Hello! My Name Is...

My name is Stephanie McCarthy. I just finished my first mystery, Murder, Actually to be published by Attica Books in 2013. I love cozies and classics, comedy of manners types. Anything that doesn't involve gritty or bloody. I blog at http://stephaniemccarthyauthor.wordpr...
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!!!
Welcome Beth. I'm glad you joined the group, and thanks for posting in the Authors and Bloggers section.
Anne, glad you found us! You should have no trouble finding new authors - I know I've added many to my tbr.
Hi Brenda! Welcome to the group. I was a Hospice volunteer for a while and loved the experience.
Hey Stephanie! Welcome and congratulations on your book.

Hi Amanda, welcome to the group! You should find some new series here, there are many that have been mentioned in different topics and you can check our bookshelf.

I got into cozy mysteries while I was recovering from surgery and it hasn't stopped. I started reading the Donut Shop Mysteries around the time I was allowed to drive again and found myself at Winchell's at two in the morning.
I'm looking forward to finding some new series and authors to get caught up in.
Hi Kimberly, welcome to the group! What happens when you read other cozy themes? That's really getting into a series. ☺

I'm a foodie by nature and find a reason to eat or make something. I read through the Coffeehouse Mysteries by Cleo Coyle and started buying whole bean coffee and a coffee grinder. Extreme, yes, but my kitchen is my favorite spot in the house. I should look for an exercise cozy series to work off all the treats. Know of a good one?
Diana Killian has a yoga cozy series, starting with Corpse Pose. I haven't read it, but keep meaning to :)

"
LOL, Kimberly, isn't it interesting how many food-related cozy mystery series are out there and how few exercise-related ones there are. Linda Howard wrote two mysteries that feature Blair Mallory, a health club owner, so you might want to check those out. ;-)

Or maybe I'm more of a soft-boiled mystery author?
Anyway, I'm here to learn as much as I can and ask questions. I've been reading some of the threads here and it looks like a friendly group. I did notice a couple guys here. (I think they were guys.)
Okay, I'll admit I'm a bit nervous about stepping into the "cozy" corner with all you ladies. But I'm really looking forward to an education about this sub-genre, and this seems like the best place to learn what cozy really means.

Hi Bruce, welcome to the group! I hope we can answer your questions, and you'll join in the group reads.
Hey Jennifer, glad you came out of lurkdom and will be participating. ☺

Bruce and Mark - I found a list of cozies aimed towards men that shows there are male cozy writers as well as male readers :)

Hi Lisa, welcome to the group! I hope you'll find some new series here and introduce us to more of your favorites.

I'm so grateful to have GR to browse titles and read the recommendations!
Welcome to the group Cindy! Isn't the variety of cozies amazing? It's great to find a genre where there's something for everyone.

Hi Lisa! I love Jenn McKinlays books also! =)

Hi everyone!!! I see some familar faces here and want to say thanks to Barb for sending me here. My name is Robin and I live in Nebraska. I love reading but have never read any cozy mysteries. I have a few sitting on my shelves but have not been brave enough to try them because I don't like anything scarey, gory, or violent LOL I read a variety of genres and still branching out to try even more. I like to try to read a wide variety of genres/books as it helps to keep me from getting into a reading slump ☺
After seeing the cozy mysteries mentioned in other groups, I finally broke down and asked Barb about them and she gave me an explaination and led me here. I have seen and really like the themes of some of them like the crochet, knitting, library, bookstore series and would really like to give them a try and learn more about the genre ☺
I'm looking forward to reading my first cozy mystery and chatting with all of you here in the group!!!!
*waving back to Robin *
The lack of gore, violence and 'scare' is one of the things I like so much about cozies :) One of my new favorite series right now is Jenn McKinlay's Library Lovers series; the first book is Books Can Be Deceiving. It's a fairly new series, so if you start it now, you won't be *too far behind :)

Since I'm avoiding the "physical" library I will have to see if I can get it as an ebook/audiobook from Overdrive ☺ I think I will like the cozy mysteries that are "themed" Thanks again Barb for all your help!!!
Hey Robin! Good to see you here. I'm supposed to be avoiding the library too. I had to drop off some books at one, and only bought two books! I have three holds in at another one, but I just called and arranged to pick them up and drop off some books at the drive-thru window. Thank goodness for that window! It has saved me many times.
I think you'll find we all agree for the most part on the definition of a cozy, but we also have our differences.

Just like the romance genre, for the most part romance readers agree on the definition, the discrepancies usually are debated about whether or not there is an HEA. I am just lurking around the site, getting some ideas about series and what to read and I'm going to give them a whirl and see what I think ☺ Right now from the sounds of the themes, series names, and book titles I'm really going to like them!!!

Robin, The great thing about cozies is that they are not violent or scary! I dont like scary mysteries either..but I love cozies! I like the themes that you mentioned in your comment. Some of my favorite authors are Monica Ferris, Joanne Fluke, JoAnna Carl, Elizabeth Lynn Casey to name a few. =)
I think you will really like cozies!

Hi Nikki! =)
My Sister's name is Nikki, and my Son's name is Nicholas. What is your interest in school?

Whew!!!It's always nice to know you aren't a loner on things...like scarey mysteries etc ☺ Yeah, seeing the themes of some of the cozies are really appealing and what drove me to start asking questions LOL Thanks for sharing some of your favorite authors as I am writing them down now to check them out!!! I'm still learning about the genre and checking out different authors, books, series as so many of them are appealing...the next big step will be finally picking one out to read LOL Decisions decisions **sighs**
PS Nice to meet you Melissa!!!!

Thanks Beth!!! Nice to meet ya ☺

Hi Nancy! What book are you reading this weekend? =)

Hi MariLou!!I'm a crocheter but not a knitter ☺ I don't actually read while crocheting but listen to audiobooks ☺☺ I would rather listen to an audiobook than have the tv on lol

I am currently re-reading Explosive Eighteen from Janet Evanovich. I just finished reading Notorious Nineteen. Looking to get the new one Flower Shop mystery by Kate Collins. After I get paid LOL.
Welcome Nikki. Good luck with the prison books! Which cell block are you in?

OH MY LOL GEEE Thanks Jax...that's just the monkey wrench I needed to get thrown into my indecisiveness. LOLOLOLOLOL I think I'm going to hafta make a cozy shelf and get all these neat little series organized and work from that. ☺

Hi Melissa, As you can see I am re-reading Explosive Eighteen but hopefully after I get paid I can get the new Flower Shop mystery by Kate Collins. To many books so little money or time. LOL.

Nancy, Maybe your library has some cozies? =)
or...have you checked out PaperbackSwap.com?
( its a great way to post and trade "and get rid" of some books that you no longer need..and get books that you want! )

Hi Again Melissa, Yes I go to the library and I also get some books from a place called Half Price Books, they buy and sell so I will take some that I don't want and get money for them or buy other books. I love my town library. I hadn't gone in years and then a few years ago I got a card again and have been going ever since. There are just a few people I like to buy the books from though. Like Evanovich and Denise Swanson. Otherwise I go to the library. Thanks for the hints though. Oh yeah Goodwill is a great place to find books too.
Nancy, does your library have a sale corner? All the branches of mine do, and once a year they have a huge sale along with the WV Book Festival. I've gotten a lot of books that way.
There are some church-affiliated thrift stores that havea great selection too.

jaxnsmon, Yes it does. That is great too because it is a donation type of payment process. With my luck I will buy back my own books LOL.

Nancy, We have a used book store in our area called "Bookaholic",..and I trade books there. =)
and I love to shop Goodwill, they do wonderful things for our Community and have some great bargins as well! =)
