 7 when it comes out in late August.

7. Thor
Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran. The picture says it all. ;D Though I haven't read anything by Duran yet, I have more than a few books marked for my shelves. If you decide to read it, definitely let me know what you think.
Skin Game (Skin, #1) by Ava Gray Skin Game by Ava Gray features an interesting couple. Kyra can temporarily "steal" your best skill with a touch and Reyes has been sent to hunt her down.

BUDDY READS
Just let me know if you want to do a buddy read, a couple of these will require a trip to the library.

8. Spider-man
Graceling by Kristin Cashore. I really tried to read this in July, but didn't quite make it.
Mum's the Word by Kate Collins. I haven't read any of her mysteries, but this looks interesting.

9. Captain America
Noble Intentions by Katie MacAlister. I've really enjoyed her various Dragon series, so this historical romance might be worth reading.
The Next Always by Nora Roberts is the first book in a new romance series I've been wanting to read.

Tania | 644 comments Hi Lethal Lovely

I had a great time going through your shelves. I hope you find something here that you can enjoy reading this month.

Superman
You don't have much sci-fi(ish) in your read shelves that I can see. I'd recommend trying Grimspace by Ann Aguirre.

Green Lantern
So many choices here... after a long and strongly debated argument with myself I decided on Firewalker by Allyson James

Batman
I had to go with Ill Wind by Rachel Caine for this one. I love the lead character - she's smart and quirky and picked up a hitchhiker that in my mind looks like Ewan McGregor (nerdy hot).

Wolverine
Huh .. sorry... got distracted by memories of Hugh Jackman without a shirt on... My distraction is the reason I figure I can get away with recommending About a Dragon by G.A. Aiken. Dragon's are animals aren't they :)

The Hulk
So I recently forced myself to try to read the 50 Shades series for book club. It was awful. Soooo much wrong with it it's hard to describe. When talking about it in book club I kept wanting to refer to The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton. It was an incredibly emotional read for me and I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Wonder Woman
I'm dying to read the latest in the Ghostwalker series and from everything I've heard Thorn is a kick ass heroine. Jump into Samurai Game by Christine Feehan and see what you think.

Thor
Sweet Addiction by Maya Banks. Enough said :D

Buddy Reads
I'm up for reading either of these two so let me know if you want to do a buddy read (by PM if you decided during the month I don't check the challenge thread very often).

Spider-Man
Rampant by Saskia Walker looks amazing. Hot Scottish Guy(s)... bring it on.

Captain America
I did want to suggest Captive Bride by Bonnie Dee but I'm on a book-buying ban this month and I don't think my local library is going to have it. So instead I'm going with To Wed a Scandalous Spy by Celeste Bradley who is a new author to me and has been sitting on my shelf for far too long...

Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre Firewalker (Stormwalker, #2) by Allyson James Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine About a Dragon (Dragon Kin, #2) by G.A. Aiken The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton Samurai Game (Ghostwalkers #10) by Christine Feehan Sweet Addiction (Sweet, #6) by Maya Banks Rampant by Saskia Walker To Wed a Scandalous Spy (Royal Four, #1) by Celeste Bradley

It looks like you and I have the same tastes in books so it made it easy for me to pick for you! I hope you like my picks.

Naked in Death. It is a great series.

3. Batman:Gideon. This series have all brooding hunky men! I love it!

6. Wonder Woman: Angels' Blood. This one is about a vampire hunter.

Ok so there you go. Let me know when you want to do the buddy reads I am pretty flexible. I hope you like your picks. If not let me know and I will repick for you.

message 114: by Pam (new)

Pam | 1048 comments Hi Amy J-
I love going through extensive TBR lists--here's what I've chosen

1. Superman: You have lots of classics on your TBR. Try either Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell or Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier . It's been years since I read either one but I used to reread GWTW on a regular basis. Rhett Butler...sigh

2. Green Lantern: Next in a series A Red Herring Without Mustard (Flavia de Luce, #3) by Alan Bradley or from someone you've read before
Claimed (Brides of the Kindred, #1) by Evangeline Anderson

3. Batman: Books from your TBR that I've loved Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen or Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost (This is also the author of the month so it could be a two-fer)

4. Wolverine: M Is for Magic by Neil Gaiman or Holy Smokes (Aisling Grey Guardian, #4) by Katie MacAlister or The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Mary Russell, #1) by Laurie R. King

5. The Hulk: All from the YA shelf If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman I just read this book this month. I like the second one better but they do need to be read in order. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness I wept during this book...over and over. The Adoration of Jenna Fox (Jenna Fox Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson This was recommended to me in a previous PIFM and it remains one of my favorites. Very thought provoking.

