The Ghost on My Couch

From my TBR:
Just Like Heaven
The Fall Of Troy

I hope you find something that interests you here :)

message 222: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mandypants) Thenia, I swear you've read basically everything I would recommend. Ok, maybe not everything, but a lot of good books. I hope you can find some more from this list.

Their TBR:
What Happens in London by Julia Quinn- Well, you read the first one. But, I liked this one so much better than the first. Hopefully, you will too.
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb- Read this for August's PIFM. I wish I had started the series earlier. It's just so unique.

New To Them:
Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning- You've read all the fever books. Moning's highland series does have some characters that appear in the fever series.
Riding the Storm by Sydney Croft- It's X-Men with sex! I thought it was a good start to a series that will hopefully get even better.
American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout- This is pretty dark and plot driven. But, it's not exactly romance.

My Favorites:
The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook- I keep recommending this because I just love it so much. It's a super fun book that I would have no problem re-reading.
Surrender by Pamela Clare- Historical romance set in colonial America.

My TBR:
Need by Carrie Jones- This has been on the top of my TBR list for two months now. It's also on yours.
Warrior by Zoe Archer- A friend has been talking about the awesomeness of this Indiana Jones like book.

What Happens in London (Bevelstoke #2) by Julia Quinn Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Riding the Storm (ACRO, #1) by Sydney Croft American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook Surrender (MacKinnon’s Rangers, #1) by Pamela Clare Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, #1) by Zoe Archer

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments ~~Lacy

From their TBR
[1]-The Searchby Nora Roberts. I gave it 5 stars.
[2]-Fired Upby Jayne Ann Krentz. I gave 4 stars. If you havent really read any of the arcane society this one will seem a bit out there but it does a great job of trying to keep you up to date with everything going on.

New to Them -
[1]What The Lady Wantsby Jennifer Crusie. you have a lot of Cruise on your TBR list but not this one. This one is probably one of my favorites by her.
[2]Intertwinedby Gena Showalter. You have a lot of Gena Showalter on your TBR list but havent read much by her. I've heard really good things about her Intertwined series.

Your Favorites -
[1]-Dark Desireby Christine Feehan. My favorite in the Carpathians series. I'd totally reread this one.
[2]-Hunting Groundby Patricia Briggs. Probably one of my favorite books ever. I reread this one atleast once a month just to visit with them. Porbably my favorite supernatural couple ever. (Cat and Bones are a close 2nd) Before you start this book you might want to read Cry Wolf just so you can see where Anna is coming from.

From your TBR
I didn't understand if the books you had listed on "Borrow" meant you hadn't read it or not. If it means you haven't read them I would recommend:
[1]Say No To Joe?by Lori Foster
[2]Frostbiteby Richelle Mead

If you have read the books on your "borrow" shelf I would recommend:
[1]Agnes and the Hitmanby Jennifer Crusie
[2] Kiss of Crimsonby Lara Adrian

Hopefully you find a book or two in this bunch that you like =)

Tania | 644 comments Yz,

As always I love looking through your bookshelves! Here are my picks for you, I restrained myself to three picks a category (yes, the original list was much much longer :)

From your TBR
My picks from your TBR are all contemporaries that range from sweet to hot :)

Savor the Moment by Nora Roberts - I love the Bride series from NR and I particularly loved Savor the Moment. She just writes such great friendships that you feel like you know and like these women.

Giving Chase by Lauren Dane - You don't have any other Lauren Dane on your shelves which is surprising. I love her books, and this series was great.

Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James - After overdosing on cowboy romances years ago these books have enticed me back and are now on my auto buy list. The series starts out good and just keeps getting better and better as you get invested in the families.

Savor the Moment (Bride Quartet, #3) by Nora Roberts Giving Chase (Chase Brothers, #1) by Lauren Dane Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James

New to You
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper - Molly Harper does vampires in her own lighthearted style. In a the current climate of dark and dangerous vampires the Jane Jamieson series is a refreshing take on what happens when a small town librarian gets turned vampire. (it's great in audio book btw)

Roane by Marie Harte - Marie Harte is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. Her Circe's Recruit starts with this book and just gets better from there.

