I am so excited for this month! I am going to try to get Would-Be Witch for sure. I would like to get to Moon Called and You Slay Me sometime soon too...not sure if I will get to it this month though. Thanks for the great picks!

As I browsed through your shelves I saw that you’ve read a lot of books but you rated very few of them and it was a bit difficult to understand what you like and don’t like. Anyway, I hope you enjoy what I chose for you.

Thanks Polina for the great recommendations! I had so much trouble picking which ones to read since they all sounded so good, but I finally decided on Dark Lover and Just the Sexiest Man Alive.

Thanks alot! You've made really hard for me to decide, LOL!

I'm going to go with

Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare and At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost .

Kami (katmiv) Hi Tosha, I'm afraid I'm at a little bit of a disadvantage here because we only have 3 books in common (and they were more short stories than books really....) and our ratings for those are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Also I see you are a new member here (welcome to Goodreads!!) and your shelves are a little sparse at the moment so I'm not sure if I'll be recommending something you've already read... that being said, I feel I should give you a couple suggestions to choose from in each category in the hopes that something will catch your eye. I'll do my best to be as unbiased as I can be in my recs. If absolutely nothing I suggest looks promising, please PM me with an idea of your literary likes & dislikes and I'll try to give it another go. Best of luck. :)

Friends : A Certain Slant of Light, The Hunger Games, A Season of Eden (all were recommended to me during a PIFM challenge)

A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins A Season of Eden by J.M. Warwick

Romance : The Time Traveler's Wife, Just Breathe, Giving Chase (one of them I loved, one was so-so and one I hated...again, trying to be objectionable here) ;)

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs Giving Chase (Chase Brothers, #1) by Lauren Dane

Intense : The Woods, Sharp Objects, Paranoia (I see you're a fan of Finder, I am as well, but I'm not sure which books of his you've already read, but my personal fave of his was Paranoia).

The Woods by Harlan Coben Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn Paranoia by Joseph Finder

Emotions : Broken, Veronika Decides to Die, The Slow Moon: A Novel

Broken by Megan Hart Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho The Slow Moon A Novel by Elizabeth Cox

New : The Only Alien on the Planet, Blue Aspen, The Delivery Man: A Novel (These guys were new to me so I hope they are new to you too)

The Only Alien on the Planet by Kristen D. Randle Blue Aspen by Tenaya Jayne The Delivery Man A Novel by Joe McGinniss Jr.

Support : I'm so sorry, I'm not familiar with any of the books on your TBR shelf except for Sheet Music which is one I got as a freebie for kindle. A little awkward as a 'buddy-read' but I'm game if you are. LOL!

Sheet Music by Kevin Leman

Bonus : Summer Sisters, The Last Summer

Summer Sisters by Judy Blume The Last Summer (of You and Me) by Ann Brashares

There ya have it. Again, welcome to Goodreads, I hope you'll love it here as much as I do. If you're ever looking to add any friends, feel free to hit me up. :)

Amanda D. (tinyminx) | 634 comments Here it is, SheSwitches! The anticpated list! We have very different reading preferences, though I am finding myself going through your lists and adding more to my own TBR. : )

A good portion of the picks are from your TBR list, but I threw in some books that you might find interesting. Enjoy!

April Pick It For Me

Friends
Option #1: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. This book was recommended to me in my first PIFM challenge by Debbie. I absolutely loved it!
Option #2: Warrior by Zoe Archer. I really love this entire series and it all started with this one book. I first heard about it from a book blog I read.
Option #3: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. If you enjoy a good dystopian tale, this will be right up your alley. My favorite teacher swore by this book and it easily became one of the most enjoyable books I read during high school.

Romance
Option #1: Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole. I love love love this series!! This book is chock full of tragic hero angst and steamy romance and, in my personal opinion, one of the best stories from the Immortals After Dark books.
Option #2: Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione. Another good PNR series. I definitely encourage you to continue with book two. I’ve only read up to book three, but this one still remains as my favorite pairing.

Intense
Option #1: Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. To this day, I don’t think I’ve ever read a more nail-biting, edge of your seat type book than Battle Royale. It’s raw, gritty, and action packed.

Emotional
Option #1: The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. I’m not quite finished with this monster of a book yet, but oh my eff. If you want to be catapulted to the capacity of your emotional range, this would be the book. If you’ve ever seen the movie, Crash, I would have to compare it to that, except place it in the 1900s and in England.
Option #2: Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding. My love of laughing certainly rivals my love of reading. If you’re into humorous, relatable heroines, Bridget Jones and her embarrassing exploits will hopefully leave you in stitches.

