D.G. | 4477 comments Have you all through here. :)

Bad news...my meeting has been postponed to start at 10pm, so most likely it will end after 4pm. Then it may take me an hour or so to add in any new people that signed in the time I've been in the meeting plus doing the randomizing. So unless a miracle happens, I wouldn't expect the pairings to be up before 7pm.

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Really D.G.??? You're putting work ahead of PIFM maddness? Work, schmerk. Who needs a paycheck? ;-)

message 104: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments LOL, Penney!

I was able to bring my laptop to the meeting and I thought I would sneak a peek here and there but then, the CEO and the CFO are sitting right behind me! So I can only log in when they're not around. :(

My meeting actually ended at 4pm and because we didn't have many signups during the day, I should be posting the pairings shortly (I'm just double checking to make sure I'm not missing anything.)

message 112: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments PAIRINGS ARE UP!!

At the end, we had 40 chickens, 37 eggs and 5 'others' (these were people where the answer wasn't so clear :)) I put 4 of the others in Team Egg, and the last other (Jim) in Team Chicken so we are even with 41 participants in each group. :)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments FOR ~Megan~

Which might be a little confusing since there are so many Megans.

PICKING RULES: MARCH MADNESS

In the US, March Madness refers to a college basketball tournament which each weekend cuts three-fourths of the teams, from a Round of 64, to a "Sweet Sixteen", to a "Final Four".

You must give your pickee at least 2 selections from their TBR and 2 that are completely new to them.

1. Mad as a March hare: Book with an original premise, a funky title or set in Canada

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles #1) by Kady Cross

2. Non Compos Mentis: Book with a plot that deals with the law, religion or magic

Always a Witch (Witch #2) by Carolyn MacCullough

3.(Not So) Sweet 16: Book published at least 16 years ago, with an alpha male or with a main character that's over 40.

Bloodlist (Vampire Files #1) by P.N. Elrod

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: Go to your GR recommendations and find a book that you think your pickee would enjoy but that you've never heard about before.

Gilt (The Royal Circle #1) by Katherine Longshore or

For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund or

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo

5. Elite 8: Book with a sports theme (go Eli!) or a best seller/super popular book

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: Recommend a book from a genre your pickee wouldn't usually read, a book you thought you wouldn't like that you ended up enjoying or a funny/light read.

Nerd in Shining Armor (Nerds, #1)by Vicki Lewis Thompson

7. Final 4: Post apocalyptic book, latest book published by one of your pickee's favorite authors, book published on a leap year

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: Go to your pickee's TBR, go to a page at random, and pick the first book that caught your fancy (no thinking!) If by any chance that book is #19 in a series which your pickee hasn't started, pick another page and try again.

Grave Witch (Alex Craft #1) by Kalayna Price

9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg?

If you are from Team Chicken {c}, recommend a standalone you think both of you would like to read.

If you are from Team Egg (e), recommend a 1st in a series that you'd both like to read.

Fallen (Fallen #1) by Lauren Kate or

The Hollow (The Hollow #1) by Jessica Verday

I would be interested in reading either one. Let me know if you want to do a buddy read.

Please Note: The buddy read recommendation is NOT optional. If you cannot do the buddy read, you must still recommend this, just let the person you are picking from that you won't be able to do read them with them.

You do pick a buddy read. But you say whether or not you want to read it. "If you are from Team Egg (e), recommend a 1st in a series that you'd both like to read."

For the buddy read, team egg needs to pick a first in a series that you think we both would want to read. The rest sounds good!

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments D.G.~Shameless Hussy~

Okay, I have your recs and they are a mixed-bag of books, so I'm hoping that you will find something that will appeal to you.

1. MAD AS A MARCH HARE
For this category, I chose two books from the same author: Eve Langlais.
C791 - Haven't read this one but thought the premise is pretty original. I mean, c'mon, cyborg soldiers as heroes. Hmmm...sounds yummy.
Delicate Freakn' Flower - I read this one and I thought it was funny and hot, plus I found the title quirky. It's set in Canada too. (Warning: this is a menage book)

2. NON COMPOS MENTIS
Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson - I'm not a big fantasy reader, but I love this series. Epic in scale, Elly and Rain's romance will capture your heart. Definitely has all the components of law, religion and magic in it.

