Petra I'm reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall for pleasure, Basic Decompression Theory and Application 3rd Edition for a work-related exam/advancement thing and listening to Water for Elephants during my commute.

Shomeret | 86 comments I'm readingMurder in the High Himalaya: Loyalty, Tragedy and Escape from Tibet. I am very interested in Tibet and the occupation of Tibet by China. The book is about the shooting of a Tibetan nun trying to escape Tibet by Chinese border guards. Many Tibetans have been shot and killed while trying to escape Tibet. The remarkable thing about this murder is that Americans witnessed it.

Renee I am reading Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier

Ellen (elliearcher) I'm reading a cozy mystery Set Sail for Murder as a break after finishing Wolf Hall and Moloka'i and before plunging back to finish The Crimson Petal and the White, as well as The Master and Margarita and The Pillars of the Earth.

Then back to finishing Nights at the Circus for my 12+2 challenge read!

Nights as the Circus is on my 12+2 as well. I got about halfway through before I was distracted by other books; I really should get back to it soon.

Have you read The Road Show by Gary Jennings? It's the first book of a trilogy and is also about a circus in Europe around that time period. Jennings wrote the Aztec books. I haven't read the circus ones, it's on my list, though.

Book Gremlin Reads (bookgremlinreads) | 11 comments I am reading Incubus Dreams as I am still re-reading the series for the eventual read of Hit List. I am also reading a review book from an author, Her Dark Destiny and The Truest Heart just because I love Samantha James.

T.A. (tamih373) | 1 comments Like Rick, I usually have at least two books going at one time - one I've purchased and one from my local library although currently I'm focused on finishing "The Devil's Teeth - A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America's Great White Sharks" by Susan Casey. Why am I reading it? I'm fascinated with sharks and have been ever since I saw "Jaws" as a teenager when it was released back in the 70's. In fact, I'm a bit of a combination between Chief Brody and Matt Hooper - scared to death of the water but fascinated by sharks. It's been a good read so far.

No, I haven't read Seven Years in Tibet, but I did see the movie with Brad Pitt. Heinrich Herrer is discussed in Murder in the High Himalaya: Loyalty, Tragedy and Escape from Tibet. Apparently, the Dalai Lama completely changed him.

Deb (soulhaven) | 9 comments I am reading Diana Gabaldon's "Drums of Autumn", which I started soon after my son was born last September (!). I ran out of time to read for a long while there - esp when he was still in our bedroom (no bed-lamp for me!). So, I took up ebooks, instead for a while, and then I forgot that I had started this one until I picked it up and saw the book mark!
I started reading it because I enjoyed the first couple of books in the series. But, I must admit, that I don't find the subsequent stories as enthralling - hence my slow progress on this one at the moment.

I am also reading Hal Spacejock by Simon Haynes. I started reading this because I was finding Haynes' yWriter software so useful and buying his ebooks seemed the best way to reward him (while I can't afford to make a decent donation). I enjoy the story, but I guess I particularly enjoy emotional rollercoasters, so I am a bit slow on this one, too.

And then I purchased ARCHANGEL due to a post by Michael Vorhis right here on Goodreads, and I got stuck into reading that, too. I am progressing because I want to actually finish something (ideally all three) before moving onto anything else! However, and I hate to say it, it's not working for me, either. Can't wait to pick up an awesome book. Need something with a character that I can fall in love with (and I don't necessarily mean romantically... although, that can be nice, too).

Russell Brooks (russellbrooks) Just finished reading, Paris Is A Bitch -- A Rain/Delilah Short Story, by Barry Eisler. It's been a while since he wrote a John Rain book, and I missed him as a character. It was enough to calm me down until THE DETACHMENT is released.

The Foreign Field (The Morland Dynasty, #31) by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles

This is the 31st novel in a fantastic series of historical novels that I've been reading from for the past 6 years.

I'm so much a fan of The Morland Dynasty Series (of which "THE FOREIGN FIELD" is a part) that I would like to welcome everyone in this book club to join my group, which is specially dedicated to the Morlands.

