The Endurance: Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition by Caroline Alexander
A few years ago I read The Ice Child by Elizabeth McGregor in which the main character searches for her child's father in the Arctic. The story moves between her search and the Franklin expedition to the Arctic circle. I am fascinated by the expeditions these men carry out to these isolated environments such as the Arctic and Antarctic.

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king."