3. (NOT SO) SWEET 16
Twins by Katherine Stone - I'm recommending a pretty obscure book written in 1989. I read this when I was in my teens and I adored it. My copy is still around, tattered but loved.

4. THE LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT NOBODY'S HOME
The Dom Who Loved Me by Lexi Blake - I don't know what it tells about my reading when 90% of the books on the first page of my recommendation's page are BDSM-related. Hmmm.... Anyway, this looks intriguing, so I chose it.

5. ELITE 8
Causing Havoc by Lori Foster - Welcome to Foster's world of SBC fighters. I think the book is sweet, funny and highly readable.

6. NUTTY AS A FRUITCAKE
Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie - This book is filled with crazy characters: a dirty-talking mayor, a questionable porn film, a murder where everybody has motives, and the quirkiest group of people in one town. Definitely nutty. : )

7. FINAL 4
Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O'Brien - Though this written a while back, I think its slightly disturbing and worth reading.

8. NEITHER RHYME NOR REASON
On the Edge by Ilona Andrews - Found this little gem on your TBR shelf. Read it and enjoy. I did.

9. TEAM CHICKEN - STAND ALONE BOOK
Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - Just got a copy of this recently, and thought it looks interesting.

Well, there you go. Hope something in the list will interest you.

Happy reading!

Furthermore, great rules! Thanks for hosting. : )

message 126: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mandypants) Coffeentea,
I may have gone overboard with some of my picks. We have 85% similarity rating. That’s pretty good. Hope you can find something to read. Enjoy!

1. Mad as a March hare: The Iron Duke or Soulless- Both of these are steampunk flavored. Soulless has paranormal elements like werewolves, vampires, and ghosts. It’s hilariously campy.

2. Non Compos Mentis: Darkfever- This has magic in it. The first one isn’t so great and the heroine’s annoying; however, the series gets so much better if you stick with it.

3. (Not So) Sweet 16: Born of Night or The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: The Iron Hunt or Don't Tell

5. Elite 8: It Had to Be You or Flat-Out Sexy- I know absolutely nothing about sports. Is NASCAR a sport? Yes or no, we’re going to pretend like it is.

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: Mine Till Midnight- This meets the last two qualifications. I didn’t think I’d like this series as much as I did and it’s a light read. There is a bit of the supernatural in this first book with a ghostly element.

7. Final 4: The Forest of Hands and Teeth, The Handmaid's Tale, or The Darkest Surrender

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: Bet Me

9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg? Boneshaker and/or A Rogue By Any Other Name

The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide, #1) by Douglas Adams The Iron Hunt (Hunter Kiss, #1) by Marjorie M. Liu Don't Tell (Romantic Suspense #1) by Karen Rose It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Flat-Out Sexy (Fast Track, #1) by Erin McCarthy Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, #1) by Lisa Kleypas The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood The Darkest Surrender (Lords of the Underworld, #8) by Gena Showalter Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie Boneshaker (The Clockwork Century, #1) by Cherie Priest A Rogue By Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels, #1) by Sarah MacLean

7. Final 4: V for Vendetta by Alan Moore

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: A Rogue By Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean

9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg?
If you are from Team Chicken {c}, recommend a standalone you think both of you would like to read.

A Novel Seduction by Gwyn Cready

Chasing Clovers by Kat Flannery Spell Bound (Hex Hall, #3) by Rachel Hawkins Dreaming of You (Gamblers, #2) by Lisa Kleypas
His Darkest Hunger (Jaguar Warriors, #1) by Juliana Stone Simply Irresistible (Chinooks Hockey Team, #1) by Rachel Gibson All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins V for Vendetta by Alan Moore A Rogue By Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels, #1) by Sarah MacLean A Novel Seduction by Gwyn Cready

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Cheryl!

We had a good amount in common, I hope you find something here you like :)

1. Mad as a March Hare- Into the Wild Nerd Yonder - loved the characters in this YA, I wanted to be friends with Jessie.
Totally Tubular- 80's time-travel, fun, with a lot of heart.
Hunger- interesting twist on the Riders of the Apocalypse.

2. Non Compos Mentis: Pleasure and Purpose-sexy historical about handmaidens who make serving others' needs their life work.
Hex Hall, Magic and Mayhem- one a YA and one a sexy anthology dealing with magic.

