1. A/B Bri Blackmailed looked hokey. Turned out really good.

2. C/D/E Chloe Bear Necessities This started as an ebook series (halle pumas now evolved to Halle shifters) that has gone print on the first ones. They are more to the erotic side. More novella in length but along with the Granite Lake wolves, I am addicted. They make overnight love make sense.

3. F/G Chase Falladay Only Pleasure One of my favorites in the Bound Hearts series. If you like more erotic romance this series is good. Lora Leigh does the Breeds books too that are PNR, but after a few they seem to have a formula that bored me. Not so with the Bound series.

4. H/I/J Isabel Linger Poetry. That is what this book is. Pure poetry. So far beyond YA. I wonder if teens get the magic that exists around the simple plot. The characters, their lessons, the depth- I hope they hear the messages of how your choices effect yourself and others. There is so much gold here it is simply amazing.

5. K/L Kimber and Luc Decadent Another Bound Series book by Lora Leigh. One of the earlier ones. Also really good.

6. M/N/O Nixie Biting Nixie Not as satisfying as the first, but still strong. I love when they kind of create a town or totally change a town like in the Kate Daniels books.

7. P/Q Jaz Parks Once Bitten, Twice Shy I haven't been able to find a new UF in a while, so I was delightfully surprised with this one. Not my top recommendation for those newer to UF but for those of us who have "hit" the majors like Cat/Bones, Merc Thompson, Cassie Palmer, The Hallows, Women of the Underworld, Kitty Norville, Richelle Mead's series (yada yada) this is a strong second tier. Some originality. Definate attempt at having 3D characters. Strong voice. I could easily come up with 20 series to read first, but this is still pretty good.

8. R/S/T Radje Eternal Kiss of Darkness I swear this series gets better with each book. That is so rare. Normally they get repetitive and fizzle out. I wasn't much of a lover of Mencheres. He was ok, but not Spade. Well. Love me some Mencheres. He has a little Roarke in him.

9. U/V/W Vin DiPietrio Covet I think my biggest problem was having to tell myself this was NOT Black Daggar Brotherhoood. I saw Ward's style eeking through, but it was very different, very much its own. The story resembled many TV shows, I guess Saving Grace is the popular one now. Angels vs. Demons for human souls with the appocolypse nearing. Ordinary people, with challenging lives expected to make extrodinary choices and sacrifices with literally everything and everyone on the line. If it wasn't Ward's I wouldn't have picked it up. I think I like Showalter's UF w/angels (extrondinary girl) better. I couldn't call this a romance. Very little romance for the two who connect. It is much more about the good/evil fight. I would have expected better developed characters with that story line. And they are good, but after Zhadist, we all know what her best is and this is short of that. It is still an amazing read, just not the knock my socks off Ward that I love.

10. X/Y/Z Yelena Zaltana Poison Study I really enjoyed it! It is YA and innocent, but a wonderful story. Refreshing change for me. Amazing character development wrapped in a wonderful tale.

The Lucy Valentine series is a little of everything. Its more UF than PNR--but maybe more mystery or. . . Anyway, its got it all--mystery, love, adventure. . . :o) Lucy is the youngest member of the Valentine family--world famous matchmakers who have a 97% succeess rate with the marriages that they arrange. And why is their rate so high? Because the Valentines have a little "something extra" is why. According to family lore, Cupid himself blessed the family with their matchmaking abilities. Unfortunate, as with any God-given gift, there is a down side. And its the Curse--Valentines can make successful matches for everyone EXCEPT Valentines.

I found this series by accident (stumbled across the first one at a library book sale) and have really enjoyed the 2 books that have been published in the series so far. So, 2 thumbs up for this series.

1. A/B Bri Blackmailed looked hokey. Turned out really good.

2. C/D/E Chloe Bear Necessities This started as an ebook series (halle pumas now evolved to Halle shifters) that has gone print on the first ones. They are more to the erotic side. More novella in length but along with the Granite Lake wolves, I am addicted. They make overnight love make sense.

