Welcome to the group Irene. There are so many Scandinavian thrillers, and I've just started my first, The Snowman. Maybe you can introduce us to some Scandinavian cozies. And hopefully you'll find some new series here.

message 155: by Christie (new)

Christie (christiegirl11) Hey!! I'm Christie. I'm a rising senior at the University of Alabama. Reading is my number one favorite thing to do. I just joined Goodreads because I have started having trouble finding books that I haven't yet read that have some substance. I read books of all genres, mystery being one of my favorites. I am glad that my break from school is here because I haven't had as much time to read for pleasure as I would like. I'm looking forward to being part of this group, I'll catch up on the reading!

Jessica Strack (netsiren) | 14 comments Hello everyone! I'm Jessica. I'm a mommy to 6 kids who are 14, 8, 7,5,2 and 17 months. I don't get much time to read anymore, but I'm slowly knocking out my TBR pile. I love reading and I'm thankful my kids have my love of reading.
I haven't been reading cozy mysteries very long. I do love them though. I enjoy Joann Fluke, and Amanda Lee so far. I've gotten a lot of other cozies from PBS I just need to get to reading them.

Hey Christie. Welcome to the group. Glad you'll have some time to catch up on your reading, and I hope you'll find some good books here.

Hi Jessica. Glad you joined the group. We'll have to add some more books to your TBR!

message 159: by Irene (new)

Irene Hi, my name is Irene. I live in Maine, although I've lived many other places. My husband is a die hard Mainer so I expect this to be my final home :-). I work as a CNA and spend as much time as I can reading, including my 1 hour drive to work. I love cozy mysteries but do read a variety of other genres as well.

message 160: by W. Donna (new)

W. Donna | 1 comments Hi, I am new here too. I didn't know it but I have been reading, "cozies" for a long time. I like to read a lot of different things, depending on my mood. I am from Indiana, my kids are grown and on their own, we have two grandchildren. My hubby and I will soon celebrate our 40th anniversary. We just moved into a log home, our dream. We love it.

message 161: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Hi, I'm Debbie. I love all kinds of books, but cozies do have a special place in my heart. I read a lot of Agatha Christie growing up. Then Mary Stewart. Then...well, lots of different authors.

I love the escapism. And that they're quick reads. I love a mystery that I can't figure out before the end. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often. But that's okay. There's that satisfaction of being right. Who doesn't like that?

I've read "Homicide in Hard Cover" and loved it so much I've read everything since. I'm looking forward to reading Pick Your Poison (A Yellow Rose Mystery, #1) by Leann Sweeney . This seems like a great group.

I hope you'll all find some new books to love!

Mandi (toxicmyst) | 5 comments Hello. My name's Mandi. I'm 20 years old and from Alabama. I currently work at a Books-A-Million, one of my dream jobs. So, I obviously love to read. I like different genres of books. But, I've recently got on a mystery kick. I like the cozy mystery better than others because they just seem straight forward to me. Because of that, I figured this group would be good for me.

Welcome to the group Mandi! I used to go the BAM near me and cruise the shelves with a little notebook and pen. Then I'd go home and get on the library website to see which books they had. Now I cruise the GR site, open a second screen for my library, and put books on hold :)

Thank you! I actually do both now. On my breaks, and during truck days, I make a list of what I want to read. And now, I look through GR and make a book shelf of what I want to read but haven't checked out yet. That way I can just print it out and go browse the library.

Hi Barbara. I know there are some good Italian mystery writers, but what about cozies? Maybe you can introduce us to some new authors.

Hi Tom. Cozies are great to get lost in, there are silly fun ones and more in depth ones, and such a variety of jobs and hobbies.

Wow, Deb, I'm impressed with everything you do, especially being a foster parent. Glad you find time to read!

Lori, we can help feed your cozy addiction! Hope you'll share some of your favorites with us.

