I am currently reading Goosebumps Night of the Living Dummy. Why? well thats a very good question! GGoosebumps was all the rage back when I was in school, students would fight over the books, I enjoyed them, so some 10 years later I want to get back to reading so why not start with the ones I liked as a kid?
I'm enjoying The State of the Art by Iain M. Banks, a collection of his short stories, tremendously and am looking forward to starting and rereading To Kill a Mockingbird as my second book.
I'm reading an e-book called "Angels and their Hourglasses" by J.M. Surra. It just won the 2011 Global e-book award for popular literature/fiction. It's a pretty interesting read so far. I've been in direct contact with the author and he's reading my book, Outage. Reciprocity... it's not just for couples anymore. ;o)

I am currently reading The House of the Spirits, by Isabel Allende. I'm really enjoying it. I came back from the library today with quite a haul though. I went with a list, LOL. Half of these books are on the Banned/Challenged books lists, all of them are on the 1001 Books list. In no particular order:Breakfast At Tiffany's
Rabbit Redux
Fear of Flying
The Secret History
The Devil & Miss Prym
Song of Solomon(Toni Morrison)
Possessing the Secret of Joy(follow up to The Color Purple)
Tropic of Cancer
Lolita
I should have fun working my way through these :)
I'm reading Mockingjay the last book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. It was recommended to me and there's so much hype about it that I couldn't resist!I will admit that I am enjoying them, I can't put it down!
I'm in between books right now. I'm reading I Am Number Four and Nightshade. I'm not really loving either right now, and, to be honest, I'm really wasting time until Tiger's Voyage comes out lol.

Right now I'm reading The People of Sparks and a little bit of Maximum Ride. I have so many books I keep wanting to read right now, but I'm determined to finish the Books of Ember series before I go onto the anything else.

I also like to finish a series - instead of having to try to remember the characters and events months later when I decide to read the next book in the series!

Starting two new books, to end off Aug and begin September; one a re-read of my all-time favourite, To Kill a Mockingbird and the other one of my favourite mystery writers, Donna Leon and Dressed for Death
Rick wrote: "Danielle wrote: "Right now I'm reading The People of Sparks and a little bit of Maximum Ride. Going Solo by Roald Dahl - Boy: Tales of Childhood was so wonderful I just had to continue - and thus far it too is felightful - a terrific travel book.
I'm reading
by Charlotte Featherstone. I make no apologies for loving historical romances with dark, brooding heroes!
Rick, I usually read two books at the same time also, but I have been known to read up to four! lol Right now, I am finishing up Lionel Shriver's So Much for That and Tayari Jones' Silver Sparrow. After years of procrastination, finally I have started Kindred by Octavia Butler and I am glad that I did!
I'm reading The Ballad of Johnny Madigan by John A. Bray. It's the story of a young man who lied about his age and joined the army during the Civil War, not my usual type of book. I found this at a conference I attended and bought it on the spur of the moment. So far I'm really enjoying it.The Ballad of Johnny Madigan

excellent choices- curious what you think of Kindred when you finish it, Carolyn!

Reading three books now-
I am presently reading Pompeii: A City On Fire. It was a free download for my kindle from amazon and sounded interesting. The book captured my attention within the first few pages and so far is very good.
I am reading:
by William Gaddis-I chose it for a challenge of books on my TBR shelf for over a year. I've read good things about it & I've liked what I've read. It's just very long & a bit difficult so I have to push myself but when I do it's worth it.Same thing is true for George Lamming's autobiographical novel of colonialism,
which is even harder (but I'm not sure yet how rewarding it will be). The sentences are beautiful but very dense.I'm also reading Arthur Phillips's newest work
because I love him as an author and 2 mysteries as light relief from all the other books, both by my favorite (at the moment) mystery writer, M.C. Beaton, one from each of my 2 favorite series of her,
(Hamish Macbeth, with whom I am in love!) &
(my gratifyingly successful but sour alter ego!).
I'm currently reading Naval Aces of World War 1 Part I by Jon Guttman.
I have a deep interest in First World War aviation and this particular book sheds light on the achievements made by pilots (British, Canadian, South African, American) who served in the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS - the precursor to the Royal Air Force [RAF]) during the war.

