January - Pick It For Me Challenge

Here are my recommendations for you:
A.1.Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles - I see that you like YA books and romances so this one should be a very enjoyable read
2. Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill - A vampire book that has a little bit of everything in it, action, romance and a good dose of humor
3. The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud - I was recently reminded of this series and I have so many good things to say about it that it just had to be on the list! It's a refreshing book that made me laugh out loud!

B.1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - This one may not have the most pages compared to other books in your TBR, but it's still got enough to be in this category and after reading recently, I can recommend it without second thoughts
2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling - This one is a classic and even though you might find it a little childish, the series get darker and darker as you go on so just stick with it ;)
3. The Cupcake Queen by Heather Hepler - This one is one of the first you added in your list and since you obviously enjoy cupcakes, you'll enjoy this one!

And finally, after some thought, the last two:
C.1. I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter - A fast-paced YA with spy girls- doesn't it sound like fun?
2. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs - A more adult read set in a world full of supernatural beings...

I tried to have the books vary from one another so you can find something you'll enjoy in there somewhere... If you want a couple more, I already have a few that just barely missed the cut! ;)
Happy reading!

Wow! I have been lost in your lists for what seems like hours. Gotta love a girl who loves Chris Crutcher!
So
Try Something New
1. New Author--Anne Stuart (Ice series) or Kasey Michaels
2. New Series--Christina Skye Either Draycott Manor or Code Name
3. New Genre--You have little horror. Not my favorite genre but one of the scariest books I ever read was The Exorcist
Better You
1. Lose Weight--Best rated book in your top ten TBR longest books Bitten
2. Save money--from your own pile (and very short) The Courage of Sarah Noble I'm not sure some of the old Newbery Honor Books hold up...
3. Get Organized--One of the oldest on your list is The Duke of Shadows
Just for Fun--
You have A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail on your list. This books makes me laugh out loud every time I read it. I first "read" the audio version and we used to use it as part of our English curriculum so I've had to reread it several times. I don't know if it's the former scout leader in me or what but I love this book.
Another book that made me laugh out loud Julia Quinn's What Happens in London
And because I can never just stop...Sherman Alexie The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

You have a lot of books on your TBR shelf, but I have not read most of them, so it took me a while. I tried to do a variety, and hope you find some good books among the choices.
A. Something New
1) New Author: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
2. New Series: I noticed you've read Nora Roberts, but not her Three Sisters Island trilogy, so start with Dance Upon the Air. The women are good witches, so there's some magic in the story.
3. New Genre: I didn't see any cozy-mystery books on your shelves, so I'm suggesting Aunt Dimity's Death by Nancy Atherton. It's the beginning of a series, but the story stands alone, so you can enjoy it without having to read more unless you want to.
B. Better You
1. Lose weight: The lengthy tomes I was going to suggest have average ratings below the stated amount (lucky you!), so I'm choosing Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver at 472 pages, with an average rating of 4.11
2. Save money: You read the first two books of Nora Roberts' Bride Quartet, so I'm recommending Savor the Moment to continue the series. If by chance you've already read that one, then go on to Happy Ever After.
3. Get organized: Among the oldest-on-your-TBR books you have A Tale of Two Cities, so here's your chance for this 'best of times, worst of times' story.
C. Enjoy LIfe More
1. The Princess Bride - if you enjoyed the movie, read the book and then watch the movie again
2. Reforming a Rake - this is book #1 of Suzanne Enoch's With This Ring series. It stands alone, but if you like this one, be sure to continue the series - they're lighthearted fun.
So there's your list of 8. Hope you enjoy reading one or more from this list!

here are my picks for you :) i stuck with romance this time around. hope you are able to find something interesting!
A. Try Something New
1. New Author: The Duke by Gaelen Foley
2. New Series: Pack Challenge-Shelly Laurenston is hilarious!
3. New Genre: M/M The Dickens With Love-i saw that you had read some of lauren dane's brown siblings series which, if i recall, hints at some guy on guy action.
B. Better You
1. Lose Weight: Paradise-i have no idea how this book is, but it seemed highly reviewed.
2. Save Money: Kiss of Midnight-this was the only book or your 'to-read' shelf that i had already read...i liked it.
3. Get Organized: Tithe-i figured you might not want to go with 'gone with the wind' :)
C. Enjoy Life More
1. Dragon Actually-again, shelly laurenston is hilarious(she's writing as ga aiken here...)
2. I'll Be Your Drill, Soldier-if you find yourself at all intrigued by m/m, give this book a shot. disregard the cheesy title. this is one of my favorite m/m's ever :)

