Congrats on finishing your UF book & discovering a great author, Kimberly! That's one of the things I love about this challenge. You're pushed to read so many good books that you might not have otherwise.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I am almost finished with my UF book. I will probably finish it tomorrow. I might not see the new shelf announcement until late tomorrow. But I'll check in again tonight (hopefully to post my UF review) and I will try to check it tomorrow before I leave. But I might not have time.

LOL! Likewise, Mary. I think Steph has spoiled us into expecting early announcements. We'll just have to play the waiting game.

Yay for loving your UF book, Kristen! Have you read any other books by Black? I loved her "Modern Faerie Tales" series but have yet to read her "Curse Workers" one. I assume it's because I'm not a fan of male protagonists. But I'm very tempted to read it now.

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Finished my book for Urban Fantasy.

This Side of the Grave ★★½

Anyone who keeps up with Frost's "Night Huntress" series knows about the bullnasty that went down in Destined for an Early Grave with Cat & Bones. It didn't bother me as much as a lot of people I know, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. So I went into TSOTG hoping that C & B would be back to their usual selves. I kind of got what I was asking for.

This book, C & B spent the whole time giving each other cow-eyes & reassuring the readers that they are still in love. That's all fine & dandy-but I don't read this series for that. I read it for the action & kickassitude. Frost didn't deliver that IMO. Yeah, there was this plot with King Ghoul & teh ghosts but it became very tedious quickly. Instead of feeling joy that C & B were back on track, it felt like they were playing house. They went through this massive upheaval in their relationship & now they're back to kissing each other's asses like the crap never happened. TSOTG felt like filler. Not that I don't enjoy aimless plots from time to time, but I expected more from a Frost novel. Even if it was only to set the groundwork for another book, it should've still been entertaining & it was not. I'm over Cat & Bones for the moment. TSOTG was such a disappointment. *Lethal shakes head*

message 530: by Laura Lulu (last edited Apr 16, 2011 10:44AM) (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Thank you Lethal for confirming my decision to not read the latest C&B. I read a short that took place after the last book, and I found C&B's relationship to be utterly boring and cheesy as hell. It made me not want to read #5, and you've confirmed for me that Frost carries on with the cheesefest drivel.

I do believe I preferred C&B when Bones hated Cat. At least it was exciting & angsty. ;)

message 531: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments LOL! You're very welcome. I concur. C & B remind me a lot of Mer-Der from "Grey's Anatomy". They're so freaking back & forth. The first few times it was exciting, but after that I was like "Cut the crap & either stay together or get the fuck gone." I'm glad I got this book from the library instead of spending my precious cash.

To be fair, the blurb for One Grave at a Time sounds interesting. Maybe Frost found her muse again in that book & remembered what this series is really about...which is NOT C & B playing kissy-face.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yeay new shelf. OK off to see if any of the 3 books I wanted to read this upcoming week are shelved that by anyone.

I will probably use The Dead Room (Harrison Ivestigation, #4) by Heather Graham for paranormal-fiction. Not one of the 3 I was hoping would be on the shelf. But the next book in that series for me.

I'm going to read Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn or Frost Moon (Skindancer, #1) by Anthony Francis . Actually, I'm reading both but the one I use for this shelf depends on which one I finish first.

Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments My review for Urban Fanatasy shelf....
The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #4) by Laurell K. Hamilton

Finished: 13-04-2011
Rating: ★★★★

Another great book in the Anita Blake series.

Where it delivers well-
* Good suspense through-out, and not just all in one 'scene'; there are multiple mini suspense peaks through-out.
* The actual story line is not typical (girl meets boy, have a few issues, then happy-ever-after)...there's a bit of a CI twist.
* Great Characters - I love that Anita is tough and sassy and takes no BS from anyone. I love that she doesn't succumb to the male perfection that she is surrounded with. The male leads are great too.

When I struggled with it:
* Love triangles....really is there no other way??? Because I had read the twilight series, that aspect was pretty annoying to me.
* As great as Jean-Claude is, I wish he was a bit more manly...can't really describe it more, but it kinda grates on me a little.

Onto the next one :)

Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments For my Paranormal Fiction shelf I will be reading:
Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead

I added it to my 'currently reading' shelf on Friday, but have only read the first couple of pages....so great timing!

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Finished my book for Paranormal Fiction! I stayed up all night reading it.

Kitty Goes to Washington ★★★

Oddly enough, I didn't like this book as much as Kitty and the Midnight Hour-despite it having more action & intrigue. I think it had a lot to do with the "Washington Situation." To be blunt, it was hella boring. In the 1st book, Kitty was this pathetic sub who slowly started to grow a backbone. It was very interesting to read about. But here, I could give two shits about zealous senators & supes coming out of the closet. *yawn* I also thought the resolution to the "Smith" problem was very deus ex machina. Despite that, I did enjoy this book more towards the end. Kitty kicked ass, made new friends & even more enemies. I'll definitely continue this series. It may not be the best UF series I've read but it's far better than a lot I've come across over the years.

ETA: I just remembered that the first book I ever read for BSB (when I joined round 1) was "Kitty & the Midnight Hour." It's almost like everything has gone full circle. =)

Hi team! Finished my book for Paranormal Fiction and am reading my Urban Fantasy and Shifter books now. I'll probably finish the older shelf first though, so we can get that stamp.

Just wanted to officially say I'm sorry for being kind of absent during the last weeks. I'm kind of overwhelmed with everything going on, both with the finial weeks of school, our family and between myself and my boyfriend. It's just a lot. And last round I thought the two weeks were looong and thought one shelf per week would be a piece of cake, but I had way more time then. But I'm doing my best and have just started to get back into my 'reading mode' again. As a mood reader I have some trouble reading books I'm not in the mood for, especially if it's a lot going on around me, and I haven't really found those books for the later shelves, but like I said: I'm starting to come back now!

I hope I'm not dragging you down too much. You're an awesome team and doing soo good! Once again; I'm sorry!

I hope that this review is readable, I'm so tired right now after staying up until 6am last night (morning) reading. But here's a link: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Hang in there, Rebecca. I hate it when RL doesn't allow for reading time. Sounds like you got a lot goin' on. Got my stamp handy when you finish your others. :)
