Last year I read The Mammoth Book of Apocalyptic SF and I always wondered how far technology was and if the scenarios described in the book would actually be possible so for the challenge I listened to the audiobook of Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach. And I now know that escaping the world via space shuttles is still far off in the future.
