You can use anything you've read since the 14th of August this year as long as it hasnt been a challenge book used in this group or a group read.

Guys, remember that as you're updating your lists to add ? of 26 Completed at the top of your list so that it's easier for me to tally points.

message 55: by Vivian (last edited Oct 04, 2010 07:32PM) (new)

Vivian (_vivian) I came up with an actual 'X' book I want to read, so I figure why not, let's read the alphabet. See how easy it is to suck me into these things??

I'm going to come up with a semi-list and post it later.

BTW - my X book is Xenocide by Orson Scott Card, part of the Enders series. Really great books, if you haven't read any.

message 56: by Angela (new)

Angela B Hmmm Now I might have to read a bunch of enders books to get an X book lol

message 57: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Haha. I thought about it, but that's why I'm allowing cheats. I don't want to be forced into a book I have no interest in. Enders...maybe some day, but not now for me.

message 58: by Angela (new)

Angela B how many cheats can you do?

message 59: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Apparently I said 3. You can do it without any, but you really only need one. I thought this was going to be harder when I set it up.
I stopped working toward this one for a while since I reading for another group, but I finished my V today and I'll get my G later in the day.

Stacia - Magic Study is better than Marked. Marked had some potential, but fell flat for me. I'll give book 2 a try, but if it's not better than I'm through. I found Poison Study to be the best in the series, but Magic Study was still good.

message 61: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Angela -Ender's Game is one of those books, I think people love it or hate it. Xenocide is book 3, so not too many to get through if you decide to read it. But there's a side series about another character that I ended liking more than the original, so never read Xenocide.

I was having a hard time finding an "X" book and I wanted to find one without the cheat. So I talked to my librian friends and they came up with a list of 5 or so books for me, the one you mentioned was one, but I haven't read the first too. Not sure which one I am going to pick yet.

message 63: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I have only read the first Ender book. I read it for school way back in like grade 9 and then just a month or two ago. I think I liked it more when I was younger, but I still enjoyed it.

Heather, I'm not sure if it's not for you. You seem to like dystopian themes, and I'd say this is one, but a bit more heavy on the scifi. Teachers love discussing this book. It's more of a head case book and has more of an Orwellian feel to it than say The Hunger Games.

message 64: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Oh, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the next books in the Ender's series were a bit more mature than the first book. Not sure though, but I thought I remember somebody saying that.

message 65: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
I hated Orwell. I get the themes and why they're good for using and all that, but 1984 didn't get finished. I did finish Animal farm, but I didn't love it. (Unless you're referring to a diff Orwell.)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Heather wrote: "Stacia - Magic Study is better than Marked. Marked had some potential, but fell flat for me. I'll give book 2 a try, but if it's not better than I'm through. I found Poison Study to be the best in ..."

Thanks for this. I have Marked as a free book on the Nook, that's the only reason that I put it up there (since I start to feel guilty about downloading all these free books and RARELY get around to reading them).

message 67: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) I guess there are some "mature" topics discussed in the other books, but I'm not sure if it's much more than in Ender's Game. Definitely sci-fi, and good if you can get over the idea that the fate of the world is in the hands of a 6 year old. I think it was just a good, engaging read.

Stacia - I feel the same about downloading all the free books and not reading them, but those are always there and my library books must get returned :)

message 68: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
I do the same thing Stacia. Maybe some day I'll get to them, but they're probably free for a reason. 1 in 50 are probably really good.

message 80: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I finished much sooner than I thought. I was also surprised that there were only a few letters that I had to seek out. I did find some really good books that I probably wouldn't have read if not for this challenge. I did also read some meh.... books too.

Nice! I intended to get going on this one this last month, but then I got addicted to dark Hunter and Highlander and had to push it all back. Maybe soon?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I have mine set up on a desktop computer document. It really helps when I break it down by month. Otherwise I'd be constantly forgetting what books are supposed to be read.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Hmmm, I should probably do something like that. I am too lazy though. Maybe for next year (if I do challenges).