New
Option #1: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. A bit different from your usual reading, this stood out on your TBR list. This genre seems to be getting super popular and I found the balance of fact and fiction within the book to be cleverly done.

Don’t Forget
Option #1: Zero at the Bone by Jane Seville. I’ve actually heard great things about this book and its rating on GR seems to attest to that fact. Get this off your TBR list already, woman! : )
Option #2: Cinderella Unmasked by Bonnie Dee. While I was rooting through your TBR list, the cover original caught my eye. After reading the description, I quickly added it to my TBR list! Give it a read and let me know how it is!

Spport
Option #1: The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton. I’ll admit that I have a weakness for jock-type heroes. The cover is yummy and I’m just looking for any excuse to read this one.
Option #2: Lust by Charlotte Featherstone. This is one of those books where I keep promising myself I’ll pick it up, but I never do. However, there is no time like the present and I’m interested in seeing the seven sins personified along with their virtuous counterparts.

Bonus
Option #1: Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta. I’m usually wary when it comes to young adult books, but I was really floored by this story. I found the plot relatable and the growing friendships between the protagonist, Francesca, and her diverse set of peers left me with a goofy grin on my face.

Friends: Flat-Out Sexy I was recommended this book in Feb challenge and I really enjoyed the story.

Romance: Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans This is one of my favorite books.

Intense: Extreme ExposureThis book kept me on the edge of my seat.

Emotions: The Darkest Hour This book has a lot of emotion. It is gripping and intense and times but has it's tender moments.

New:Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye I really love this author and this mystery series.

Don't Forget: Kiss of Midnight I just finished this book, and enjoyed it.

Support: Torment I really enjoyed the first book of the series, but haven't gotten around to reading the second book yet.

Bonus: Little Earthquakes Focuses on a group of friends.

message 461: by Pam (new)

Pam | 1048 comments Tania-Picks for you

Friends--Moon Called I read this for an author challenge, then read the second for a Pick It For Me Challenge and am reading the third one now. They only get better. This is the first in the series.

Romance--From your TBR and one of my favorites What Happens in London

Intense--My Sister's Keeper Read this many years ago. Still my favorite Picoult. Couldn't put it down. Much better book then movie.

Emotions: Every Last OneThis book actually kept me awake at night I was so distressed

New--You have Jayne Castle on your TBR--try the author in her Amanda Quick persona...

Don't Forget: Try Nora Robert's Morrigan's Cross or Sea Swept The first more fantasy, the other contemporary. The Chesapeake Bay series is one of my favorite Roberts series.

Support: Things on your TBR I've been looking at, so would be willing to buddy read City of Bones or Desire Untamed whose author is apparently local to me.

Bonus: This was harder but from your TBR Cutting Loose which is three childhood friends grown up. This is the first book or on the male side from The Bastion Club The Lady Chosen

message 462: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 700 comments Hi Amethystprincess! I had a great time choosing some books for you. There weren't many books in your TBR shelf that I've read so I looked them over and tried to choose books I thought you would like. I saw a lot of young adult so I've included some of those although that is not primarily what I read. I hope you can find some that interest you.

Friends : pick a book that has been recommended to you by a friend
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marrilier - this is a young adult book based on an old fairy tale
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris - I love this whole series and I see that its on your TBR shelf.

Romance : one of your favorite romance books
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - this is one of my favorite books of all time!! It's very long, though, so kind of a commitment :)
The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt - this is a managable length and still a great romance book

Intense : difficult to put down , one of those ‘all consuming’ type books
Divine By Mistake by PC Cast - this is another young adult book. Its the first in a trilogy set in a mythological setting. I really loved the hero in this one!
Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison - this is more action/suspense/urban fantasy. Rachel Morgan is a strong, smart heroine. I'm currently reading the 9th book in the series and I have a hard time putting any of them down.

Emotions : any book that has evoked a strong emotional response to you
Dukes to the Left of Me, Princes to the Right by Kieran Kramer - I see you read the first book, When Harry met Molly. I think they are hilarious.
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks - not my usual book at all, total tear-jerker, but WOW! what an impact!

New : New, New, New - new author
I saw that you read all the Pink Carnation books so I think you will like these authors. I found these while I was waiting for Lauren Willig to hurry up and write another book!
And Only to Deceive by Tasha Alexander
Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourne

Don’t forget : this choice should come straight off their TBR, choose a book that has been hanging around for a while but that you feel should be bumped up
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
I haven't read this but its in my TBR pile since I couldn't resist it after reading the back.

