MARTINA'S AUGUST CHARACTER ALPHABET PARADE UPDATE - 6/10In the wee hours of this morning I finished Hunted (House of Night #5) by P.C. & Kristin Cast (★★★★). The series is urban fantasy for young adults. I'm definitely not the target audience, so the teeny-bop style dialogue does sometimes get on my nerves, but generally I find them a pretty good read. The series takes place in Tulsa, OK in a present time where "vampyres" are followers of the goddess, Nyx. More specifically in a school where newly marked "fledgelings" train until they are changed into an adult vampyre.
This particular book in the series has our heroine, Zoey, and her cast of friends, battling against a newly awakened god/demon of old American-Indian legend who is out to conquer the world.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I found the immediate story to drag a bit. However, the development of the plot of the overall series arc kept me well entertained. Love the character development in the secondary characters and how they fit into Zoey's life.

I loved Magic to the bone by devon monk. The main male character is Zayvion Jones.

If you haven't read it yet, you might try the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I just started reading it for the second time the other day. It's a really fun one to read, and there are a couple of characters who would fit the X/Y/Z category.

I thought I'd challenge myself by getting all of the characters in the alphabet from one series (only books that are already out and only use the main characters).I used "The Dark Hunter" series by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

MARTINA'S AUGUST CHARACTER ALPHABET PARADE UPDATE - 7/10I just finished Irreversible (Wired #2) by Liz Maverick (★★★1/2). This book is futuristic/time-travel romance and is a sequel to the book "Wired" by the same author. They were both published under the SHOMI line by Dorchester Pub a few years back. The SHOMI line all has crazy cartoon/anime-esque covers that for me were a bit of a turn-off so most of them have been sitting on my shelf for years. However, as I've slowly picked them up and read them, I've been very surprised! A lot of them are ★★★★★ quality! Wired was that way, but sadly, Irreversible falls pretty far behind.
The book picks up the story of L. Roxanne Zaborovsky and her boyfriend, Mason as they're trying to find and save Roxy's best-friend, Kitty. Kitty's timeline got messed up in the first book. For awhile she was dead, but her murdered went into her past, saved her, and now has her plugged into a "time-loop" where she repeats the same week of her life over and over again. Think of a week-long, Groundhog Day. Yes, it's a clever story, but I had problems getting into it and just never really came to like the characters the way I did in the first book.