So glad to be picking for you! I really hope I get a good one for you.
A. Try Something New
1. New Author: Simply Irresistible by Rachel Gibson - Rather sur..."
Thanks for the great picks, Jim. I've put both Simply Irresistible and Just the Sexiest Man Alive on hold at the library. There's no one in front of me for either one, so I should have them both in a few days. Maybe not in time for Jan 1st, but probably by Jan 3rd. Then I'll see how the rest of the month shapes up. I'll let you know when I start the Julie James

Well, I hope you find something that you like. If not, I'll be happy to pick for you again.
Something New
New Author from your TBR: Sunshine by Robin McKinley
New Series: (Your TBR)City of Masks by Mary Hoffman or (New to you completely) Graceling by Kristin Cashore
New Genre: (Suspense/Sci-Fi) Naked in Death by JD Robb- recently recommended to me and I really liked the book. I'll definitely continue with the series.
Better You
Lose Weight: One More Bite by Jennifer Rardin
Save Money: Covet by JR Ward
Get Organized: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins- I noticed that you started the series. So, I'm suggesting the next in the series.
Enjoy Life More
I noticed that you read mostly PNR and YA so, I wanted to recommend:
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (recommended to me often, haven't read it yet) or Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (YA and a sweet love story)
In case you're looking for something completely new to you:
Duncan's Bride by Linda Howard
A really sweet love story with a strong awesome heroine. Probably one of my favorites, if not my favorite love story.
Happy Reading! Let me know which one you've decided to read.

I also discovered that you are a fond fan of Neil Gaiman.. and so am i!! :) i will have 2 picks from him since you are currently reading "American Gods".
-Neverwhere: If you enjoy the current read, then this book is right up your alley! Its one of my favorite books from him.
-The Graveyard Book its spooky, witty, funny and eccentric. its very much the essence of Neil G. I think you would enjoy it.
- The Alchemist: You have one Paulo Coelho, and you gave it a good rating. The alchimist is his most famous book yet, one that i think infuses a beautiful tale of magic and wisdom.

Thanks, Annabell. It's funny you said you didn't see any historical fiction. Years ago I only read historical fiction and non-fiction. Then I discovered the concept of reading for fun instead of knowledge and went a little crazy. =) Now it's all at the very end of my read list. I've been wanting to get back into it so I'll definately see if I can get that book.
All you're recommendations look great. I'll definately be reading The Ex Games since I have to in another group, but I'm going to try and get to one or two of your other recommendations as well. Library pending... =) I like Rizzoli and Isles so maybe I'll try and sneak that one in there.

Thank you for the wonderful suggestions. A lot of them look so good! Halfway to the Grave, Dark Lover and Wings all look very good. I will probably go with the 3rd book in the Vampire Academy series since I already own it and I really love this series. So I will go with Shadow Kiss and if I have time, see if I can read the others too. Thank you.

Wow, when I first saw your TBR, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to find anything new for you. It is massive and full of great books! But I did manage to cull down my picks and I hope you find..."
Wow Diane... I have no idea which one I'll read, they all sound wonderful, thank you so much!!
Maybe Glory in Death or The Spellman Files... I'll let you know!
Hold on a few mins, I'll post your recs in while.

A. Try Something New
1. New Author: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa, since you seem to like YA, I would recommend this great fantasy story I enjoyed.
2. New Series: Moon Called, I recently discovered this author during the Feature Author Challenge. I really enjoyed Cry Wolf, which is related to the Mercedes Thomspon series. In Cry Wolf, some of the characters mentioned Mercedes and I am planning on reading this series.
3. New Genre: Homicide In Hardcover, this cozy mystery is a quick and fun read. The heroine is quirky and loves books.
B. Better You - From their TBR
1. Lose Weight: Shadow Souls
2. Save Money: Halfway to the Grave, this is my favorite urban fantasy series.
3. Get Organized: City of Ashes, maybe it’s time to get back to this series?
C. Enjoy Life More
Magic Bites, this is a very well written and captivating urban fantasy. Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, I just discovered this indy writer and devoured this and the 2nd book in 2 days.

