Ailis | 227 comments This topic is not for the 99% of girls who love Twilight to giggle about their Twilight heart throb.
It's me, and others who'll take my side, (you 1%) fighting against the majority to prove TWILIGHT IS A BAD BOOK.

message 2: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments I think the series is horrible because
#1 Bella is a pathetic character with no backround who acts unhuman to bend and fit the plot. who treats their friends like she does and is so shallow to date a guy cuz he smells good???
#2 Steph Meyer cannot write
#3 it besmirches vampires and is just like something i would write as a rough draft like its an accident it was published
dang! i wish i knew i could make thousands off a crappy book with a horrible plot and no depth!

message 3: by Eibhleann (new)

Eibhleann | 1 comments its not great, thats true (I redid my review!) But, God Ailis, don't be so harsh.

message 4: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments I'm sorry for being harsh but its true- people up the hype so much when its nothing special. and i think its like a drug or something cuz people cant stop talking about it and that cant be good for you. (hence the drug part- its bad for you but addicting)

message 5: by Eric▲ (new)

Eric▲ | 716 comments i'm going to give twilight a try...
AFTER i've read Douglas Adams' books...

message 6: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ Okay. You're all entitled to your own opinions. I'm entitled to mine. So you can't "prove" that twilight is a bad book. Either ppl like it or they don't. So deal.

Personally, I think that it's a great book with an intriguing story and interesting characters. Sure, Stephenie Meyer's writing style is not the typical "good" writing style; she's not an amazing technical writer. But the way she tells a story really draws me in. I love the series. No need to be so dang harsh. There are WAAAY crappier books out there; trust me. why do ppl pick on twilight so much?

message 7: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments I know i just dont think the same. i dont think it has a good plot, characters, or way its written. dont i have a right to an opinion. I think you are all GREAT for putting forward your ideas! Even if we disagree. I'm just saying with "prove" is persuade and try to push through my ideas- make it 50% 50% and not the highlight of EVERY convo.

message 8: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments I'm not giving up where'd you get that? I'm trying to make people see that meyer is NOTHING SPECIAL AT ALL. what's good about her story? i can counter it

message 9: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments ok so why are you debating? thats what debating is- pushing through your ideas and opinions

message 10: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments their relationship is totally unhealthy and there is no plausable reason given by meyer that the relationship shouldv'e ever come to existence

message 11: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments i gotta go tok tomorrow- nvm next day NICE review eibhleann!

message 12: by Court (new)

Court Ailis, did you just read the first book then quit it? Because you should read ALL of them before you form an opinion about Stephenie Meyer's writng and the story itself. And its FICTION its not supposed to be plausible. How do you figure it 'besmirches' vampires? And Brigid, they pick on it so mucho because nearly everyone likes it.

message 13: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments BD was sooo bad!

message 14: by Court (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:18AM) (new)

Court Yeah, I didn't like BD either, but I think too many people started to like it, so she was under pressure, and I dont think she writes well under presssure, so if no one had read the books, then Breaking Dawn would've been awesome..

message 15: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments yeah. It was good for like 400 pg's and then it got BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XD

message 16: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments ps 4 ppl who dont know th ebook had 700+ pages

message 17: by Court (new)

Court I didn't like Jacob's Book. And the near-ending part in Bella Book 2

message 18: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments I liekd Jacobs part kinda.

But that scause me and Jake are engaged!

XD

lol jk...i whish...

message 19: by Court (new)

Court lol

i just thought his book was a lot of the same thing..

message 20: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments yeah. but the wolf thing was cool. I kinda wish that hed get over bella. Shes not that cool, kinda whiny and dramatic, and he could do sooo uch better!!!

Like ME for instance!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved BD! It had a bunch of plots twined together in one book. I was in Bella's and Jacob's thought which I thought was awesome! And Renesmee is an amazingly unique name!

message 22: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Okay, to the initial comment, you've got the proportions wrong. Yes, the 99% to 1% liking vs. not liking is likely accurate, but the "99% of girls who love Twilight to giggle about their Twilight heart throb." isn't accurate.

I liked twilight, but I would never in my possible existence have a crush on any of the MCs. Edward isn't even really that hot.

