Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I think young adult books are counted but not children's books. In other words- Harry Potter=okay to count, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom= not okay to count. But, maybe there's a different "official" policy. I'm kind of going off of what I've seen posted.

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments At one point I think we approved them. However, let me ask Sashana and Liasrenee. I will get back to you on that, Danie. Sorry we skipped you!

message 210: by Danie (new)

Danie (heyydanie) | 66 comments Alright, thanks so much guys! So basically chapter books are okay, but board books and things that he'd read don't count. Rats. That would put me almost at 100, hahah! His parents lucked out, getting a kid who loves to read as much as he does.

message 211: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Yes, board books and small picture books are out.

That's awesome that he loves to read especially that young! Keep reading with him and before you know it, you WILL be able to count the books on your challenges! ;)

message 216: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I like your legend, Shay. Just out of curiosity, what's your current page count so far?

message 217: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I'm at 23,960 for 2011. I did the different symbols as motivation because if I read more "fluff", like I usually do, I'd be at around 100 books right now. So, I like seeing how much "real" books relative to fluff.

message 218: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I kind of feel like a slacker now, most of the books I read are around 350 pages (on average). So I'm stuck in the fluff zone. I'm going to start a new thread where our members can tell us their current page and book count.

message 219: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I don't usually keep track of pages. I don't usually read stuff that's more than 400 pages. I just don't have the patience for those epic books anymore.

The book has to be really good for me to want to read that many pages. Besides the Harry Potter books and the Eargon books I don't think I've ever truly read a 'long' book.

Well, as good as it was, I swear Truman was like the 10 longest books combined. But, Pillars of the Earth- I was sad when it ended and wished it was longer. The worst is a mediocre book, like Little Dorrit, that's long.

message 222: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Shay, I tried reading The Idiot and I know I could've finished it if it wasn't so damn long. I've read longer books but it was boring and I didn't understand the beginning of the book with the train conversation. It was just a disaster from the beginning. On the other hand I finished Paradise which was more than 700 pages and I really enjoyed it. I guess I have to find the 'right' book if I'm going to spend so much time reading it.

message 223: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Does the book have to have a certain minimum page count? For example, I just finished a Harlequin Mini which is apparently an e-book exclusive. It does not appear to have a page number, and it is more like a short story or novella so it is very short. Would it still count in this particular challenge?

It's really up to you, Niquae. As far as implementing a rule on how many pages a book should have Lisarenee and I have never talked about it. That is for the members to decide. Personally I read Shit My Dad Says which had less than 200 pages and I still counted it.

message 226: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I didn't think of this as really a challenge with conditions to meet. But more of a personal challenge to see how many levels we can get through. I count everything. Although I wouldn't count each individual story of an anthology but just the anthology as a whole. But that's just me. And that would mostly be out of laziness and only wanting to add one book. I know some people count Manga and I have used a couple of graphic novels.

Thanks for your replies, Mary and Sashana. The book I had in mind was actually a short story that was like a 10-minute read so I don't think I will count it. In another year-long reading challenge I am in, only books with 100+ pages are allowed so I think I will stick with that.

Sans I'm echoing how amazing Annie's Song was. I read it early last year and I still think about it.

Be sure you have them on hand if you're going back into that world, especially if you're like me and read them one after the other: the third and fourth book especially have the worst cliffhangers!!! What can I say, lol... patience is not my strong suit!

Lol.. sounds familiar! That's why I waited till book 5 came out before starting the first book.. I read the first, had to wait a week for books 2-5 and read them in 24hrs!!:-D

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Annie's Song by Catherine Anderson was one of my favorites of all time.

I wasn't gaga over the 1st 2 Fever books by KMM. But I just read Faefever and now I can't wait to read the last 2. The only reason I haven't started the 4th is because of other challenge books I need to read.

It really looks like I'll have to get around to reading Annie's Song then! everyone loves it:-D

I've never been able to get through the 1st book of the Fever series. I'm glad I didn't give up, they are getting better.

Really? I loved it, although I did find there were a couple unresolved issues/questions I would have liked to know more about, and I was disappointed the series ended.. What didn't you like about it (in general, I don't want to spoil it for anyone else!)

message 250: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Melanie, I think I built it up to much in my mind while I was waiting for it to be released.
