There seems to be some background as to what 'breeds' actually are, but it was recapped briefly and clearly throughout the book. I did not feel like I missed anything. Now I am going to go back and start reading book 1, 'Tempting the Beast.'(less)

I made it to 30% before giving up. this book is too gross for me. the frothing, creamy, honey, "cunt" juices were just too much for me since the plot/characters were also boring me into a coma.

Tempting the Beast is a lesson in how not to write romance or a book in general. Editors do an important job and I wish a good one had worked on this, heavily.

Originally read Mar 2011:
I think I feel a little dirty after reading this! That's not to say I didn't enjoy it...it was just a little...unexpected. Lora Leigh is a naughty NAUGHTY writer who can sometimes really hit the spot with me, but other times she shocks me and leaves me a little speechless.

I can only conclude by saying that I have already bought the next two in the series...make what you will of that!

Breeds 1
Feline Breeds 1
Featured Couple: Callan Lyons (Lion) & Merinus Tyler (Human)

The Breeds series in the first years of 2000 has brought some of the most original concepts in Paranormal Romance. The main characters are basically human-like animals or animal-like humans and they are the results of experiments. Outside they look completely human, they don’t shift (these are not shifters’s books!), they are part of the human society until their existence is discovered. Breeds are partly anim

This book was better than I'd expected. I really liked the story around the Breeds "creation" - it was a bit out there sometimes but, hey, it's PNR so not everything has to make complete sense, right? LOL

As for the very steamy sex scenes, the barb thing was too weird for me, but I somehow managed to "erase" it from my mind... I think.

Even though I've only read this one book so far, I feel I'm going to become addicted to this series. I just have got to know what's going to happen with all the Bre

The beginning of the adventure for Merinus Tyler and Callan Lyons has been re-released with a new shiny book cover.
This is my favourite couple from the Breeds series and Callan is the ultimate "Lion King" of the Breeds.

The book was out of print for some time now, so if you wanted to read it and you couldn't now it's your chance ;)

4 ROARING STARS

Can't give it 5 stars because it ended on a cliff of sorts. This story will grow and keep ongoing until the situation is resolved.

In this book we start the series with the story of Callen the lion laced genetic experiment that escaped from the confines of a secret lab. He and a group of half felines breed experiments are trying to find a semblance of a life now within society.
However, in order to live free they must testify to the monstrosities that have happened to them to t

When I put this series on my TBR list I didn't realize that it started out as erotica. Not that I have a problem with erotica; I am a huge perv after all. I just wasn't prepared for the level of hotness. Then I checked the book out from the library (yes they had erotica at my library) and realized that it was an Ellora's Cave book. I knew then that I would probably really like the book cause again, I am a perv and this is smutty paranormal goodness. Holy frakkin hotness, Batman!! This book was s ...more

Tempting The Beast starts out with Merinus Tyler arguing with her testosterone loaded male family members that she is capable of tracking down Callan Lyons, a genetically modified male who could become the investigative story of the century. She argues that as a woman she can get Callan to talk to her. Understandably, her brothers and father are not excited by her logic. However, Merinus has been half in lust with Callan since the moment she saw his photo and can't deny this inexplicable pull to ...more

I really wanted to like this series. But it is not for me. I need something more than sex to like a book. It was like reading the same thing over and over again. The things that were happening felt like added just to have something more than sex in it.

There was not a real conection between the characters. And it is not that I don't like strong and very possesive males. I do. And I love it when the male feels this strong conection with the girl without even having talk to her. But in this book th

Recommends it for: Fans of PN Erotic Romance & Extreme Alpha Males
So many people have raved about the Breeds series and Lora Leigh's writing in general that I finally had to try it out. In many ways, I can certainly see why fans enjoy these so much. I thought the premise was very creative and unique, something I've never seen in a romance novel before. I kept thinking as I read it that this is the stuff that great sci-fi movies are made of. It definitely held my attention, but I found myself wishing the author would tell me more about the Breeds and their back ...more

So, moving on. This is the first book in the breed series. And after so many great reviews I could hardly contain my excitement when I started reading.

I have to agree that the story has ALOT of potential.

So obviously this is erotica, and I realize erotica is pretty subjective and hard to grade. But to me, this was just bad.

