I've had a shitty time with paranormal YA novels lately. Because of that, I was totally expecting ATU to be a disappointment...but it wasn't. It was awesomesauce with a side of fantastawonderlicious. Told in present-tense alternate POVs from Elder & Amy, it's about a teenage girl who signed up to be frozen on ship set to land on another planet in 300 years & a teenage boy who was born & raised in space. I liked both Amy & Elder. Elder is your typical hormone-filled boy (meaning, he likes to look at boobies) who has a massive weight on his shoulder because he's the leader-in-training. Amy expected to wake up in 300 years to live with her parents in a brand new world. Instead, she was woken earlier & has to deal with life alone aboard a ship. I really felt her acute sense of isolation & claustraphobia & it about killed me. Yes, she acted like a crying idiot from time to time. But who wouldn't in her position? More important, she knew she was acting like a fool & tried her best to use her brain to figure what was going on around her. Lovely novel. Can't wait until 2012.
Oh & FYI, for those of you looking for a PNR YA novel, this is not it. The romantic elements are subtle.
Great review, Lethal! Love "fantastawonderlicious"!
I have this waiting and I've been looking forward to finally read it, so it looks promising. :) Glad you finally got some luck with the YA's!

Team 2!
Where are you?
How's everyone? This week was busy for me, so I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to check in so much.
I'm looking forward to the next shelf *coughwitchescough* so we can get another stamp *coughwitchescough* for a BINGO!
:)

The first nice suprise with this book was that it was set in Australia...something different....and it was in the Melbourne area (which I loved 'cause I'm a Melbourne girl).
The book follows Riley - a Dhampire (vampire/Were mix) who whilst trying to control her uncontrollable lust (thanks to the full moon approaching), is also trying to solve a problem with clones that have begun appearing.
Overall - it wasn't too bad a book. Although I'm always keen for a hot and heavy lusting book - this was never ending...even while she is getting beaten up she's just wanting to jump someone...so that wore a bit thin by the end.
Other than that it did provide good twists and turns and a great cliffhanger...
Which is why I will be changing my PNR shelf to

@ Kimberly: I was wondering the same thing. It's kind of dead around here when it isn't "new shelf day", it seems.
@ Shannon: Yay! I'm glad you liked your "Vampires" pick! I really enjoyed that series when I read it years ago. I'm off to change your PNR pick. Enjoy!

I suppose I could put some laundry away and go to be early instead of starting another book.
Here's my review for The Savage King http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/87...

Congrats on finishing your PNR book, Mary! BTW, could you link to your review or copy & paste it here? The link you posted only links to the book.
I concur. I've noticed that about challenges. In a perfect world, everyone would be laughing & having fun all the time in these challenges. I DO try to interact with all of my team members but...*shrugs*

This is a WINNING shelf for the Sixie Chicks!
Our Next Shelf is: 'fantasy-scifi'
DIRECT LINK: 'fantasy-scifi'
Reminder: All team 6 members must read, rate and review 'vampires' & 'fantasy-scifi' in order to win. If they do not complete their reads for both shelves prior to the next shelf announcement, another team has the chance to win.
Happy Reading! :)

You DO! ;) Your team is one of the most chatty this round, Miss Lethal. You've done great as a captain, IMO.

And thanks for the info, Steph. Here I go assuming the game was done because of the "WINNING" shelf but we still have a chance. Sorry, Team!

Rec'd:
Lethal: Beyond the Night
Kimberly: Born of Shadows
Shannon: Tempting Evil
Kristen: The True Meaning of Smekday
√Mary: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy-★★★★
Dana: Chains of Fire
√Rachel: Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception-★★★

And thanks for the info, Steph. ..."
No worries, you've done a great job. Just as we knew you would. Thanks for all you've done and keep doin'.
And, no apologies needed, easy to see 'winning shelf' and think game over. Just wanted everyone to know there's still a chance. It's a close one though. We'll just have to read and watch to see how it all plays out. :D
Come on team! :D I'm cheering for you (even if a bit silently at times.)
And Lethal you definitely done a great job as team leader! I had real fun! :) Until RL messed it up, but that's another story.

I slept for over 10hrs again last night. I hope I'm not coming down with something. I feel fine otherwise.

Yeah, new shelf!!! Although *sigh* my chicken for dinner method was ineffectual this time...no withces. Darn!
I was with Leathal when I saw the 'winning shelf' thing and even after finding out that Sixie Chicks had vampires to finish I figured it was a done deal. However, they still have five of the eight people who need to read vampires, so who knows? Could still have a chance! Here's hoping!
For this week's shelf put me down for

I'll feel like I won simply by reading a book for everyshelf called in time.

@ Mary: I hope you aren't coming down with something to. Being sick is a terrible thing.

☺ Likewise. If we lose tomorrow, I don't even care. I'm just happy to be apart of such a wonderful team & to meet such wonderful people. You ladies are awesome.
Good luck with your picks!

I've wanted to read this for years and I just downloaded it to my IPOD.

Oh, Mary! One of my all-time-favorites! I hope you enjoy it. :D

Ooh! That sounds very interesting, Mary! I've heard so many good things about that book. Good luck! ^_^

Yeah, like I said, bit of a addiction. Just a wee bit. LOL!
No matter what - Have a blast!! :D

Mary, I'm glad you're liking your book! I've never read it, but I hear it's good.
I'll be reading Some Girls Bite! YAY!!
Good luck team!

I'm assuming so since she's read her books for her other shelves. If I'm wrong, I'm sure she'll correct me. ☺
@ Dana: Yay for Vegas!
@ Mary: I'm glad you're enjoying your book!
@ Kimberly: Oh, I'm so jealous! I've wanted to read that book for FOREVER! Enjoy!

LOL Mary - me too. Although I buzz through all groups weekly. But, they are readin' fiends over there. Workin' hard for the win.

I'm going to read Born of Shadows instead.
Ok, back on track!
Go Team!!

@ Kimberly: I'm in the same position. My pick is kind of crap right now. I picked up two Gena Showalter books from the library today & I figured I could read one instead (since I saw a few on the new shelf). Turns out that someone added every book in her LOTU series to the shelf but the two I haven't read yet. So I'm stuck with the suck that keeps on sucking. *tear* I hope BOS works out better for you!

The second in the Riley Jensen Guardian series, and a great follow-on from Full Moon Rising.
I enjoyed this book more than the first, and there was significantly more 'dancing'....
What I enjoyed most about this book was that the scene setting by Keri Arthur was so sumptuous and complete. You understood and 'felt' the setting.
I also very much enjoyed the way the book finished...without a feel of completion, more like just the end of the chapter. I could imagine that this would be extremely frustrating if you were awaiting the next in the series...however I have several ready to go - so I'm eager to move onto the next of the series.
There is no shortage of hotties throughout the book - and I'm pleased to find that each of the hotties have some minor flaw (who wants perfection right!).
But my favourite aspect was the strength of Riley's character - and the fact that she doesn't take BS from anyone without giving it back!
On to the next.....