3. F/G Chase Falladay Only Pleasure One of my favorites in the Bound Hearts series. If you like more erotic romance this series is good. Lora Leigh does the Breeds books too that are PNR, but after a few they seem to have a formula that bored me. Not so with the Bound series.

4. H/I/J Isabel Linger Poetry. That is what this book is. Pure poetry. So far beyond YA. I wonder if teens get the magic that exists around the simple plot. The characters, their lessons, the depth- I hope they hear the messages of how your choices effect yourself and others. There is so much gold here it is simply amazing.

5. K/L Kimber and Luc Decadent Another Bound Series book by Lora Leigh. One of the earlier ones. Also really good.

6. M/N/O Nixie Biting Nixie Not as satisfying as the first, but still strong. I love when they kind of create a town or totally change a town like in the Kate Daniels books.

7. P/Q Jaz Parks Once Bitten, Twice Shy I haven't been able to find a new UF in a while, so I was delightfully surprised with this one. Not my top recommendation for those newer to UF but for those of us who have "hit" the majors like Cat/Bones, Merc Thompson, Cassie Palmer, The Hallows, Women of the Underworld, Kitty Norville, Richelle Mead's series (yada yada) this is a strong second tier. Some originality. Definate attempt at having 3D characters. Strong voice. I could easily come up with 20 series to read first, but this is still pretty good.

8. R/S/T Radje Eternal Kiss of Darkness I swear this series gets better with each book. That is so rare. Normally they get repetitive and fizzle out. I wasn't much of a lover of Mencheres. He was ok, but not Spade. Well. Love me some Mencheres. He has a little Roarke in him.

9. U/V/W Vin DiPietrio Covet I think my biggest problem was having to tell myself this was NOT Black Daggar Brotherhoood. I saw Ward's style eeking through, but it was very different, very much its own. The story resembled many TV shows, I guess Saving Grace is the popular one now. Angels vs. Demons for human souls with the appocolypse nearing. Ordinary people, with challenging lives expected to make extrodinary choices and sacrifices with literally everything and everyone on the line. If it wasn't Ward's I wouldn't have picked it up. I think I like Showalter's UF w/angels (extrondinary girl) better. I couldn't call this a romance. Very little romance for the two who connect. It is much more about the good/evil fight. I would have expected better developed characters with that story line. And they are good, but after Zhadist, we all know what her best is and this is short of that. It is still an amazing read, just not the knock my socks off Ward that I love.

10. X/Y/Z Yelena Zaltana Poison Study I really enjoyed it! It is YA and innocent, but a wonderful story. Refreshing change for me. Amazing character development wrapped in a wonderful tale.

MARTINA'S AUGUST CHARACTER ALPHABET PARADE UPDATE - 3/10

I just finished Burning Bridges (Retrievers #4) by Laura Anne Gilman (★★★★). This series is firmly in the UF category, with a capital U. It even takes place in NYC. Wren is a "Retriever" which is a fancy way of saying a paid-to-swipe, high talent cat-burglar. But she also has magic. Of course, magic in this series is really an ability to manipulate "current" which is very similar to electrical current.

The world is populated by non-magical "Nulls", magic-users or "Talent" and the inherently magical creatures called "Fatae". It's also rife with politics. Magical organizations of the Cosa Nostradamus, the Council, Lonejacks, and the Fatae as well as a secret supposedly do-gooder agency, The Silence. In this book, the storyline of the previous three books continues as some Fatae murders bring a head to the tension between these organizations.

This series is fairly original, IMO so it's hard to draw similarities to other series, but the tone of the writing along w/being a UF lead me to suggest that you'd like this series if you like Kat Richardson's Greywalker series, Phaedra Wilson's Zoe Martinique series, Toni Andrews' Mercy Hollings series, and possibly even Marjorie M. Liu's Dirk & Steele series (though those are PNR).

This was a wonderful, wonderful book. It's a perfect story for those of you who want to dip their feet in the m/m pool. There is very little sex and a lot of angst-driven story which focuses on the character's troubles of embracing each other and their own sexuality. It's even broader than that as issues like death, sacrifice and guilt are dealt with.
I loved this book, it was emotional, endearing and romantic. I highly recommend it!