Try Something New
1. New Author- Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James.
This book was a total surprise, it was sweet and sexy and very easy to read, if you’re in the mood for a contemporary romance, try this one.
2. New Series- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.
This is a big book but it’s totally worth it, it’s the story of Claire and how she’s sent to the past where (or when) she meets Jamie *sighs with dreamy eyes*…
3. New Genre- Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind.
One of my favorite books of all times, I read this one when I was in high school and it made an impression… I keep re-reading it from time to time.
B. Better You - From their TBR
1. Lose Weight- The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams.
I haven’t read this one but has great reviews and it’s been in your TBR for a while.
2. Save Money- PS, I Love You by Cecilia Ahern.
Awwww!, I just read this book a few weeks ago and ooh my God, it is such a wonderful story! It’s very similar to the movie but not quite the same… Gerry, Gerry, Gerry….
3. Get Organized- Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop.
Another one I haven’t read but it caught my interest, with great ratings and wonderful reviews.
C. Enjoy Life More
1. Midnight's Daughter by Karen Chance.
This is the first book of the Dorina Basarab’s series and it’s related to the Cassandra Palmer’s one, great new characters and an improvement in the writing style.
2. Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
I loved this book, seriously!, the writing, the plot, but most of all, the characters: Daisy is a spoiled girl, but very very funny and super sweet, she ends up married to Alex who works in a circus and is a hard hearted guy with no sense of humor whatsoever… until he meets Daisy.
I hope you find something you like... let me know what you'll be reading.

Well, I hope you find something that you like. If not, I'll be happy to pick for you again.
Something New
New Author from your TBR: Sunshine by Robin McKinley
New Series..."
Hey Gigi, I guess it is time for me to update my TBR list. I have read about half of what you recommended. I am not a big fan or weres so Bitten and Shiver are out. I have read Covet, One More Bite, Naked in Death, and Catching Fire. So that leaves Sunshine (which I know I can get at the library), City of Masks (which I own, I just have to find it), Graceling, and Duncan's Bride. I'll let you know what I pick in a few days.
Gigi, I picked Sunshine. Yay, cant't wait to start. I requested it from my local library and it should be available for pick up in a few days.

A. Try Something New
1. New Author: Jennifer Rardin I really like her Jaz Parks series. Once Bitten, Twice Shy is the first book in the series.
2. New Series: Kiss of Fire
I added it to my TBR shelf because it sounds like I would enjoy it.
3. New Genre: I noticed you had only 1 book on your biographies self so here 1 that I enjoyed: Same Kind of Different As Me.
B. Better You -
1. Lose Weight: So, I think I picked the longest book on your TBR shelf, but just think of how great you will feel after you are done, The Fiery Cross. If you are looking for something a little shorter, then try Kristin Lavransdatter.
2. Save Money: So I have read the first 5 books in this series, but I really like them. Judgment in Death
3. Get Organized: This book has been on your shelf for almost 2 years All Through the Night.
C. Enjoy Life More
1. Gena Showalter has some good humor. I laughed all the way through Playing with Fire.
2. I also like Jeaniene Frost. Bones can be pretty funny. The first book in her series is Halfway to the Grave.

I hope you enjoy the books I have picked for you!!! Here is your list:

Thank you for all the recs :) I'm sure I will be able to grab a hold of all eight books as I have 3 different librarys that I can go to and I'm sure between them all I will get everything!

It is obvious that you like paranormal books, I myself find some of them really enjoyable to read as well as you can see from my lists... here is what find for you, hope you like at least one of them:) I have added my personal thoughts and views about the books as well maybe that will help you to chose ...
A. Try Something New
1. New Author: & 2. New Series: How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks I have seen this series in your TBR, well maybe they are not the best series but they are definitely fun, moving and easy to read. Less violent even though it still contains a bit of a war in between two sides... They are like chick-lit books with vampires :)
3. New Genre: Fatal Convictions by Randy Singer - well I have seen Always Watching in your TBR list and was not very sure if it contained paranormal activity in it so I took base from this one and made a search for a thriller as well similar subject etc and found this one with quite reviews.
B. Better You - From their TBR
1. Lose Weight: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling - I noticed you have already read the first five so this is pretty eligble with 600 something page in your TBR for this category
2. Save Money: Lover Avenged by JR Ward - I have read the whole series and liked them all, the best thing I like is even every new book is for a another member of the brotherhood the rest of the team is never forgetten and there is a whole to the story with everyone of them involed. There is a continous story set up for the whole serie.
3. Get Organized: Hunted by PC Cast
C. Enjoy Life More
1. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella - thought you might enjoy to try chick-lit for fun :)
2. Mr. Maybe by Jane Green

Well, I hope you find something that you like. If not, I'll be happy to pick for you again.
Something New
New Author from your TBR: Sunshine by Robin M..."
Uh-oh, don't decide yet. I'll come up with a few more suggestions and post them later today.

