WHAT ARE YOU READING AND WHY!!
Among the Thugs by Bill Buford. It's non-fiction: In the 1980s, an American outsider runs around with English soccer hooligans and tries to understand what's going on. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion, but pretty good so far.
I've been reading Grave Witch by Kalayna Price. She's been a friend for awhile now and I finally broke down and read her story. I'm always a bit fearful of reading my fellow writers works because there's always the chance I'll not like the stuff (which has happened on a few occasions). Happily this is one of the best Urban Fantasy novels I've read in a long time. Fun, fast-paced, and chock full o' greatness.

Nope. I've read about about 8 of his books. He is as creepy as Clive Barker!
is the only one I can say that I did not enjoy as well as the others.
Hellhouse by Richard Mathesson cos I fancied a change from science fiction- even tho the author is known as a SF author.
Larry wrote: "Hellhouse by Richard Mathesson cos I fancied a change from science fiction- even tho the author is known as a SF author."Have you read Matheson's horror before? He wrote one of my favorite short stories, Prey about a head hunting fetish doll that comes to life (also in a movie featuring three stories, Trilogy of Terror). He also wrote the short story that was a Twilight Zone episode, the one with William Shatner and the monster on the wing of the plane.
I am reading The Summer Tree. The author comes highly recommended by one of my fantasy clubs. So far it's very good. Like a grown up Narnia.
My last two reads were recommended, for good reason, by reader friends, and I enjoyed them both:Left Neglected
(This is written by the same author as one of the August discussion books, and if you like Still Alice, you'll like this book, too)
The Book Thief
I am reading Coincidencesshe is a talented Author and I have read all her books. This is very emotional ans intense...Maria Savva
The Wandering Fire. Second book of The Fionavar Tapestry. The series is a mix of Narnia and Lord of the Rings. And Kay comes very close to getting the old world feel of those other books.
I haven't read The Fionavar Tapestry yet, but I really like the two other books I've read by Kay (Under Heaven & Lord of Emperors)
I'm now reading Warriors of the Four Worlds by Ronald Jones. This Science Fiction novel was on my to-read list!
I'm now eagerly reading Legacy by Jeanne C. Stein.
Anna Strong, bounty hunter living in San Diego, CA, is also a vampire with attitude. Besides the intricacies of vampiric life and customs, and add in a pack of werewolves led by a female werewolf (who is set to give Anna and family lots of grief if she can't get an estate dispute with Anna settled to her satisfaction), you've got a very engaging and exciting story.
I've already read the first 3 novels in the series. And I'm loving this one.
Been sick & out of commission even for reading! *gasp*But right before I was felled, I finished The Paris Wife by Paula McLain which I greatly enjoyed and am now back to Geraldine Brooks' new novel,
which is very absorbing and well-written.

I loved The Magicians, & Tailchaser's Song is also a wonderful book! If you like that one, you'll love Gayle Greeno's Ghatti's Tales books too :)
I am reading several too LOL. 1. Cat's Eye-Atwood
2. Bridges of Madison County-Waller
3. The Genesis Secret-Knox
4. Serendipity-Shaffer
5. The Pirate's Daughter--Cezair-Thompson
Reading Midnight Falcon by David Gemmell - I love hist fic, but the quality of the storytelling has won me over to fantasy!

I agree!
Gordon wrote: "Reading Midnight Falcon by David Gemmell - I love hist fic, but the quality of the storytelling has won me over to fantasy!"Some of the best fantasy books read like historical fiction and also the other way around. The most obvious is Tolkien. But also George RR Martin A Game of Thrones and Guy Gavriel Kay The Lions of al-Rassan. My favorite hist. fiction that reads like a fantasy is The Pillars of the Earth.

I hope you're feeling better.
I've just finished Fool Moon by Jim Butcher and was not disappointed. Very entertaining book. I'm currently reading A Piano in the Pyrenees: The Ups adn Downs of an Englishman in the French Mountains by Tony Hawks and enjoying very much, it's been a good chuckle. Last night I started Iris Johansen (Author)'sDeadlock.
Right now I am reading The Corrections by Franzen. I guess the only reason that I chose it was because of already reading Freedom and falling in love with Franzen's writing style. It can be crude, but also flowery and poetic.
I'm currently reading Tengu the Mountain Goblin: A Connor Burke Martial Arts Thriller by John Donohue. Donohue, a martial artist himself, recently posted on GR about Kage: The Shadow, his most recent book. This reminded me that I hadn't read Tengu yet.