I am re-reading Outlander -- again. I'm so hooked on Diana Gabaldon's characters, must get my fix every now and then.

heed to read those books already! I own the series- actually have them right above my computer on the shelf!!

I am reading The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: Or The Murder at Road Hill House byKate Summerscale for my offline book club.
Lyn wrote: "I am re-reading Outlander -- again. I'm so hooked on Diana Gabaldon's characters, must get my fix every now and then."I reread them all every few years. I can't wait for the new one to come out!
Lyn wrote: "I am re-reading Outlander -- again. I'm so hooked on Diana Gabaldon's characters, must get my fix every now and then."I absolutely love the Outlander series. Have read them all and like you have to re-read every so often.
Right now I am reading Veiled Freedom by Jeannette Windle
Hi . Currently I am reading "The King's Secret Matter" by Jean Plaidy
To the uninitiated, Jean Plaidy's books may appear to be the original bodice-rippers. This is a false impression. This book is about Henry's VIII passion for Ann Boleyn and his neglect of Katherine of Aragon. Historically accurate and with no padding this is a must-read.
I am also reading
and several other books. I get bored reading just one book, I have to confess that I am reading about seven at the moment. Yikes!

I'm reading Skulduggery Pleasant Mortal Coil because I love them they've got Magic which is basically science to them they,ve got warriors and wizards and it has thriller which is very interesting to me.
I'm reading some French comics from the "Tin Tin" series. LOL. I was picking through my bookshelf and found them. They take me back to my childhood. More specifically, I'm reading a two-parter "Objectif Lune" and the follow up "On a marche sur la lune." It's the story of a manned expedition to the moon. I remember loving it as a kid, but I'm sad to say it may have lost some of its lustre now that I'm all "grown up." Sometimes I wish I could just leave my analytical nature at the door and just enjoy it for what it is. But I find myself picking it apart for its inaccuracies.

I'm re-reading Hemingway's Islands in the Stream. I first read it 30 years ago when I lived in S. Florida and it used to be my favorite Hemingway. As I got older I got disillusioned by his misogyny and alcoholism but after a recent Florida visit thought to try "Islands" again. I still love it. It's still the best Papa. And the swordfishing scene with his son Dave is the best fishing scene in all literature. No matter his personal life, you can't take away from his talent. Baxter Clare Trautman, The River Within

Rick, I love the little pix of authors and covers. I am in one group that has it as a given that you must put in pix of authors and books if they are available on goodreads. They mostly are. It just saves the interested party doing a full search. I noticed one book mentioned above by Nancy, so did my own little search within Goodreads as I am interested in Afghanistan. "Veiled Freedom" is well liked it seems, it scored 3.88 on a scale of 5.
Jeanette WindleThere is no pic of Jeanette Windle on goodreads, so I have just posted the link.
Baxter - I must say I love your site. That main illustration is just gorgeous with Cat, Crow and Dog. But my favourite part is the pre-Raphaelites on your lap top. :-)

Rob Right now I am reading "The Collectors" by David Baldacci. It is an interesting read and not something I normally would read but I found it in my old bedroom and just figured I would read it. I found that it belonged to my grams who passed away and there was a note in her handwriting that it was a "good read" and so I just had to see why she put that in the book and because I am missing her it was a great reason to read it. :)

I recall meeting David Baldacci when he was a new writer- at a signing at the Borders bookstore in The World Trade Center Mall- when I worked at 2 WTC- he was a very nice and unassuming man -
loved The Collectors- your Grams had very fine taste in books Rob!

I am actually very much enjoying it. I just started it a couple days ago and I only have a little over 150 pages left to go. I may have to pick up more from him and see what I think. Discovering new authors can be a blast!

Rick, don't be put off by the length of her books. Once you start reading them you won't mind. I never want them to end, especially Outlander and Voyager. Diana's ability to draw a reader into the time and place is only outshown by her character development. Jamie and Claire have become like members of my family. I miss them when I haven't looked in on them for a while.