I find myself very atracted to the novels " Skin Game " and " Ruthless Game " *laughs* . I guess these are my next --victims :))
Hello LethalLovely
These are my picks for you :
A. Try Something New-
#New Author - I see that you haven't yet discovered the enchanting writing of Nora Roberts. She's got many books that I absolutey adore , many of them depict very well the magic in the world . You should try the first book of a trilogy that I loved : Dance Upon the Air
#New series - Kathleen Korbel and her series Daughters of Myth , first book Dangerous Temptation---Fairies all the way , I'm usually very sceptic about Fairy Books but this one was actually very good , the modernism and the magic blend really nice :) It seemed so real .
#New Genre - I would say that you need some suspense romance and I have just the book or series , depends on how much you'll enjoy it :) Hiding in the Shadows (Shadows, #2) by Kay Hooper
B. Better You - From their TBR
1.Lose weight - Demon from the Darkby Kresley Cole , trust me , it's soo worth your time . It's like : " Lonely Demon , you need me so much , you just don't know it " *sigh*
2.Save Money - Pack Challenge by Shelly Laurenston - very funny . This writer usually has such sense of humor :)
3.Get Organized - Harmony's Way by Lora Leigh , it's been so long since it's in your TBR list , you should know that the heroine is very strong-willed and unusual.
C. Enjoy Life More
1.I've noticed that Dragon Actually is in your TBR but I won't pick it for you . My favourite was About A Dragon . Just read the resume and you'll understand why :)
2. Savage Thunder Strong heroine , stubborn , suffering male , 1878 , very interesting plot .
I hope you like my picks and I wish you a Happy New Year !

Really interesting picks. Bachelor Unleashed has been on my list so long because I put it there as soon as I found the publish date (Dec 1 my birthday lol). I would love t..."
Duh, sorry about the JR Ward rec, I guess I should have researched that further! I like your pics though, hope you like the SBC Fighters series. Can't wait for your reviews!

New Author:

Thanks Heather! You have a lot of good recommendations!
I will for sure get to Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3), since I need it for another challenge and I think I already have it from the library actually. I also intend to read Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. I have been on the waiting list for about 4 months now, and I think I'm down to #1 or #2, so I should get it this month or the next maybe. All of the others you recommended I will add to my tbr list, but I don't know if I will get to them this month.

Thanks, Annabell. It's funny you said you didn't see any historical fiction. Years ago I only read historical fiction and non-f..."
I kind of went through the same thing. I do really like historical fiction. I never really got into the paranormal until I started this group. I never thought I would like it, but I absolutely love it!

I had soooo much fun digging through your TBR shelf (found some books to add to mine)!! I hope I picked something you might like.

Love the recommendations, Megan.
I think I'm going to go for [book:Pride Mates since I have the book on hand. Then I'm going to see if I can get Midnight's Master from the library. I know its about time I should read Nioll's story.
If I have time still, I will try to squeeze in Zoe Archer's Warrior.
The rest are going to my TBR shelf until I get to them.

Thanks DG, for hosting this month! I loved the pairing!!

I have read Naked in Death (and loved it!) but realized I had not marked it as "read"! So any other suggestions you have for a new series, please let me know!!
I also had picked to read Dark Lover for the Jan. Monthly Challenge! I'm looking forward to reading that series!!!
Thank you for all the great picks!!! I will probably end up reading them all :) ."
Well, if you are open to another series, here is one that is complete, C.L. Wilson's Tairen Soul 5-book series. First book is Lord of the Fading Lands.
Happy reading!

Lili,
Thanks for the great picks. I'm probably going to go with Midnight's Daughter or Daughter of the Blood. I'm adding Just the Sexiest Man Alive to my wishlist (which already has Kiss an Angel) and if I find either of them next month (I'm trying to only buy used), there's a good chance they will be read as well.