Support : Buddy read - make a recommendation for a book that you will read with your potential new friend

The Orchid Affair by Lauren Willig - I have this one at the top of my pile right now. I love her books and I curious to see what happens with Collin and Eloise
Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley - I love anything Beauty and the Beast!
XVI by Julia Karr - I've put in my request for this one from the library since its a book of the month for another challenge. If you want to buddy read it, I can let you know when the library gets it in.

Bonus : Find a book that could be considered a book that is mainly about friends
Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas - Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite historical romance writers. This is the first in a series called the Wallflowers, about 4 women who are having a hard time fitting into the ton of London society. Of course they all get their HEA. They are all excellent!

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1471 comments Hello Rebecca T!! First off, let me tell you how much fun i had looking through your shelves!! its almost like a window to the soul! (since i cant see u! ^_^) I had a chance to get to know your literary preferences. I noticed you have this nice goth bive around ur lists..Y/A, PNR,Dystopia world.Books that are food for thought (as i label them). They were all very interesting to check out!!

I made two recommendations of each category, so you i can have a shot at getting it right! (i hope) :)

Friends : OK, so i know how many times this rec has been added over and over and over! BUT i can almost guarantee you that you cannot blame us once you have given it a chance. Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite PNR series!! i noticed they are in ur TBR list as well, so chances are, you will enjoy them.Hopefully as much as i did.

another book that has been brought to my attention several times by friends, and that is also in your TBR. Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #1) by Kristin Cashore Its very popular series, and it has a solid 4.5 stars with more than 2k ratings..

this is one of my all time fav books. the Genre is "magical realism" Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
it has a very nice balance of romance and mysticism that is quite popular in the south of USA. it really evokes great feelings.

ROMANCE : I noticed you just started to take up on romance rather recently. there are some chick-lit and contemporary books that you have enjoyed, so that was my base line for this books.

you have recently market TBR the "Chicago Stars" series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. However you listed book #2 and #3 ... but #1 was not in there. It is actually one of the favorites. It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips would be a nice way to start the series. However, if you had already decided you dont want to give it a go to this book then Heaven, Texas (Chicago Stars, #2) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips would be the next rec.

- Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis Is a another solid, well balanced romance novel.

Intense:

- If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman and Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson are both very gripping books. they showcase the many emotions, fears, and dreams that go through our once adolescent mind. they were both very well written, and have a poigant message to deliver.

Emotions: I found The Book Thief by Markus Zusak a Pandora`s box full of emotions for me to discover throughout the story. I love the way it was written and, knowing that even as circumstances, life, people change.. there those unspoken dreams and expectations that keep us fighting even in our darkest moments.

The same pattern follows with House Rules by Jodi Picoult . Jodi P always likes to pick controversial topics. And this one is no exception.Asperger’s syndrome has gained a lot of attention due to the high increment of diagnosis in the last decade or so. What made this book special for me is the relationship between mother and son. Jodi was very tactful yet mind conscious about the need of awareness in this field that has much more questions than answers..

New Im not sure if you are familiar with Pamela Clare`s work. Your TBR has some mystery genre in it, so i thought maybe romantic suspense could bring the best of both worlds ^_^. The "I-Team" series would be a great place to start. Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare is the first on the series.

another favorite among many of us.. is the "black dagger brotherhood" series by J R WARD.the first one in the series is Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward

Dont forget: - The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4) by Rick Riordan really caught my attention, and its been in your TBR since Nov 09.

- Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie is another book that i have heard a lot of.. its also been there since 2010.. ^_^

Support: i thought something along the lines of both our preferences could be: Everyone Loves a Hero ...and that's the problem by Marie Force for contemp romance and The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen for Y/A.

Bonus: Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie is a beloved chick-lit book! - Sex, Lies, and Online Dating (Writer Friends, #1) by Rachel Gibson is the first one on the "writer friends" series by Rachel Gibson.

Hope u have found something you like... remember you only have to read one. I just love giving variety to choose from.

Many (((((((huuuggs))))))))), and a pleasure to meet you.

Autumn,

That's strange that we don't coincide on more books since our tastes are so similar. Of course this means that you're filling my TBR shelf with books I'll like, since we agree so well on the books we've already read. Sounds like a great pairing to me!