Now that that's said, I definitly liked other books much better. Now, I know it's not the same genre, and nowhere near the same writing style, but To Kill a Mockingbird is at least ten times better than twilight.

As far as breaking dawn, it didn't seem like it belonged in the same series. The plot was entirely different. This difference made me like it better than the other books. And it was entertaining to read the chapters from Jacob's perspective! It was interesting to see the different tone that everyone had been used to for the past three 1/3 books.

message 23: by Rowan (last edited Oct 31, 2008 03:32PM) (new)

Rowan (rowanintheskywithdiamonds) | 108 comments My dad is fourty-three and he loves the series...I recced the first book to him and now he's read the entire series, even before me! (I've only read the first two entirely.)

In, fact everyone I've recced it to has loved it. My dad, my mum, my friend Katrina, and my cousin Erin.

Also, I've met people who work at bookshops that like it - One girl got really excited when she found out I had read it and wrote me down some of the names of fanfiction for it that she likes! And in another bookshop I told my friend India to read it because it was really good and how my dad even liked it, and one of the workers said as she walked past us, "I think everyone is reading that book, it is REALLY good!"

Twilight has really only just broken through in this country, but I think it's clear that it's NOT just something that's adored by teenager girls who are in love with Edward. It's simply a great story all kinds of people can appreciate.

message 24: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) I'm reading BD right now, so no spoilers, 'kay? But I personally like it a lot more now than the first one. I think that she should've just made BD as one book and not put it in the series. I love that Bella and Edward are now

SPOILER

MARRIED WITH CHILDREN AND VAMPIRES BOTH OF THEM!
I ALSO LOVE THAT JACOB FINALLY GOT OVER BELLA FOR RENESMEE! AAAAHHH!!!!!

SPOILER

Okay, it's alright now. But I thought that the first few books conveyed what really happens in High School. You fall head over heels for a boy, you abandon your friends, your boyfriend is dangerous but you don't care etc. etc.

message 25: by Lela (new)

Lela | 167 comments She HAD to make it in the same series. She had to FINISH the story. I can see your point about it being 'so different' but she really DID have to put it in the same series or else it would have been like "Random! Why did she change series' when it's really just the end to the old series???"

message 26: by Riley (new)

Riley (booksarecool) Yeah, I just think that if she began it right it would make a lot better of a series.

message 27: by Lela (new)

Lela | 167 comments I really liked them all ['cept I thought BD was kinda graphic and yet not all at the same time if you know what I mean:] but I don't like them more than everything else and I'm certainly not obsessed or in love with the characters. I think there's a healthy balance between not liking reading and then getting overly obsessed with one series and not reading others.

message 28: by Chandani (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:38AM) (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments uughhhh!!!

I HATED BD!! It was good up until like the middle of part three and then i was like BLAHHHHH.

SPOILER!!!!!!

ITS SOOOO ANNOYING HOW THEY SPENT LIKE 200 PAGES PREPARING FOR THIS BIG HUGE FIGHT THAT DIDNT EVEN HAPPEN!!!! URGHHHH!!!! I LOVED ALL OF THE OTHER BOOKS BUT THIS ONE WAS REALLLY BAD!!!!

Twilight and New moon are my faves (New moon cause theres more Jacob than Edward) Eclipse was ok.....better than BD but she was just so whiny and insecure in Eclipse.....

oh wellers the books are still fun (except BD cause i swear i had a headache for a week after reading it)

message 29: by Violet (new)

Violet (violetspring) | 12 comments Yah, it's nothing special. Nothing special at all. Kind of cheesy. I don't really like it. Though my friend does. She bothered me to read Twlight and I did and now she botheres me to read the next book, even though I said to her that I don't really like Twlight. But does she listen? No!......*more ranting* Sorry. But I stand by my opion. Well, no I changed it 3 times. See my review!

message 30: by Violet (new)

Violet (violetspring) | 12 comments Here's my review. As you can tell I changed it many times:

It was OK. I guess it is just not my thing. I like vampires that kill and suck people's blood better then those kind. Well, those kind are OK.

****
This is my edited reveiw. I though back to this review and I found what I really don't like about it: It was a love story. A real love story, and not went two charater are on an aventure and they happen to fall in love. No, this was nothing like it. It was basicly a love story.