Try something new
New Author Gail Carriger's Soulless. A steam punk, werewolf, vampire tale with a lot of humor and action with a little mystery for fun!
New Series Shakespeare's Landlord by Charlaine Harris.
New Genre Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen this books has magic realism. It is a fun light read and nothing looks similar in your TBR.
Better You
Lose Weight The lengthiest book in your TBR with has 1,153 pages I am not even going to try to compete. So I will pick The Book Thief by Markus Zusak which has a rating of 4.34!
Save Money The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I just finished this book which is about a white woman who writes a book about the lives of black maids in the 1960's in Mississippi.
Get Organized You have 2 books that are on your TBRs that are dated January 9, 2009. L.A. Dead by Stuart Woods and Rose Madder by Stephen King.
Enjoy Life More
Heat Wave by Richard Castle, I have not read this book but I LOVE to watch the series, which has always made me want to read this book just for the fun of it!!
Dream Man by Linda Howard. This book is not on your TBR and I thought it might be fun to try something very different for you. It is a suspense romance, with a heroine that has clairvoyant powers and a detective in the Orlando police department.
I hope you find something that interests you, if you don't please do not hesitate to let me know and I can pick some new choices. Happy reading and a very Happy NEW YEAR!!

I'm so sorry Inga! It didn't even occur to me to check that. And yes, that's a series I'm reading as well. I am so sorry about that. I'm glad you did find one of the recommendations to read.
As for the first person narration, I think once you get into the book you don't even notice it. The only time it really hits me (moving back and forth either way), is when I finish one type of book and immediately pick up another and I have to readjust my thinking to get into a story. I just had to do that a couple of days ago. But once I was into the new story, I didn't have a problem with it.

1,153 pages? OMG, I never even noticed that. ouch.
I'm thinking I'll read LA Dead or grab The Help from our church library, since I've seen it there recently. That may be easier to find than looking through all of my bins for LA Dead. :)
Thanks for helping my indecisive self!

We're quite opposite in our tastes, but I was able to pull some choices. Hope you like what I picked.
New Author: Blood Red by Heather Graham. This was my first vampire read and I liked it, light on the romance. It's actually part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.
New Series: A Living Nightmare. This sounded pretty good.
New Genre: Moonlight Becomes You I really liked this one, good suspenseful thriller.
Lose Weight:Stolen You had some real chunksters but I went easy.

Thanks Pam! Great recs. I'm with you on the horror thing - trained by my mother who couldn't even pick a horror book up, I mean literally couldn't touch one. This is the woman who read all Dennis Wheatley's satanic novels. Go figure.
I completely *heart* Chris Crutcher!
Next step is going through the library catalogue & figuring out what I can my hands on.
I'll keep you posted.

You're most welcome, Ari - they're very different reads, but I think you'll enjoy them both.

Thanks for the recommendations, Ladykati -
I'm going with Judgment in Death & perhaps also Kiss of Fire, which I've put in challenges for the past 3 months & then replaced with something newer!
I like Connie Brockway, so I don't know why I keep putting off reading All Through the Night, so thanks for the reminder there. And if I have time, I may pick up Halfway to the Grave. Jeanine Frost would be a new author to me.

I changed most of the picks, but some I left the same. Hopefully this take two is better, but if not third's always a charm!
A.Try Something New
1. New Author:
Dream Boy by Jim G.
2. New Series:
Tiger Eye by Marjorie M. Liu. It’d be interesting to read her stuff she’s a newer and younger author.

B. Better You - From their TBR
1. Lose Weight:
Fishing for Stars. Hopefully, you’ve not read this. Even longer than the other one. Muwhahaha. 602 pages.

Thank you very much for the recs, Selena! They all seem very interesting. I think I'm going to go with Pack Challenge. It's a Kindle freebie & I'm always looking for an excuse to try out my new ereader! =) I'll also make a note to read the 2nd book in the Dragon Kin series first, since in your opinion, it's better than About a Dragon. Again, thanks!

A. Try Something New
1. New Author: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater this is an exceptional novel. I hope you like it as much as me.
2. New Series: Marked by P.C. Cast This is a good start to a good series.
3. New Genre: The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory This 'historical fiction' book was fab.
B. Better You - From their TBR
1. Lose Weight: Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell I have not read this book myself yet but will do in the new year.
2. Save Money: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith It was a great concept and very funny
3. Get Organized:
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
C. Enjoy Life More
1. The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong The plot was great, characters were great and I would reccomend this book to people who want a light fantasy read.
2. A Quick Bite by Lynsay Sands A great tale which you can sink your fangs into!

You have sooooo many books and are so well organized. I just joined in December and my lists are still somewhat a mess. I hope I did this right and picked some good options for you.

Thanks, Brodie! I can't wait until January to start reading - I am going to try to get to most of these if possible.