3. (Not So) Sweet 16:Dark Lover or Fifty Shades of Grey- both alpha males and awesome series.
Do Over- over 40 couple- sweet rekindling of love.
A Knight in Shining Armor- published over 16 years ago (love it).

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: Here are a few historicals and a few fantasy choices-
Everything and the Moon
Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband
Significance
Touch
Almost to Die For

5. Elite 8:Amazing Grace- loved this YA about a pro tennis teen that has had enough.
The Sugar Queen or The Girl Who Chased the Moon- awesome books by a popular author.

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: Rainwater- didn't think I would like it but I loved it!
I noticed you don't read a lot of Contemporary Romance so here are a few I've enjoyed- Breathing Room or Houston, We Have a ProblemorAnd One Last Thing ...

7. Final 4: Devil in Winter- you've read the second in the series, how about the third? This one is my favorite.

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: Random picks from your tbr- (I happen to love them both ;))
I am Number Four
Lair of the Lion

9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg?
I am an egg so here is a pick that we both may want to read (it's the second in the series but we are both up to that, sorry if I broke the rules D.G.!)- Midnight in Austenland
Here are two other choices of first in series that I would like to read, maybe you would like to join me?
Shadows- this is actually a prequel. I read the first one and really liked it. This came out after it but takes place before the first one.
Texas Destiny

Happy Reading!

Diane ~Firefly~ | 1512 comments Rena,

It was certainly different to not recommend any paranormal, but fun. I hope you find something intriguing and let me know if you want to do one of the buddy reads. :)

1. Mad as a March hare: The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz has an original style. I think since you like Jennifer Crusie, you'll enjoy the life of PI Izzy Spellman and her crazy family.

2. Non Compos Mentis: You like Crusie and you like assassins, so I don't see how you can go wrong with Agnes and the Hitman. Another fun read with the law chasing and a cute great dane puppy - Hot by Julia Harper.

3. (Not So) Sweet 16: I saw you enjoyed a couple of the older Amanda Quick's so thought I'd recommend a couple of her older contemporaries - Family Man, Perfect Partners or Trust Me by Jayne Ann Krentz. They are all over 16 years old.

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: Traceless by Debra Webb looked like you're cup of tea.

5. Elite 8: I had Knock Me for a Loop by Heidi Betts sitting on my TBR for awhile and would be willing to do a buddy read of it if you wanted. Or if you need to read series in order, I'll recommend the first - Tangled Up In Love

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: I thought you might want to expand your fantasy options - Princess Academy by Shannon Hale or The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey which is a very interesting take on fairy tale character types.

7. Final 4: These were all published in a leap year. The Damsel in This Dress by Marianne Stillings - I think you'd like the suspense mixed with humor or Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard is one of my favorites by her.

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: I picked from page 8 of your TBR and chose Fade to Black by Leslie Parrish because the series name is Black CATs and that is my team name in bookshelf bingo in the SOS group.

9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg? We both have Kill Me Twice by Roxanne St. Clair on our TBRs, maybe it is time to read?

The Spellman Files (Spellman Series, Book 1) by Lisa Lutz Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie Hot by Julia Harper Family Man by Jayne Ann Krentz Perfect Partners by Jayne Ann Krentz Trust Me by Jayne Ann Krentz Traceless (Less Series, #1) by Debra Webb Knock Me for a Loop (Chicks with Sticks #3) by Heidi Betts Tangled Up In Love (Chicks with Sticks #1) by Heidi Betts The Damsel in This Dress by Marianne Stillings Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard Princess Academy (Princess Academy, #1) by Shannon Hale The Fairy Godmother (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #1) by Mercedes Lackey Fade to Black (Black CATs, #1) by Leslie Parrish Kill Me Twice (Bullet Catcher, #1) by Roxanne St. Claire

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments Nici, I had the best time digging through your books! I hope you like what I've picked for you. If not, I'd be glad to try again :)

1. Mad as a March Hare: World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks is my choice for this one. That is a funky title ;)

2. Non Compos Mentis: Naked in Death by JD Robb deals with the law since the heroine, Eve, is a cop. I love this series!

3. (Not so)Sweet 16: Wild Card by Lora Leigh. Noah is definitely an alpha male who has an amazingly dirty mouth. I've read this several times!