6. Wonder Woman: My favorite three kick ass female leads Kate Andrews Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews you read the first, they only get better. The new one comes out Tuesday and I can't wait! Mercedes Thompson Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs another case where you have read the first and they only get better. Eve Dallas Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb The first in a long series from your TBR. Worth a look. Finally A Cold Day For Murder (Kate Shugak, #1) by Dana Stabenow This is the first in my favorite mystery series ever. This isn't Stabenow's best but they really do get better and Kate Shugak personifies kickass.

7. Thor: Steamy Afterglow (Lodestone, #2) by Cherry Adair Steamier No Place to Run (KGI, #2) by Maya Banks Steamiest The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton

BUDDY READS:

8. Spider-man: The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting or Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill or The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1) by Kelley Armstrong or Claimed (Brides of the Kindred, #1) by Evangeline Anderson mentioned above

9. Captain America: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins or Truly, Madly (Lucy Valentine, #1) by Heather Webber

I'm good for a buddy read this month. Hope something here works!

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments Kami,

I had fun going through your bookshelves and I hope you find something intriguing in these picks.

1. Superman - A few choices here as I'm not much of a classics reader. One classic - East of Eden by John Steinbeck. The woman is pure evil, in a soap-operish way. One new genre - The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. Very different writing style as PI Izzy tells the story of her life and her very strange PI family. And one book where the hero was the basis for Superman (and boy did he get in trouble) - Simply Irresistible by Kristine Grayson. You don't need to read the first trilogy first.

2. Green Lantern - The next In Death book is calling you - Witness in Death by J.D. Robb.

3. Batman - We've got a quirky brainy hero in High Energy by Dara Joy or you can check out Dark Descendant by Jenna Black which I read recently and really enjoyed (and will be starting the sequel soon).

4. Wolverine - Ok, I've got the perfect book. It has an anti-hero over 40 and a dog - Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie. Lots of quirky characters and a sweet romance takes place while the bodies pile up. A hitman is asked to protect a food columnist who is a bit too fond of frying pans.

5. The Hulk - I'm not big on emotional/tear-jerker kind of books, so this was a bit harder. Fantasy genre tends to be intense though so here are a couple suggestions. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder, when the heroine is being trained as a poison taster (really interesting), you know there will be some intense emotions. The Mirror of Her Dreams by Stephen R. Donaldson, the heroine is practically shut-off from her emotions before being taken through a mirror to another world. FYI - this is book 1 of a duology.

6. Wonder Woman - Gin in Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep is very strong as she hunts down her mentor's killer.

7. Thor - as long as you get the newer cover Amaryllis by Jayne Castle fits the bill. This takes place on a world we settled and didn't expect to be cut off from. The population gained psychic powers over the generations, but they are split as the people with powers need a person with a prism to help them focus it. Or there is Storm of Visions by Christina Dodd. A group of people with powers are coming together to save the world.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck The Spellman Files (The Spellmans #1) by Lisa Lutz Simply Irresistible (Fates #4) by Kristine Grayson Witness in Death (In Death, #10) by J.D. Robb Dark Descendant (Nikki Glass, #1) by Jenna Black High Energy (Tyber and Zanita, #1) by Dara Joy Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder The Mirror of Her Dreams (Mordant's Need, #1) by Stephen R. Donaldson Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep Amaryllis (St. Helen's, #1) by Jayne Castle Storm of Visions (The Chosen Ones, #1) by Christina Dodd

Buddy Reads
8. Spider-Man - I was thrilled to see Redshirts by John Scalzi on your TBR as I just bought it and it looks like it will be a fun read.

