Lover Awakened by J.R Ward 5/19/10

Read 2 books where there is no person or human image at all.

Just finished Spirit Bound. I'm having really mixed feelings about it! It was lots better than the last book. That one drove me crazy. But Rose really pissed me off a number of times. I hate the way that she treats Adrian! She is really going to break his heart, and I love Adrian!

Just finished Hush, Hush...ouch. That one was painful.
Single Male on Cover:
1.
Underdeveloped and completly predictable story, uninspired world with little to no development, boring characters and a stupid main character. Little to no redeeming qualities...ick.
2.
3. Changed to: Night Embrace

Single Female on Cover:
1.
Glass houses was ok. It was an interesting after reading so many "vampires are dangerous, but sexy and the best lovers" type books, it was different getting used to the "vampires are bad guys" type. But I did enjoy it and will probably read the rest of the series at some point.
2. Changed to The Host
3.
I really enjoyed Vampire Academy. I had to DL the kindle sample of book 2 to tide me over from getting it at the library later in the month! I enjoy flawed heroes, and Rose has the shimmering beginnings of one!!

Couple on Cover:
1.
Though not my favorite book, I still enjoyed it. It felt like an "in-betweener" book...

Ok, off topic question here--but is anyone else having problems with the layout of their books? For some reason, my books are NOT sorting by alphabetically like I want them to. It will have a half dozen, say Andre Nortons, then a couple of Hal Clement, then another author or two. And I've tried to figure out what it is, but its driving me nuts.

EcstasyI didn't realize that the nightwalkers spun into this series, Shadowdwellers. The world was new and intriguing. The two protagonists definitely had chemistry and connected. Sometimes I think she over describes the characters when they are talking. It is also up there on the sex content. Not erotica, but if you find Ward uncomfortable, this will put a blush on your cheeks. (especially her discovery of sex school)A Quick BiteI actually saw a lot of folks here reading this series last month and put it on my "to try" list. I really enjoyed it. It is a sweet little love story, unlike the impression the descriptors gave me. Almost YA in style- very low on graphics. Not intense in any way.Read 3 books with a luscious lass on the cover.
Tempting DangerI saw this on some of last month's reads and gave it an impromptu whirl. Jeez. What a delightful surprise. It is so weird that all the common threads are there...Lupi, magic..indians...family and pack... yet it is wholly unique. It would qualify as a PNR, but it reads more like a UF- more Mercy Thompson. I guess Cat and Bones are together at the end of book 1 right? Still. I am glad there are LOTS of books in this series. It's been a while since I have had a series like that to enjoy.Kiss Of DeathThis is the eighth book in the Morganville Vampire series. Basically, Michael is invited to go to Dallas to a recording studio. All 4 are allowed to go as long as Oliver chaperones, ensuring a return of course! The normal life/death morganvillesque calamity ensues. I did enjoy the progression of love for the couples. It was nice to see them each think somewhat about the future. Both were portrayed well for their young (in my opinion) if experienced lives.Kitty and the Midnight HourI have been saving Kitty Norville, knowing that this was going to be a series I sunk my teeth into. It did not disappoint. For the first part of the book I was truly disturbed by her attitude about how her alpha was treating her. Then I got how the author was using that insight to show character change/growth. Frankly, after Laurel Hamilton I have to open my mind to thinking/values way outside my comfort zone so it didn't just dawn on me that the author intended it the way she did. (hopefully that was obtuse enough to not spoil it for anyone)Kitty Goes to WashingtonI totally get why so many people are hooked on these books.Kitty Takes a HolidayGrrr. Loved the story. Hated who she hooked up with. Maybe it was because she kept wondering about the guy's best friend! I know people sometimes wonder "what if" when things don't follow a romantic path that might have, but I couldn't help but think eww. when ever any of them reflected on it. Don't get me wrong. I loved the book. I whipped through it and I am climbing into the tub with the next in the series. I just hope I don't spend another book ewwing the relationship part. :)Kitty and the Silver BulletOK. Ben grew on me. This may have been my favorite in the series so far. Not so much for the relationship-although it was much easier- but for the political and family dynamic/struggle. Great new characters to look out for and loved the resolution to some 'problems' from book one.
Ill WindA unique world to discover while a story of adventure and romance unfolds. I did enjoy it, but didn't rush to book 2. I will some day. Just not today.Read 2 books whose cover feature a couple.
Lover MineHaving waited for so long, I was ready to be disappointed. There was one little thread of the story that was addressed frequently during the book that wasn't resolved-obviously it is going to 'come out' later. Other than that the book was beyond my expectations. It was sooo well written, and given that both of the main characters were already familiar, oh so satisfying! This and Z's story are probably now my faves.Dead in the FamilyDon't you just LOVE ya some Sookie! This one has all those characters we love and delves into each and every one of their familial ties- while still threading some mystery in there to be solved- but all I wanted was MORE!DamienThis is such a traditional romance series. The waxing prose, the flow of the storyline, the secondaryness of all else but the romance...If you are in the mood for one of those lovey-dovey romances with a paranormal twist- this is one to try. Every now and then, I am in the mood for just that. It doesn't hook me like a book where the romance is secondary to a larger story. That being said, the Nightwalkers world is unique. There is in fact a battle with an evil of sorts that throughout the books works to bring each of the isolated species of nightwalkers together to work in cooperation for peace.
Blood PromiseThe best of all of them so far. But I am glad I could go straight to Spirit Bound and I wasn't left hanging with the Dimitri/Rose situation as it was. I thought I would abhore this book and instead it was a delight.Spirit Boundthe only thing I didn't like was the hanging end. Great set up for the last book- but I didn't feel like any plots were resolved and frankly each book should be able to stand on its own with a larger resolved issue.Read 2 books with covers void of homeo sapiens action.
ShiverWell. Just...Damn.
Typically, I don't particularly thrill to young adult books. Mortal Instruments- unbearable. Hunger Games- Can't get past the horrifying plot line even knowing there is a HOA at the end.
Wicked Lovely, HON, VA, Beautiful Creatures- good. No. They are REALLY Good. I enjoy them, but I don't salivate over them.
Yah. Ok. I am a Twihard. I admit it.
Now. Wow. Am I a Shivhard? Shiv-a-holic?
Seriously, tears are rolling down my old wrinkled face. I am WAY too old for this, yet...
Yah. Just... Moved.
My Soul to LoseThis is a prequel to the Soul Screamers series that you can get as a free eBook. And frankly it should be free. The only reason I will read book one is because it has high ratings with a fairly large # of readers. Enough for an avid reader to give it a try (especially starting with the 'try a sample for free' button on the kindle app.
My Soul to TakeSo with the mantra: Fair is fair, I went ahead and read the actual first book in the series... and it was good. The whole premise and execution were novel to me. I won't give it away, but when she was 'revealed' I had a 'duh' moment. (really, how did I miss that?) The end surprised me. A rare treat in and of itself. I am glad I read it, but I have to say- the next book's teaser did nothing for me. I enjoyed the world building, but not sure I am along for the ride. Mostly because it is YA and they just don't hook me as well.
