Thank you Stephanie for the invite to this group--way back whenever that was lol.
I'm Keri and I'm displaced again--living in Ohio right now dealing with my dad's estate (something I did a few years back) though my real home is back in Texas. Was pretty sick for a while dealing with Menieres (easiest way to describe is it's an inner ear imbalance) but feeling a little better and up to some reading again.
My sister gave me her old Kindle (gen 2) and so recently I also discovered just how nice it reading e-books. I like this group so much and the idea of cozy mysteries that I've decided to devote most of the books I read this year to the genre.
Hi Keri, ummm, belated welcome to the group :) Sounds like you've been dealing with a lot, and cozies may be just the thing torelax with. I hope you'll find some great books here and introduce us to some new ones.

Hi Rachel - welcome to the group! I saw The Lady Emily series by Tasha Alexander on your shelf and it looks really intriguing. I hope you'll join us in reading the May books and that you'll find some great new series here.
It's wonderful having new members. But it can also be a problem, since I have to go snooping through their shelves, and I end up adding more books to my tbr shelf. So thanks to all our members for bringing new series to my attention!

My name is Brittany and I'm 25 from the Chicago 'burbs. I rekindled my love for reading a couple years ago, right about the same I happed to stumble upon and become obsessed with Goodreads! I love mysteries of all sorts, but mostly cozies and I also read some "chick lit" and love dystopia novels as well and I cannot stop buying books, although I guess I could have a worse obsession :)
I just started a review blog if anyone would like to check it out: The Book Addict's Guide
Thanks!!

Welcome to the group, Brittany and Leslie. I hope you'll both enjoy it here. You're just in time to join in reading and discussing our books for May. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a good cozy.

I first fell in love with cozies when I read

Hi Heather. It seems like a lot of cozies have great titles to make us laugh, and want to pick them up!

I belong to another cozy group here on GR, and am enjoying it, but there are so many members and threads, it can be a bit overwhelming. This group looks more manageable (or dare I say - cozy!). I like the way you are doing the monthly reads, but I probably will not participate too much, since I have more than enough series (and non-mysteries, too) to keep me busy! I'm not looking for any new series at the moment, because I know I would get hooked, and I don't have the time, money, or space for that! LOL! I will really enjoy just chatting about cozies, and if you do the first book of any series I have, I will try to join in.

Welcome Denise. The intimidating size of the other group is one of the reasons this group was started.
Welcome Maria. You should check out our bookshelf. My two dogs are too big to sit with me, so I get the recliner and they get the couch.
Welcome Shona. Congratulations on graduating! And on having more time to read :)
I hope you'll all find some great cozies here.

Welcome to the group!
Sofia - Sounds like you've got your hands full. Sounds like you need some relaxing reading.
Evon - Thanks for choosing us as your first group!
Gary - It's great having so many different genres and levels of seriousness within each one. There's always something to fit your mood.
Hope ya'll enjoy the group and will join the discussions.

I'm Elizabeth & was with this group at the beginning, but had left. I can now post again, so I've decided to come back.
I'm an avid Thoroughbred Racing fan. In addition to cozy mysteries, I enjoy Christian fiction, some non fiction, and horse racing books, of course!
Good to be back.

Good morning everbody. My name is Carolyn. I joined Cozy Mysteries today. I'm 65 [66 on Friday] and love to read. Will be retiring soon and will have MORE time to read. I've been a avid horror reader fan, but got into mysteries.
Right now I'm reading Charles Todd's A Pale Horse. It's book 10 in the Ian Rutledge series. I am so hooked on Todd. I can't wait to read the next three in this series.
Thank you for allowing me to be a member. I think I'm gonna like it here.

Hi Susie! Welcome to the group. I'm sure we'll be able to help your TBR pile topple over.
Welcome back Elizabeth! Glad you decided to re-join us.
That's ok Chris. Another way people distinguish themselves is with an avatar. Sometimes we even change our avatars to mess with people :)
Hey Flora! I'm glad you found us, and hope you find some new series here, and maybe introduce us to some new ones.