I thought it was slightly better than Freedom but also much more disturbing. I read The Corrections shortly after it came out and I'm wondering if your opinion will be different as a result of reading them in a different order.
I have just finished 'Always on my Mind' by Colette Caddle which I rated 5 star on Goodreads. I have just started 'Lessons in Lauging Out Loud' by Rowan Coleman.I have 3 young children so at the moment I have to read books I can dip into when I have a chance. I currently prefer to read books by authors I have got to know on Twitter.
I've just finished reading
by Kasi Alexander. My first venture into BDSM and polyamory. Really fascinated by the polyamorous relationship between the three main characters.
Just finished The King of Diamonds by Simon Tolkien - He's the grandson of J. R. R. Tolkien. That's why I originally read his first book Final Witness. I enjoyed this book as much as the first.

Right now, my wife and I both have been pretty tied up with extended family responsibilities that will continue to take up a LOT of our time for several more weeks; so I don't have nearly as much time as I usually do either for reading or for being on Goodreads. So at the moment, I'm just dipping into Masterpieces of Fantasy and Wonder at times when I can grab a chance to read.
I'm now reading A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin, which I first heard of when it was a best-seller back in the early 1990s.
So far, about 100 pages in, I'm not enjoying it very much. Some of the prose is a bit overblown. But I will persevere, if only because I want to know how Alessandro gets through the war and manages to pick up the pieces of his life in the immediate post-World War I era.
I'm reading Jack London's White Fang - first-class story-telling and understanding of animal/human nature!I alway have 3-6 six books on the go at any one time, so I'm also reading The Killing Place by Tess Gerritsen, and Ultimate Weapon by Chris Ryan - I'm doing some research on my next book into British Army and SAS, hence Chris Ryan.
I just started Dead by Midnight: A Death on Demand Mystery by Carolyn Hart a couple of days ago. Just about finished already. I really like this series so a new one is a must read for me.

Just finished Wicked Autumn: A Max Tudor Novel I recieved is as a book give away. Was slow starting but picked up. Was a light read and had some hummer to it.Just stared The Tiger's Wife. Had a few people say I should read it. So far I'm enjoying it
Currently I'm reading The Mission by Jason Myers. Which is about a boy named Kaden, who brother dies in Iraq, and he goes to visit his cousin in San Fransisco so he can hear Chuck Palahniuk read from his newest novel. I'm reading this because I LOVED Dead End by the same author. The author writes really dark raw books. I totally recommend Dead End.
I just completed The Resurrectionist- while it started out well- it became quite distant- the lead character -impossible to connect with- and the plot convoluted- not to say it is a bad book- very well written- just - not the traditional Victorian thriller I was hoping for.

[book:The Tiger's Wife is on my list. I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions about it.
I'm currently reading THE HELP, by Kathryn Stockard. It was recommended to me by my friends.Russell Brooks
I'm currently reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. Boy, that man has a wicked, bizarre imagination! That must be why he's my favourite horror author. :)
I'm currently deeply immersed in a number of books on the exiled Stuart family and their Jacobite adherents as research for a new series I am writing. For pure pleasure, I am trying to intersperse a few fluffy historical romances!

I find the large amount of research done by writers before writing facinating and very impressive!!

Right now I am reading The Gunslinger by Stephen King. I have recently read some of King's fiction and a few family members and friends told me I had to read the Dark Tower series. I'm finding book 1 to be a little boring, but everyone has told me that book 2 is amazing and I will be thankful that I trudged through The Gunslinger. I am about 85% done with it and hopefully will finish before I call it a day. Looking forward to book 2! E
I'm reading The Devil in White City by Erik Larsen. Actually, I'm listening to it on my nano. It's about the city of Chicago and the men who created the World Exposition which was held there in the 1890's. At the same time, it's the story of a serial killer in Chicago at the same time. I am on disc 8 about half way through and I would certainly recommend it but would warn that it iss dense in detail and graphic in parts.