Grimspace by Ann Aguirre - I love love love these Sirantha Jax novels. They're kind of a cross between U/F and Sci-fi but if you don't read much sci-fi don't let that put you off. And March would have to go down as one of my favourite heroes of all time.

Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper Roane (Circe's Recruits, #1) by Marie Harte Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre

My Favs
Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews
I've only just discovered this series and I'm loving it - I'm halfway through this book now and I promise you won't be disappointed.

River Marked by Patricia Briggs
YZ! You haven't read this. Mercy and Adam get MARRIED!

Key of Light by Nora Roberts
The second book in this trilogy is one of my fav comfort reads. Actually who am I kidding I consume the entire trilogy on a regular basis. As I said before - NR does friendships like no one else and you will love these women and their men.

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs Key of Light (Key trilogy, #1) by Nora Roberts

From my TBR
Ill Wind by Rachel Caine - I keep meaning to start this series and then keep getting sidetracked... but everyone says great things...

Never Enough by Lauren Dane ADRIAN's book!!!! - sorry I love these Brown Siblings. Even though I think you could pick anyone of these books and start reading I guess it wouldn't be fair to throw you in four books down the line so you'd have to start with Laid Bare

And of course....
Dark Predator by Christine Feehan. Need I say more.

Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine Laid Bare (Brown Siblings, #1) by Lauren Dane Dark Predator (Carpathians, #22) by Christine Feehan

Hope you find something you like!

2. Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

4. Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean

My Favorites
5. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
6. Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan
The Help by Kathryn Stockett Warprize (Chronicles of the Warlands, #1) by Elizabeth Vaughan

From My TBR
7. Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale

With the exception of the last two books, for obvious reasons, I consider all of these to be on my 'Favorites' list. I hope you find something you like among them.
Happy Reading!

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Tiffanny, Really enjoyed seeing some of the books you have on your shelf. Let's see if I can't find something that you would enjoy adding to it.

From TBR –
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James

New to Them –
Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie - not a single Crusie in your list (that I can find). This one has a supernatural aspect to it that makes it a little different than some of hers, but still very good example of her works.
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward - you only have 1 Ward book. You didn't seem to enjoy it as much as I did, but you did enjoy the Demonica novels by Ione, so you would probably enjoy the Black Dagger Brothers aslo.

Your Favorites –
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen - SAA is one of my all time favorite authors, I see you enjoyed Peach Keeper and I thought Garden Spells was even better.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman - This one is so different and it is sort of a combination between a mythological, supernatural adventure, interesting if nothing else.

From your TBR –
Stray by Rachel Vincent - we both have this one on our TBR, seems like something both of us would enjoy. If you want, we could do a buddy read out of it.
Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts - You have several Nora Roberts in your read list and this is one of the new ones. I would like to see what this is about and again, if you are interested in doing a buddy read, I am in.

Hope you can find something in here that you want to read this month, if not, let me know & I will dive back in after some more. Thanks for joining in.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Hi KarenH,
Here are your picks. Hope you find something to enjoy:

From your TBR:
Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost
Cover of Darkness (Suspense Series, #2) by Kaylea Cross
Haven't read these yet but they look good.

2 new to you:
Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley
Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden
You have these authors but not these books.

My favorites:
Surrender by Pamela Clare - recently finished this. An amazing read.
Public Secrets by Nora Roberts - an oldie but a goodie.

From my TBR:
Double Play by Jill Shalvis
How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks
These two are on your TBR as well.

~KarenH~ | 11344 comments Hi Lauren, thanks for the picks! Since the first two are already in my plans for September, I definitely will be reading them - Eternal Kiss of Darkness and Cover of Darkness (Suspense Series, #2). All of the others sound interesting too, so I'll also be looking at some of them if I have time at the end of the month.

Thanks again for the great picks!

message 229: by Vi (last edited Aug 29, 2011 07:07AM) (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Hi Brenda,

You seem to like category books and I do too. I haven't seen many who read them so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw your books. I didn't save the recs I made for you the first time but I've tried to do a combo - some recs from authors/genres you like and some slightly outside your zone. Hope you like the recs. If not, I'd happy to re-do them for you.