Nancy Jarvis (screalwriter) | 40 comments Micheal and JR,
Amy Tan is one of my favorites, too. Saving Fish From Drowning is my favorite of her books. It's nice to hear good words from a man because I've been trying to get my husband to read her and he's been reluctant. Now I have ammunition.

Paula Coomer (paulamariecoomer) Reading Lidia Yuknavitch's CHRONOLOGY OF WATER for the sedond time, twice in a row. I'm thinking I'll read it a third time. She just knocks me between the eyes. Hard to find a comparable memoir. And I normally don't read memoir at all, but she has remade the form.

message 5079: by Keri (new)

Keri I am currently reading Maine by J.Courtney Sullivan. I have heard of alot of buzz about this book, and after reading the write up I thought it sounded good. I also saw two of my favorite authors( Harlan Coben& Jennifer Weiner) recommend this book on the Today Show. Through the years I have found few other authors I enjoy reading other than my 10 favorites. So I hope this one lives up to the buzz!!

Thomas Wilson (StorytellerTDW) I usually at least three or four books going at once so I am always starting and always finishing books all the time. I also now have my time split between family, work, editing my novel, and working on my next two novels. Right now I am reading Dick Van Dykes new book and The Jefferson Key for my book club selections, A Tony Robbins book for focus and inspiration and a e-book from a new author and blogger I just started following, verdict is still out on that one.

Last winter I read "TCOMC" when resting and listened to it when I was up and about, keeping pace with the story as I progressed. I wanted to immerse myself in it. I remember details better than books I've only read or heard and will probably repeat the method with another 19th century title someday. But not really soon.

Random observation: the Count was a model for our modern superheroes.

KOMET | 871 comments I am reading, with keen excitement and interest, the following novel ---

One Day by David Nicholls

One Day by David Nicholls

The novel, which is largely set in the UK, is focused on 2 people, Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley, who were at university together in Scotland during the 1980s (both graduated in 1988).

Using July 15th as a focal point (St. Swithin's Day), the author provides a view into the lives of both "Dex" and "Em" over the next 20 years.

As someone who graduated from college during the mid-1980s, the themes expressed in this novel deeply resonate with me.

I LOVE THIS NOVEL (!!!) and would highly recommend it to all Goodreads members who enjoy reading novels of this genre.

I have a huge selection of regency era books to finish as well as a growing list of to-read books. ✿Sandra Has everyone seen the new section at the top of the home page that says:

Site Announcement: Read for a Good Cause with Goodreads Book Club

I clicked on it and it says the following:

Here is our pledge: We are donating 1,000 books to kids in need for every 10,000 Goodreads members who add A Visit from the Goon Squad to their shelves. As of today, there are already more than 25,000 who have read or plan to read Jennifer Egan's evocative Pulitzer-winning novel, so we have already promised 2,000 books! Help us reach the next campaign benchmark by adding the book and inviting your friends to join the Goodreads Book Club.

If you haven't added it to your shelves yet, now would be a good time, so some children in need can have books donated to them. :)

Taylor Simons (tayvania) | 2 comments Currently I'm reading 'The Gift' by Danielle Steel. I was told by my best friend's mother that it was a good book. So far I think it is. The first Chapter is going to make you cry if you are very sensitive to someone's death. Otherwise it's a really good book.

I'm also reading 'Just a Nice Guy' by Phil Torcivia. This book I won off of here and it sure is something different. It's really not your normal read. I so far find it a bit amusing.

Although most of those are towards reviews, they're also for pleasure.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 145 comments I've just finished the 'Destination of the species' by Michael Meacher MP
Quite remarkable, starts off Stephen Hawkins style, big bang etc and ends up with global warming, sustainability etc.
It might sound boring, but I found it a very compelling read. I know, I know, oldgeezer reading philosophy!! but I enjoyed it and felt I understood a little more than before. On the star scale a definite 5. Also it is, remarkably 'indie' in as much as it is from a small independent publisher.
Oh, and I might love the book, but I'd never vote for him, [wrong gang] although I do agree with almost all he had to say.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]