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang. It was on my rec's and you have it on your tbr list :) I've now added it to my tbr LOL

5. Elite 8: Lover Eternal by JR Ward is a super popular series and you've read the first one in it and gave it 5 stars. Why not continue? This is another one of my favorite series!

6. Nutty as a Fruitcake: Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas. This is definitely not something you'd normally read and it has quite a few humorous moments.

7. Final 4: You seem to really enjoy Anya Bast, so why not read the first in the series you've started by her, Wicked Enchantment.

8. Neither Rhyme nor reason: The Romanov Bride by Robert Alexander. It's on page 17 of your tbr. It caught my eye cause I love Romanov and Russian history.

9. Team Chicken: A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolick. I'd be glad to read it with you. I'm only doing 2 buddy reads this month, so I'm pretty free ;)

Carla (carlacollette) | 347 comments Penney—Hope that you find something you like (if not, let me know). You have great book lists!

1. Mad as a March hare: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/64... has an original take on amnesia—what if you forgot most of your married life? Would your 29-year-old self approve of the choices of you 39-year-old self? I just finished this and loved it (as did several in my book group)
2. Non Compos Mentis: For an earthy, spooky read, I’d recommend http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...

3. (Not So) Sweet 16: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42...
I’ve read good things about this book, published in 1995.

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: I see that you’re a Pride and Predjudice fan, too—here’s a retelling from my GR recs: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/92...

5. Elite 8: Since Lisa Kleypas is pretty popular, I thought that this one would qualify. I enjoyed it. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35...

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: For a funny, light read, I enjoyed http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82... , which is a funny memoir that will really hit home if you’ve ever bumped into an acquaintance that you haven’t seen for awhile, thought that they looked old, and then realized that they were thinking the same thing about you.

7. Final 4: It seems like with all the paranormal reads on your shelves, you must have a post-apocolypse book there, but I couldn’t find one. Instead, here’s a book published in a leap year http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20...

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41...
9. Buddy Read...Chicken or Egg? This one from your to-read list sounded good. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19...

I’m not sure if I’ll have time to do a buddy read this month or not. Happy reading!

Alexis (LexaReads) | 375 comments Hey Reetuparna! I had a lot of fun going through your TBR, it's so small! I don't know how you do it! At the same time it's probably good because you know what you want to read ;) Anyways, let me know if you don't see anything that fits your wishes this month and I'll try again for you!

1. Mad as a March Hare: The Sugar Queen I love her writing, they truly are quirky but sweet little stories. For an interesting title I chose Archangel's Consort because I just like it ;)

2. Non Compos Mentis: A political romance book is Extreme Exposure. A book that I've really enjoyed that has a lot of magic is Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble.

3. (Not So) Sweet 16: Simple Jess is just reaching it's 16th birthday. An amazing book with a very alpha alpha male is Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison.

4. The lights are on, but nobody's home: I had fun with this! I saw that you enjoy paranormal a lot so I chose Queen of Shadows. I also noticed quite a few sports romances which aren't really my thing, but I thought I'd try Out Of Her League.

5. Elite 8: I don't know if nascar counts as a sport but I love The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. A super popular book (I need to read soon) is the most recent Sophie Kinsella book I've Got Your Number: A Novel

6. Nutty as a fruitcake: I noticed you read lots of romance and very little else. So I thought I'd recommend one of my all time favorite books The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. An really light and fun read is Heiress for Hire by Erin McCarthy.

7. Final 4: I think I recommend this one to anyone that hasn't read it, but The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is seriously one of my favorites. The only author that really stood out to me on your read list is Nora Roberts, so I'll recommend her most recent book The Next Always.

8. Neither rhyme nor reason: From your third page I immediately noticed Into the Mist by Maya Banks

9. Buddy Read: I'm all about the chickens, so for my standalone I chose Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins because it is on both our lists :)

The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter, #3) by Nalini Singh Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins #1) by H.P. Mallory Simple Jess (Marrying Stone, #2) by Pamela Morsi Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan Out Of Her League (Suspense Series, #1) by Kaylea Cross The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein I've Got Your Number A Novel by Sophie Kinsella The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Heiress for Hire (Cuttersville, #2) by Erin McCarthy The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins The Next Always (Inn BoonsBoro, #1) by Nora Roberts Into the Mist (Falcon Mercenary Group, #1) by Maya Banks Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