I will definitely be reading the next book in the Highlander series. I don't believe in skipping around once I start a series. I might miss something.
I already Frostfire checked out of the library so I'll probably do that one first.
I have my request in for Dreams of a Dark Warrior but who knows when I'll get that. I'll let you know when it comes in and we can decide if we want to buddy up on it.

All of the other choices look good, too. I'm sure I'll read more but I have to work around what I can get from the library.

What great suggestions! I have added all of the ones that weren't there to my TBR list. I am going to start with
Vampire Academy because I actually have that out of the library now. I may even be able to read more than one because spring break is this month!!

message 467: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments moulin wrote: "I realize I am a newbie..but I tried to be thorough in my research. Enjoy!"

You did a fantastic job, they all look like excellent choices. Now I have to decide which one to read!

As You Desire has been recommended to me before but my library doesn't have it so it's on my list of books to look for at the thrift stores and used bookshops. There are a lot where I live so it shouldn't take me too long to find it but I won't start checking until my winter hibernation is over. We just got a pretty big snowstorm a few days ago but hopefully that's the end of it and I can get out again! :)

I love fairy tales, especially when new authors put their own twist on them, so I think I'll read The Storyteller's Daughter: A Retelling of "The Arabian Nights". I would like to reread The Arabian Nights Entertainments afterward since it's been so long I can't remember it. If I have time this month for another I may try Redeeming Love. I've never read a Christian or inspirational romance before so this would be pretty far out of my comfort zone but that's what makes this challenge so great - trying new things and finding new authors.

Thank you for the recommendations!

I was worried about you having read some of the picks already since it looks like you're still working on your "Read" shelf. I'm not sure if you found one you want to read in the first set of recommendations but I do have some more picks if you'd like a few more choices to make up for the ones you've read.

For "Friends" I read Sh*t My Dad Says as my PIFM read in January and it was by far the funniest book I've ever read.

My runner up for "Intense" was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The only reason I didn't pick it is because it starts a little slow but once it got going I wasn't able to put it down (I read it in one night).

For "New" (hopefully :) Vicki Lewis Thompson has a Nerds series of romantic thrillers with a fair bit of humour. Nerd in Shining Armor was my favourite.

For "Support" I also own but have yet to read No Man's Mistress, The Gilded Web, Dark Angel or Lord Carew's Bride if there are any of those you'd like to read with me.

And finally for the "Bonus" The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a good friendship story if you like YA.

Let me know what you decide to read and I hope you enjoy it!

message 471: by Leah (new)

Leah (leahkarge) Amanda--

Friends:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - This book was recommended to me by my friend Mary Kate, and I reluctantly read it. I'm so glad that I did because I loved it and the whole trilogy.

Romance: A Lot Like Love by Julie James - I recently discovered Julie James and read all four of her books. I just finished this one today and I absolutely loved it. You rated Something About You pretty high and so I think you might enjoy this one.

Intense: Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James - She's one of my new favorite authors and I absolutely could not put any of her books down.

Emotions: Seize the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon - This is one of my favorite of the Dark-Hunter books and it was a tearjerker and laugh out loud for me.

New: Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas - I noticed that you have this and one other of her books on your shelves but you haven't read them. She is one of my favorite authors, though, so I hope you would enjoy her :)

Don’t Forget: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead - This looks like one of the older books on your shelves.

Support: Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione - I'm just waiting for this to come in the mail! I'd be happy to read it with you.

Bonus: Already Home by Susan Mallery - This book focuses on all kinds of relationships, friendships among them.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins A Lot Like Love by Julie James Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione Already Home by Susan Mallery

Joyce (eternity21) | 739 comments Hi Moulin,
Here are your picks I hope you like them.

Friends : Dark Lover This book was recommended to me by a friend at work and I am hooked and have given my copy to a number of friends who all loved it too.

Romance : Outlander This book is a time travel romance that goes back in time. I have given this book out to people who don't normally read romance and they really enjoyed it enough to read the rest of the books.

Intense : A Knight in Shining Armor I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. It started my love of time travel romances.

Emotions : Message in a Bottle This book is a tear jerker but sooo good. Just make sure you have tissues handy.

New : Something from the Nightside I see you like some fantasy books but have not gone into the darker side of urban fantasy. This is a great start in that genre. Really great read.

Don’t forget : Confessions of a Shopaholic You have had this on your list for a little while (not too long since you are fairly new to Good Reads.) It is a fun read.

Support : Buddy read - Wicked Lovely I have been wanting to read this for a while now. I will read it with you if you pick this one.