Kim (craftier) | 6 comments Hello, my name is Kim. I live in the finger lakes region of NYS with my husband and 2 teenage daughters. I work as an Assistant Innkeeper at two local B&B's where I am finding lots of ideas for short stories and books. Some days I have more time to read than others. I read a variety of books - mystery, romance, fantasy, young adult, how-to, and childrens. As I perused the list of authors on Cozy-Mystery.com, I realized I have read more cozy mysteries than I thought. I am looking forward to reading a lot more!

message 184: by Denise (new)

Denise (dulcinea3) | 131 comments Don't worry Tom, you are not alone!!! I don't even have a library card. When I was a kid, I took books out from the library all the time, but as I got older, I prefer to own and keep the books. My collection just grows and grows! I get most of my books from Barnes & Noble, and have a membership with them. I like to browse in the bookstore (dangerous!), but I probably buy most of them online.

message 185: by Tammy (last edited Jun 15, 2012 12:57PM) (new)

Tammy (tammy60) Tom & Denise: I used to buy my books new & keep every book I read. Now I do a little of everything. Buy them new, buy them used, swap them & borrow from the library. I keep some authors books for re-reads because I like them so much, but not too many anymore.

I mostly do it this way due to being on a lower income than when I was younger. Now, I'll do most anything to save $$. :) Except give up reading...no, no way!!

Piacere, Barbara! Have you ever read Elizabeth Peters' book, THE SEVENTH SINNER? It's not a cozy, but it is a comparatively light mystery with great characters by someone who also delivers great cozy mysteries. Also, Ms. Peters novel CROCODILE ON THE SANDBANK and STREET OF THE FIVE MOONS have scenes in Rome.

Brenda (ravenhaired) | 14 comments Hello, my name is Brenda and I live in Utah, USA. I am from the South, but have been in the west for 20 years.

I love all kinds of books from Agatha Christi to Clive Cussler [my favorite] and Sir Author Conan Doyle.

I'm open to suggestions, but I don't read books with sex scenes or books with lots of vulgar language.

I like the cozy mysteries by Josi S. Kilpack.

I used to be that way. Through my 30's I wanted to own every book that interested me. Then I moved so often for a few years, that I decided to donate most of my books to the local library each time I moved. These days I can't afford to buy many books, although I've gotten some great ones at library sales. I've also lost that need to own them, I'd actually like to own less of all the stuff clogging up my house :D I get most of my books from the library, I have 3 great systems, and between books, cassette and cd audiobooks, playaways, and overdrive downloads, I can get almost any book I want in a reasonable time.

Welcome to our newest members!

Hey Kim. What kind of writing do you do? Are you plotting the murder of any of the guests?

Hi Monika. Reading has always been very important in my life too. I hope you'll find some great new books here. What kind of dog do you have? I have two border collie mixes.

Hello Brenda. I've been wanting to read Lemon Tart for a while now. Hope you'll share some other favorites with us.

message 192: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (ravenhaired) | 14 comments I read Kilpack's books out of order. I found Blackberry Crumble and it was really good so I looked for the others. Lemon Tart was really good too. English Trifle was so-so and Devil's Food cake was worse than english trifle. I'm hoping Key Lime Pie [#4] is good.

I've picked up my reading as I'm working on my own novel at the moment. I'm working on the editing.

message 193: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (ravenhaired) | 14 comments I liked "murder at the vicarage" by Agatha Christi. It was the first Miss Marple story. I was surprised, it was not written with Miss Marple as the lead, but with the Vicar as the lead. And the first half of the book Miss Marple was a little obnoxious. But it did get better. I have it on my Nook. I got it as a free book.

I have always thought thought that a book is one of the very best gifts. I love bookstores and libraries! Hi Dina. Reading is definitely a great way to explore the universe, and different time periods. What language do you read most of your books in?

Hey Denise. Cozies are so much fun. I love Izzy Spellman and her family.

Hi Connie. I remember being told to "turn out that light and go to sleep" many times, especially whenever I got a new book.