What I said before about that, I don't like the vampires in the book, I don't really mean it. The vampires are pretty cool ones and not like to normal one that sleep in cofins, and suck people's blood, ect. They are oraignal and cool.

So I don't like Twilight that much because it is a love story. Weird. Girls are the ones who LOVE love storys. I guess I'm not one of them.

****

My review has changed over the months and I would like to tell you what I know think of Twlight:

I know why I hate it!!! (well, don't like but who cares?) Because her writing in not good, the plot is unoriginal! The vampires are unoriginal! Nothing special about her writing at all!! I don't see why people are so in love with this book. It........okay I'll say it. It sucks!

message 31: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments i think that its kinda stupid how she uses the same descriptive wrds!

message 32: by Violet (new)

Violet (violetspring) | 12 comments Yah. *sigh* People only like, no wait love, the book is because it's a love story with a hot vampire that doesn't drink people's blood. What more could you want. It's just stupid.

message 33: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) I thought BD was better than the rest. I enjoyed the difference. I like the books because she is good at telling a story. You have to admit that. There is something there that keeps people reading.

But it definitally is NOT literature. Far far far far far far far from it. I think everybody who reads twilight should go and read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and then have a poll on how many people wanted to gouge that one teachers eyes out (you know, the BURN THE UGLINESS one? I hate her more than umbridge)

Breaking dawn, it makes you love the characters. But there is NO POINT where you 100% absolutely, positively, LOATHE a character. If she had done that, I might just adore the books instead of just 'liking them quite a bit'

message 34: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments I absolutely posotively 100% Hate Edward.

but i LOVE JACOB!

message 35: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Yeah, I'll admit, jacob is at least 15X cooler than edward. In my opinion, at least.

message 36: by Diana (new)

Diana (higura_natume) | 931 comments Well in my case it was like this:

I loved Twilight.

I mean, yeah Bella has problems but she had 3 more books or like 2,000 pages to mature

But I HATED breaking dawn

because that was when i realized that the book hadn't gotten anywhere

flaws are okay in the first book, but they need to be mostly fixed by the last!

I think Stephenie Meyer's just too nice to her characters
THey only learn from suffering Stephenie!

But yeah, im in love with edward even if he was boring in breaking dawn and jacob was better in taht book

message 37: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments UGH JUST THINKING ABOUT BD GIVES ME A MIGRANE!!!!!!

*Runs off to get tylonal and downs thewhole bottle*

message 38: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Geez! Don't die chandani!

Veronica (v_a_b) LOL! I SAVED A LIFE TODAY! HOORAY!!!

message 41: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments GO RONI!!

message 42: by Diana (new)

Diana (higura_natume) | 931 comments yeah some of my friends loved the ending and im like

"It doesn't need to be Romeo and Juliet but I was hoping for something a little more tragic."

message 43: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments I was hoping for something a little more GOOD!!

message 44: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments me too

message 45: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments for your info. i did read the WHOLE series. i just didn't feel like posting 4 books on my read shelf just like i didn't post 7 for harry potter. i state clearly in my review "the series"

message 46: by Ailis (new)

Ailis | 227 comments Courtney, you should stop defending meyer. its the book we're talking about- whether its good or bad- not excuses. BTW she posts excuses regularly in her books so no need for you to do it. she was going to make a whole new book to make-up for her earlier blunders and contradicitons.

message 47: by Court (new)

Court Wtf???? I havent posted in like days and now ur attacking me???
And I'm not necessarily defending her. I'm just putting that up there, so maybe you'd put that into consideration. Plus, it might just not be "your kind of book",ok? And I didn't like BD and I only gave one "excuse' for that, which I think makes sense, and it DOESN'T change the fact that I didn't like it.

message 48: by Diana (new)

Diana (higura_natume) | 931 comments but you have to acknowledge the expectations that were held for BD were like beyond high
and not to mention the ending is the hardest part to write in any book most of the time

message 49: by Court (new)

Court Yeah, thatz what I said and Ailis is saying that she doesn't need "excuses".

message 50: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments The ending is the hardest part but honesly my seven year old little sister sould have done better than that. If she had used that ending in a 5th grade essay she would have gotten a B-. That book was so completely horrible its BEYOND excuses.

I cant believe that she was an ENGLISH major! I mean if she was a major in writing really bad books that would make sense but...