From your TBR:

1. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong - This is one of my favorite UF/PNR series ever. I love Clay and Elena and the twist on the werewolf shifters is great. The whole series has good world-building. The series will be completed with book #13 to be released soon.
2. Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James - This is the first Julie James book that I read and I love it. The chemistry between the two leads is awesome as is their banter. A great contemporary.
3. You Belong to Me by Karen Rose - Karen Rose is my go-to author for Romantic Suspense. All the books are standalone novels, so you can start at any book. If you want to start from top, then you could start with Don't Tell.

New to Them:

4. Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning - I started this series recently after a PIFM recommendation. While I didn't like the first book, the series got better after that. Now, it is one of my favorite series. Oh and the male lead is an alpha-hole but you end up liking him at the end.
5. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie - I notice that you've read other titles of Crusie. Why don't you try this? It is one of Crusie's best books.
6. Feels Like Home by Beth Andrews - A short quick fun read. This was the first time I read this author and I like her voice. I will definitely be looking for more of her books.
7. Hounded by Kevin Hearne - A action-packed fantasy which deals with Irish Mythology mostly with a dash of Indian Mythology. The notable part is the fantasy. It was done really good.

My Favorites:

8. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - This is a short YA book but it's applicable to all ages. This book was so damn emotional that I was crying at the end. I'm planning to get the paper version even though I have the ebook version because I hear it has superb illustrations.
9. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell - I read this book last month and I would rank it as one of my top reads for this year. It was THAT awesome.

From My TBR:

I have listed books that we both have in common.

10. Fallen by Lauren Kate - I've been hearing great stuff about this book. Plus I love the cover. I am planning to read this soon. I just don't know when.
11. The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter - People seem to be crazy about this series. And I want to know why. Even though I hate don't like the covers, I think it's time I gave this series a chance.
12. Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison - This series has been on my radar for months now. With the third book in the horizon, I can safely start reading this.

My real life is all kinds of crazy that my reading is very random. So it will be hard for me to do any buddy reads this month.

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James You Belong to Me by Karen Rose Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie Feels Like Home (Harlequin Superromance) by Beth Andrews Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness Attachments by Rainbow Rowell Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison

message 231: by Lili (last edited Aug 28, 2011 11:08PM) (new)

Lili | 343 comments Hey Penney!
Since I was the very last one to post my recs last month I wanted to make amends and be one of the first ones this month so... here are your picks!
Getting your list ready was super fun and easy, we pretty much read the same kind of books so we've got tons in common.
Hope you find something you like, if not, let me know and I'll get a new list for you... happy reading!!

From your TBR
Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole. You have to be ready for Lothaire when it comes out in January, this isn’t the best one in the series, especially after Demon from the dark, which was hilarious and quite sweet but it still is pretty good.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. An amazing book, it was so weird but really interesting to read a story told by Death itself… heartbreaking and sweet and so much more.

New to You
One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. My favorite series, Stephanie is sooo dumb and silly but hilarious, I love her, this book actually made me laugh out loud.
Graceling by Kristin Cashore. I’m not into Young Adult books but there are some of them that just blow my mind, the Hunger games books are a great example of this but so is Graceling, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

My Favorites
P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern. Did you watch the movie?, I did and then read the book, both are great, especially if you think about Gerard Butler as Gerry… yum!
Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. This is one of my all time favorite books, it’s funny and romantic and… just so sweet!

From my TBR
Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. I haven’t read any dragon books in a while and this one’s supposed to be really good.
Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard. This book has been recommended to me before but never got to read it, it has great reviews and ratings.

message 232: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11344 comments Hi Kate, here are your picks - I hope you find something that works for you, if not let me know and I'll try again!

From Your TBR:
Midnight Awakening ~ You've rated the first two books highly, maybe it's time to move on in the series (IMHO it just keeps getting better and better).
Out Of Her League ~ I read this earlier this month, and loved it - can't wait to move on to the next book in the series!

New to You:
Water for Elephants ~ I think this was possibly my favorite book of 2010, or at the very least in the top 5.
Forget Me Not ~ You appear to like RS as much as I do, and I'm enjoying this series. Maybe you will too.