9. Captain America - One historical - Warrior by Zoe Archer, I've heard it is kind of like an Indiana Jones movie. Or a feel good romance - Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie is one of my all-time favorite books that I'm about due to re-read. A sweet story about two insecure people growing and learning to love after a rocky start and taking their friends along for the ride. Since it is by Crusie, there are plenty of quirky characters. Do not read while hungry as you will be craving Italian food.

Redshirts by John Scalzi Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Hello, Joyce!
I enjoyed browsing your shelves. Hope you find something you like on this list!

1. Superman: You have many genres on your shelves, but I didn't see much Epic Fantasy or Historical Romance, so I am recommending
A Game of Thrones and When Beauty Tamed the Beast. For classics, two excellent books are The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird.

2. Green Lantern: This was easy since you have lots of series you are working on.
From Dead to Worse
Burnt Offerings
Changeless

3. Batman: The Girl Who Played With Fire
Succubus Blues

4. Wolverine:
Drums of Autumn
A Hunger Like No Other

5. The Hulk:
Lover Awakened
Firefly Lane
Angela's Ashes

6. Wonder Woman:
One Foot in the Grave
Frostbite
The Hunger Games (this one would also work for emotional/intense!)

7. Thor:
Black Magic Lover
Eternal Rider
The Truth about Vampires (Harlequin Nocturne, #107)

BUDDY READS:

8. Spider-man: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I own this and can start any time.

9. Captain America: The Corset Diaries I've never read this author and wouldn't mind trying her.

message 127: by Cacophony (new)

Cacophony | 102 comments Hi Amanda!
It looks like we both share a love for contemporary romance. Your to be read shelf is kind of small, which is a blessing and a curse for me since it makes choosing faster but more difficult since I have only read a few of the books on your to be read shelf. I had to reccomend a couple books that I haven't personally read, but most of these books I have read and enjoyed, so I hope one of them will work out for you.

1. Superman: A Hunger Like no Other or Lover Awakened by JR Ward Both of these are great corner stones of the paranormal romance genre.

2. Green Lantern: Why not read the next Virgin River Book. Looks like Promise Canyon by Robin Carr is the next book for you to read in this series.

3. Batman: Heaven Texas by Susan Elizabeth Phillips It looks like you have read a book from this series before. Try this one next, it is great.

4. Wolverine: Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis I have not read this book, but it looked interesting.

5. The Hulk: The Gambler's Heart by Gayle Wilson This is kind of an obscure book, but it is the most emotionally intense book I have ever read.

6. Wonder Woman: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs The first in a series that I just love beyond words. I can't recommend it highly enough.

7. Thor: Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare This is technically the third in a series but I read it first and followed the story just fine.

BUDDY READS:

Please Note:

8. Spider-man: Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl

9. Captain America: Simple Jess by Pamela Morisi

message 136: by Mimmy (new)

Mimmy (roxym) | 208 comments Picks for Rachel-Goodbye Borders:

1. Superman: I interpreted classics a bit loosely. From your TBR: A Kiss at Midnight (Fairy Tales #1) or When Beauty Tamed the Beast, both by Eloisa James and suggestive of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Or Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

2. Green Lantern: Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways #3) by Lisa Kleypas.

3. Batman: Naked (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb. Megan L suggested this to me in April's PIFM. I have become obsessed with this series. Perhaps Eve Dallas is not the brainiest heroine, but she's methodical and always solves her cases!

4. Wolverine: I see that you emjoyed Shelly Laurenston's Magnus Pack series so what about The Mane Event?

5. Hulk: Fifty Shades of Grey or Bared to You. Everyone seems to have an emotional reaction to these books. I've read both and liked both, although I don't read enough in this genre to have an informed opinion.

6. Wonder Woman: Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost (I adore Cat) or Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill.

7. Thor: When You Dare by Lori Foster

Buddy Reads:

8. Spiderman : Soulless (Parasol Protectorate #1)

9. Captain America : The Soldier or Tempt Me at Twilight

Let me know if you want to do the buddy read!

5. The Hulk: Poison Study, Gabriel's Inferno
