I liked it pretty well, a little more as a mystery than as a romance. The hero and heroine spent too much time apart, and --it had a very gothic feel, which some people like, but isn't my favorite. In the traditional gothic, the heroine is utterly confused by the hero, sometimes fears him, and never quite knows what she feels about him, exactly. In this, the heroine knows the hero, and never really fears him, but she is quite confused by him, and is often angry with him. Which meant that the happy ending didn't quite satisfy me, because it was a little abrupt. I want to see the growth of the romance, and this one sputtered more than it grew--to me anyway. That said, I did enjoy reading it. It was just a little too gothicky for my preference. For those who like gothic, you'd like this.

I read Full Moon this month as well. I love Harry! I agree, this book was better than the first. I am looking forward to see how the rest of the series goes.

I just finished A Quick Bite (Argeneau Vampires, Book 1) which I give 4 stars. This book is classic paranormal romance. Lissianna Argeneau is a vampire with a serious problem. She faints at the sight of blood. So as a 200+ birthday gift for Lissianna, her mother kidnaps psychologist, Greg Hewitt, to help cure her phobia. The only problems is that Greg has a "strong mind" and the family is having problems wiping his memory of the whole affair.
I enjoyed the book - most especially the unusual explanation of what vampires are and how they came to be (hint: it involves the lost city of Atlantis). The romance element, while steamy, was a little lacking. This is one of those love-at-first-sight/destined-to-be-together stories which I never like as much as the relationships that have to find their way into love. However, I very much enjoyed the crazy family element as well as the adventure element of this one, hence the 4 stars. I've already purchased the next book in this series and am looking forward to sinking my teeth into it (sic!). :-)

Swapping

*Note that I first read this book in Feb 2008 - over two years ago.
Just finished reading Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, Book 1) by Richelle Mead ★★★★★. This is a young-adult urban fantasy book. I'm feeling a bit lazy tonight, so here's the blurb from the back of the book:
"Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires - the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them. After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And BOTH girls will resume breaking Academy hearts. Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's - inside the Academy's iron gates, their world is even more fraught with danger. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals, and their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever. . . "
This is arguably one of the best YA vampire stories out there right now. It's currently up to four books in the series with six planned and then an off-shoot series. I'll be purchasing these books all the way through the end, without a doubt! It's a rich world with a unique take on vampires.
Fans of the Twilight series as well as Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires should give Vampire Academy a try.