My Favorites:
I couldn't limit this to just two books - there were just too many great choices (and one of them I used above)!
The Help ~ There's a reason for all the hype - it really is as good as everyone says it is!
Hard Evidence ~ You gave the first book in the series 5 stars, and I thought this one was even better.
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf ~ If you're looking for something a little bit lighter, this was just plain fun.
Pursuit ~ As far as I'm concerned, this is as close to the perfect RS novel as you're going to find, by a terrific author - Elizabeth Jennings (aka Lisa Marie Rice).

From My TBR:
Changing the Game
Moon Called
These are both books I'm planning on reading this month, so if you're interested in a buddy read of either one of them, I'm willing!

I loved this book! I love this era! I hope you love it just as much:-)
Blindsighted
I noticed you like Harlan Coben! So why not try another Mystery/Crime writer? This book is the first in Karin Slaughters Grant County Series, she can be quite close to the mark at times but utterly brilliant.

Sana (sanashams) Hi, Missie!

It was interesting to go through your bookshelves and sort out the recommendations. We have some similar taste in books and I hope you like the recommendations I made for you. If not, I would be happy to change them for you!

From your TBR Books that I have read and hopefully enjoyed or heard good things about.
- The Notebook by Nicolas Sparks.
I have read it and it's one of my favorite contemporary romances. I hardly like a book enough to give it a 5-star rating so I would highly recommend this to you.
- The Devil Who Tamed Her by Johanna Lindsey.
I haven't read any books by Johanna Lindsey but I like the synopsis of the book and have heard great things about it, as well. In fact, all three books in the Reid Family series looks great.
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks The Devil Who Tamed Her (Reid Family, #2) by Johanna Lindsey

New to Them - Books not on your TBR.
- Falling Under by Gwen Hayes.
You are not into young adult so Falling Under would be a good first young adult paranormal read. It is gory and suspenseful and I liked it very much.
- Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force.
I read it a while ago and I liked it. You can give it a go if it seems good enough.
Falling Under by Gwen Hayes Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force

My Favorites - Books that I have rated highly (5 start preferred) and would gladly re-read if I had the time.
- Double Standards by Judith McNaught.
This is my absolute favorite as it has all the elements I like in a good book. From jealous moments to shocking revelations to ruthless intrigue to a self-controlling reckless hero and a spirited heroine; it has it all.
- Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise.
Witty, humorous and sarcastic leading characters rates high in this book and I simply love it. It is perfect parts hot and risky. A very engaging read.
Double Standards by Judith McNaught Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

From my TBR - Books that I have been wanting to read or are new to both of us.
- Blood Law by Karin Tabke.
I recently discovered the book and I have been planning to read it. The synopsis seems very interesting. The book is new to both of us.
- The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks.
The book is erotic romantic suspense and it looks like a great read. The synopsis is somewhat similar to Wild Card by Lora Leigh.
Blood Law (Blood Moon Trilogy, #1) by Karin Tabke The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) by Maya Banks

Let me know if you are up for the buddy read for any of the books from the From my TBR category. I am willing to do one.

layla is a picky reader | 667 comments Hi Diane Whitney !
We don't really have many books in common, so it was very interesting finding something for you.

From your TBR
# Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë - The heroine is one of the best female characters of English literature.I truly enjoyed this book.
# Naked in Death by J.D.Robb -Is the start to a very looong series that enfolds Eve's and Roarke's relationship.*sigh* Together they are your ideal couple.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb

New to you - I love this section! It gives me the opportunity to rec all sorts of books that you don't usually read.*grin*
# Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - I'm tired of singing praises to Nalini Singh but this series is so good, one of my favourites at the moment. Angels Blood is the beginning of the relationship between the two main characters. They kinda remind me of Eve and Roarke.
# The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole - Another start to another good series. There is also an amusing side to these books.
# Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips -Another fun book but not PNR.This is a very good example of why opposites attract each other.

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #1) by Kresley Cole Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

My Favourites
# Silk Is for Seduction by Loretta Chase -This historical is very good and I don't say that lightly. There is no wishy-washy heroine here.
# Cry No More by Linda Howard -If you're going for this one, prepare yourself some tissues.
# Go Fetch! by Shelly Laurenston -S.L has an hilarious sense of humour.