Bonus : Undead and Unwed This book main character has her best friend to help her out when she finds out she is a vampire and dead.

I hope you find something here that you will like.

You're choices are amazing! And I want to read every last one. ;0) First, I will read Outlander. (I was coveting this one as a rec for myself!). Next, I'll tackle Dark Lover. Then I'll hole up one weekend and snack on A Knight in Shining Armor. But dessert is most assuredly Wicked Lovely. I'll leave Something from the Nightside if I have time! (this will be a superb twist on taste.)

Now where's the chocolate?

Eternal Rider is being acquired by my library, but I might just buy it and christen my ereader, so I'll keep you updated.

I'd love to read Valerius' story, but I'd hate to spoil the other two before that. For now, I'll pick up Secrets of a Summer Night. All the picks sound really good though! : (

Friends: If You Dare by Kresley Cole
I was recommended and read this for the last PIFM challenge and I liked it.

Romance: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
It's not my favorite romance book, but she is my favorite romance author. Her couples and romances are always developed well and I get really invested in the characters.

Intense: Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare
I picked this up on a whim - completely unexpected since I'm not a big contemporary romance fan - at a dollar bookstore and was surprised how much I loved it. The pace is great, the romance is fabulous, and she somehow made a politician endearing. ;p

Emotions: Fledgling by Octavia Butler
I'm not good with tear-jerker type books so I wouldn't know which to recommend, so I went with this one which was emotional in a different way; this book was good but it was more of a put me outside my comfort zone book.

New: Lover Unleashed by JR Ward
Ok, I know I'm stretching this definition of new pretty thin. However, I see that you enjoyed the BDB series too and this one just came out, so it's new. Besides, Ward is almost always a good pick.

Don't Forget: My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
I've never read a Jodi Picoult book, but this one has been in your TBR one of the longest times and you've rated other books by this author well.

Support: Something About You by Julie James
I saw that you read Just the Sexiest Man Alive and we both gave it 4 stars. I already have Something About You so if you want to read it I can start anytime you're ready.

Bonus: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill
In this series, there is a good friendship that is a rock for the heroine in times of need.

I hope you enjoy!!

Vi | 2794 comments Hey Rebecca,

Thanks for the recs! I appreciate that you have recommended many from my TBR (:. And some new books too!

One thing, I've read Vision of White. As did most of her books! I didn't update it in GR. No worries. That aside, I think I will read the following in the next 2 months :P

1. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
2. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
3. The Hunger Games

Also, I have this impression that Shiver is like a Twilightesque but with werewolves. Is it so?

And would you be up for a buddy read for the Kushiel's Dart? It's been on my TBR list for what seems forever. If you're game, then we can do it!

Option 2: Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson

Don't Forget:

Option 2: (from your TBR pile) Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare - this is the sequel to the Mortal Instruments, this is also a great book.
Option 3: I noticed you've read The Vampire Academy series if you love this series, you'll love Strange Angels by Lilith Saintcrow.
Option 4: (also from your TBR pile) Evernight by Claudia Gray - When you start this book you'll want to read the whole series.

Ceej (drqangel) | 1015 comments Fran,

I hope you enjoy these!

Friends : Diary of a Mad Fat Girl – Quick read. Funny and if you’re from the south, you might feel right at home.

Romance : Blue-Eyed Devil – I loved this book. Mostly because Kleypas dealt honestly with a sensitive subject but also because I love a wounded alpha male.

Intense : Crave – The first book, Covet, was so so. THIS one was what I expect of Ward.

Emotions : How to Kill Your Husband – recently bought this book because of the title. It was so funny and so real I couldn’t put it down. The thing I liked most was the friends of the heroine because one was the devil and one the angel

New : Nicholas - *I* love these books. Some people don’t. I think if you like erotica and you’re okay with edgy stories, then this might work for you.

Don’t forget : Causing Havoc – Someone recommended this to me in a PIFM challenge and I’m in now for the whole series.

Support : The Help – A friend loaned me this book and I’ve had it for a month. I keep putting other books in front of it.

Bonus : Getting to Happy – I didn’t enjoy this as much as Waiting to Exhale but it was still a good read.

Hi Teresa Jo!
Thanks for the good recs. I'm adding most of them to my wishlist!
I was already planning to read City of Fallen Angels, so this was perfect. I've never done a buddy read before, but I'm game if you are interested. I pre-ordered the book so I'm assuming I will get it a few days after the 5th.