I'm going to do some maintenance work on the group. I'll be moving many of the posts from the "Hello and Welcome" topic to this one. Then I'm going to rename that folder "What is a Cozy?" That way we'll have one topic for members to introduce themselves, and another with the definition of a cozy. I hope everyone will use the What is a Cozy topic to share their opinions on the definition.
The following posts have been transferred from the "Hello and Welcome" topic.

Thanks for the invite. I do enjoy cosy mysteries and are part of my yearly reading diet - everything in moderation. I can't promise to read every book, as not always available in Oz or for kindle downloads, but will try as much as i can and share those I do read.

A member of my book club recommended this group. I love cozies=especially food books.
Last year i went on a cozy tear and discovered many new authors like Jessica Beck-who does a doughnut bakery series.
I have not read either of this month's books but look forward to discovering new cozy books and authors.
By the way my name is Linda and i live in Texas.

Thanks Stephanie for the invitation. I like a cozy mystery on a weekend under the blankets. Perfect timing to start this group Stephanie. In Ohio, this is the type of book to read during the winter months ahead.

Thanks for inviting me, Stephanie! I used to read a heavy diet of cozies, but the Bees group got me going on much more of a literary bent. I still read 3-4 cozies a month, but it will be fun to meet some of the new characters that I haven't had a chance to red about yet.

I already have 20 authors to add to my read cozy mystery shelf, and who knows how many books that means! And that's only the A's and B's!! message 36: by jaxnsmom Mar 02, 2012 05:02pm
I usually like to start at the beginning of a series. Otherwise you miss some of the character development, or changes in relationships. I find, because of those, I don't like to go back to the prior books - they seem more like prequels then. I don't care for prequels in movies either. But if a series has a ton of books and started years ago, I might start more towards the middle. I know I'll never have time for all of the books, and the earlier ones might be dated. Then I'm okay with picking a certain point and starting from there.

But if a series has a ton of books and started years ago, I might start more towards the middle. I know I'll never have time for all of the books, and the earlier ones might be dated. Then I'm okay with picking a certain point and starting from there.

Cozy mysteries are my favorite! Thank you for the invitation.

Just joined the group. One of my favorite genres are mystery series -- without much sex, profanity or gory violence in them, so I'm assuming those are considered cozy mysteries. Happy to find this group and discover more authors to read!

Welcome Susan. You're right, cozies don't have much sex, profanity, or gory violence. Hope you'll find some enjoyable new cozies here.

Our computer is on a steady downward spiral and is only working sporadically, so please pardon my absence. I use an iPad at work during the day, but I do not like to use it for anything other than superficial internet surfing and house hunting! It is just annoying for much else, and you will probably always be able to tell when I am typing on it! My English major traits go out the window.
I will be ducking in and out, but until we get moved and settled in, it will be difficult for me to do a great deal of posting.

I am still adding to the list of books I have read, even though I don't think it was meant for a lifetime of reading, just recent stuff. Thanks for the group!

Hi - I'm new to the group and love mysteries (and almost everything else). I love the descriptor for the group and am thrilled not to have to deal with a ton of explicit scenes :) I'll have to remember the name(s) of some authors I enjoy, as I'm terrible with names. I also read classics and historical anything (including non-fiction). I'm a displaced Texan in Kansas, attempting to annex KS for my great state LOL

Hey Debbie. Maybe you'll introduce us to some new British cozies.
Hi Angela! Hope you'll find some more enjoyable characters and meet some interesting people here.
Hi Cyndi! As a professor, do you enjoy cozies involving academia, or avoid them as part of your escape?
Hey Cindy! Another British cozy enthusiast. You and Debbie should compare books. You can help introduce us to British series.

Welcome to the group Erin. There are several tea and wine series on our bookshelf. As far as nurses, I know of a couple.
Lori Avocato has a series with Paulina Sokol, an ex–nurse turned medical insurance fraud investigator.
Candy Calvert's Darcy Cavanaugh is an ER nurse, who solves mysteries while on cruises.

I will confess here in the introductions that I've written a cozy YA mystery called SUSPECT,but I promise, promise, promise that I won't be repeatedly and obnoxiously advertising that fact.
Welcome Kristin. Congrats on your books. Being an author is who you are, so it's very appropriate to mention it in your intro. But thank you for promising not to be obnoxious :D
Hope you find some great new series here.