Silk Is for Seduction (The Dressmakers, #1) by Loretta Chase Cry No More by Linda Howard Go Fetch! (Magnus Pack, #2) by Shelly Laurenston

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Jane (PS)! Here are my picks for you. If nothing jumps out, give me a shout and I'll find something else :)

From your TBR:
Ill Wind by Rachel Caine - This is a really unique urban fantasy and it has a great romance running alongside the main plot. Very action focused.
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong - Another urban fantasy, but this one drops you in the middle of a relationship between Elena and Clay. I really enjoyed it as there's a good balance of mystery and romance.

Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong

New to You:
The Twilight Before Christmas by Christine Feehan - you seem to be a big Christine Feehan fan but don't have any Drake Sisters books on your shelves. This is the first in that series.
First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost - you enjoyed the first three night huntress books and this is a spin off. Apparently it's more romance focused than Cat and Bones.

The Twilight Before Christmas (Includes Drake Sisters, #2; Christmas, #2) by Christine Feehan First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

My Favorites:
Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill - another urban fantasy recommendation, but this is a great read with a brilliant lead character.
Play of Passion by Nalini Singh - you seemed to enjoy most of the other psy-changeling novels: this is my favourite and you don't seem to have read it so hopefully you'll enjoy it.

Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill Play of Passion (Psy-Changeling, #9) by Nalini Singh

From my TBR:
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick - I've been meaning to read this for ages but keep putting it off even though everyone seems to like it. I just don't want to dislike the book because I love the cover :)
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness - I've had this on loan from my library for a couple of months but haven't read it yet because it's huge. Again it's supposed to be a great read.

Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Katherine - I'll have your picks up for you tonight.

Britta - I know I don't have a TBR shelf. I like it that way. Just stay away from Regency and I'll be happy.

Oh dear...so many choices. : )

I have access to the following, so I'll be definitely reading one of these books. Not sure yet which one. :)

Savor the Moment
River Marked
Grimspace
Magic Burns
Key of Light

I would like to try the Lauren Dane and Lorelei James books, but unfortunately I can't get my hands on them. I have a Nook, so if anybody has a lendable copy..... you know what I mean... : )

Anyway, great recs, Tania. I wish I have more time for reading these days, because I really would like to read all your recs...but I will definitely get one done.

As Mark Twain once said: I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead. I know we were only supposed to give 2 recs per category but as we read some of the same things, I had tons of books I wanted to recommend you. At the end I couldn't decide which books to cut so you're getting double the recs. :)

I hope you find something there you like. I recommendeded some books that I usually wouldn't recommend here but I know you have broad tastes and wouldn't mind something different. :)

From Your TBR
Alpha & Omega & Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs: You actually don't have A&O in your TBR but you really need it before reading Cry Wolf.
Sea Swept by Nora Roberts: This is my favorite NR series.
Fatal Shadows by Josh Lanyon: I haven't read this one but I was very intrigued by the M/M Mystery.

New to You
The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa: A riveting story about the end of the Trujillo era in the DR.
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein: Really cute and insightful book. I'm not into racing at all and still remember some of the racing maxims.
The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly - I cried buckets with this one but it was worth it.
Dissolution by C.J. Sansom: One of my favorite historical mysteries, set in the times of Henry VIII.

Some of My Favorites
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline: This is my latest 5-star book. I just loved it! If you can, please get the audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton. It's marvelous.
Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase: Probably my favorite book by this author, with one of the most original heroes I've ever read. You really don't need to read the book that comes before this one in the series to get this one. They are almost not related at all.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. This is the book that got me into epic fantasy...the language is simply beautiful.
Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James - Not sure if you are into contemporary romance but this one is very funny.

From My TBR (Please let me know if you are interested in doing buddy reads.)
The Princess Bride by William Goldman - I've been meaning to read this book for ages.
If Angels Burn by Lynn Viehl - A short one, in both our TBRs.
Hounded by Kevin Hearne - I've heard a lot of good things about this.
He Died with His Eyes Open by Derek Raymond - I just got this one from Net Galley and it seems like something we would both enjoy.