The premise was actually somewhat promising. Callan is one of several genetically manipulated humans--he has lion DNA in his genome--who are all part of some top secret highly unethical experiment. Merinus is a journalist who is eager to expose what was done to Callan and his fellow "Breeds", and requires his cooperation. They meet, sparks fly in a big way, and we find out tha

Tempting The Beast is H.O.T.

Callon Lyons, the hero, is indeed "uber" Alpha (his genes were spliced with a lion, of course he's alpha,) and I was hooked from the beginning scene.

Merinus, the heroine, is an excellent match for Callon's overbearing ways, and finds ways of asserting her independence with a man who needs to be dominant. But in the end, it's her willingness to compromise that prooves her love for him. Surprisingly, I found the domninant/submissive thing to be the undelying texture to

Whoa! That was pretty damn hot! There was lots of Rawwwwwr times.. and he had special barb that came out and latched on to her g-spot which made things pretty interesting... there was an actual story line surrounding all of the sex and there was LOTS of sex. But I enjoyed this one! I'll for sure read the next one.. even if the ebooks are priced a little too high imo...

Not sure where my head is at, I’ve been trying paranormal erotica. I’m not sure if it’s my jam yet, but it’s different from my usual slow burn reads.

This one was pretty frustrating with a ridiculous Heroine. She’s pretty young and dumb. But the steam is hot and it’s filled with steam. I would say a good 70% of the book is steamy. It’s not really kinky, but it’s smut.

Callan was experimented on and he isn’t a human, but part beast. Merinus is a reporter, but she could have been anything,

To be perfectly honest, this book is all about the sex. Do not be fooled by people who say they read this for the story, which is the equivalent of men saying they read Playboy for the articles.

Few authors have been recommended to me more than Lora Leigh and based on such things as the cover of this book, I have avoided reading anything by her. I have also tired of romantic/erotic/paranormal cliched series, dropping such authors as Kenyon and even Ward, though I will pick up the latter again som

I really wanted to like this, as I normally love books about alpha males claiming their "fated" mates, and this one had a nice sci-fi twist that they are on the run from the cruel Council that created them.

However; there was too much sex and too little substance, I like a good sex scene I don't like one every other page, as after a while it loses its power, I found myself skimming these scenes towards the end as frankly I was bored of them. I know this is erotica but it seemed such a waste of a

The first book in Breed series that features genetically engineered soldiers, scientists playing God, secrets, fighting and lots of sex. If any of the above triggers you or you are bothered by somewhat dubious consent (whatever happens to each new couple is explained throughout the series), if pushy men annoy you, then skip it. Did I say there's lots and lots of sex? I did? Okay then.

I found it entertaining enough to continue with the rest of the series. Sometimes the story and the characters we

Skimmed to the end. This was just straight up porn which I'm not against but it's not what I was looking for. Callan was sort of an asshole and not the fun kind. They were going along and along and then suddenly BAM! The "I love yous" came out of nowhere. Fucking annoying. Then there was butt sex and then the final battle took literally less than a paragraph. (I'm not counting the monologuing). Didn't hate it but still was not good.

Take my advice and start with the first book in the Breed series. It’s a deliciously yummy romance. Tempting the Beast is more like a short story that serves to introduce the reader to the breed community. Human, infused with DNA from predators of the world, Breeds were created to serve as secret operatives, assassins and killing machines. The hero in this first book, Callan Lyons, is one of these genetic experiments and one of the initial six lion Breeds we meet fighting for their freedom.

I think I have found my new guilty pleasure read. This book was totally over the top, borderline porny, campy... and yet, I totally enjoyed it.

Our heroine is Marinus, a journalist who works with her father and seven brothers for some kind of publication that is never explained. (The brothers also apparently have other professions, which I didn't entirely get, either, but lets just go with it...). Anyhoo, the family is investigating Callan Lyons, a genetic experiment created by a blend of human a

I am a reader who occasionally likes plots with sex: sign me up, yes please AND all that. But when sex is the plot, I get bored. The lesson learned is that perhaps I should avoid the erotic romance genre in the future because my list of complaints exceeds my list of compliments and since my experiences reading other books from the same genre resulted in a similar outcome, that should be telling. Hm…

I am very disappointed with this. the language is distasteful. The characters are as deep as a teaspoon. The story line is pretty much non existent.
