I finished reading A Trip To The Stars last night. I enjoyed this book but thought it was a bit detailed (which made the story flow rather awkwardly at times). I did, though, like the celestial look at coincidence and fate and "its meant to be". Very magical and poetic.I've now started The Disappeared because I was going through my bookshelves and saw it there, forgotten amongst all the other books.
Finished reading the second book in the Green Rider series, First Rider's Call, and now I've started The Chrysalids by John Wyndham.
This week I be readingWhat the Night Knows By Dean Koontz Because It seem like it be a good book and I have read some of his books before.
Also I be reading
Heartstopper by Joy Fielding & Live to Tell by Lisa Gardner
Cheryl wrote: "Finished reading the second book in the Green Rider series, First Rider's Call, and now I've started The Chrysalids by John Wyndham."The Chrysalids was the first John Wyndham book that I read and it made me a fan of his writing. It's still my favorite. I hope you enjoy it, Cheryl.

Cheryl - I totally agree with Petra. Both The Chrysalids and Day of the Triffids are amongst my favourite novels of all-time. I hop eyou enjoy The Chrysalids.
I am currently reading an ARC of Die Laughing from Louis K. Lowry, a funny science fiction piece that will be the first review of my Sci-Fi Worlds blog. Chapter 3 so far and it's very promising. This new writer certainly has talent.

Thanks, Petra and Bill. I'm really enjoying the book so far. Day of the Triffids was my first John Wyndham book and I loved it so much that I've read it at least 6 or 7 times. The Chrysalids is turning out to be another favourite.
I decided to read Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad because several groups were featuring it this month and I wanted to see what others thought about the novel. I'm enjoying it so far.

1st book by him and it was a 3* as it was an ok read.
I'm reading Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell. It's great. And it was fun to suggest it for a buddy read and have so many people join in.Also, in another group, I'm doing a side-read of The Pillars of the Earth-Ken Follett. Also a lot of fun even though it doesn't catch much of medieval thought-style.
Half-way through Die Laughing and I haven't died laughing but I certainly giggled through a lot of it. The first quarter is a fast-paced read. Quite delightful.
About to start The Gods Themselves by Asimov. Cos its been on my shelf a while and its one of the few asimovs I've not read!

Ellie,
How is the book going Pillers of the Earth. Do hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Long book, but it was well worth it.
After dragging my feet for a bit, between outlining my latest book and dealing with ordinary life, I've nearly finished Nation. Next up:Deeper. Loved the first one, Tunnels, so I hope to enjoy the second book in the series.

Slowed me up! grrrr :(
After several books which I abandoned unfinished, I am now reading A Trace of Smokewhich is a mystery taking place in Germany during the Weimar Republic when Cabaret took place.

Jan C wrote: "Shomeret wrote: "After several books which I abandoned unfinished, I am now reading A Trace of Smokewhich is a mystery taking place in Germany during the Weimar Republic when Cabaret..."So far I'm finding A Trace of Smoke quite good. I admire and identify with the central character who is in a difficult dilemma.

sounds like a facinating plot and setting!

Just started Sylvia Beach and the Lost Generation: A History of Literary Paris in the Twenties and Thirties- facinating in that she founded Shakespeare and Co. and was devoted to Joyce and was the publisher of Ulysses
I am reading Charlotte's Web because it is a July read for my other Goodreads Group. Unfortunately, my love of reading was not fostered as a child, so I have not read this book before. I have seen the movie a few times, but I am enjoying the book for the first time in my life!
After 1850 pages of Weber's Safehold series I needed a break, so I'm now reading This Rough Magic by Josh Lanyon. I'm not a real fan of Crime and Mysteries but his characters always are exquisitely written.
At this moment, I'm reading two books also. I saw somewhere near the beginning someone reads two books at a time. Could be a comment on our growing ADD! LOL, but I kid.Currently, I'm reading Robert McCammon's The Wolf's Hour. Now I'm not normally a fan of Occult World War Two fiction, but McCammon's tale includes a lot of character backstory, and not useless, mindless violence and I'm enjoying it.
Also, I'm RE-reading Stephen King's IT. I've read it twice since I was able to get my hands on a copy, once two years ago, and again last year. Now that I've gotten a NOOK, I purchased it as an E-Book, just to change it up a bit!
Next on my list is Peter Straub's the Floating Dragon, which I'm quite excited about.
I just started The Eyre Affair; it's been on my TBR for ages. It's not really pulling me in though, so if it doesn't catch my interest in the next 50 or so pages, I'm going to move on to something else.
Renee wrote: "2. A book set in a place that you would like to visit. I want to visit greece - Any suggestions?"May I recommend "The Last of the Wine" or "The King Must Die", both by Mary Renault. The first is realistic fiction set during the Peloponnesian War. Plato and Socrates make cameo appearances. The second is a retelling of the Theseus legend from the beginning until he returns to Athens from Crete. She also wrote "The Bull from the Sea", which is the second half of Theseus, but I haven't read that one.
"7. A biography/autobiography/memoir about someone you admire."
I show my own preferences here, but you might look at Henry II by W. L. Warren, Richard III by Paul Murray Kendall, and/or Fighting for the Confederacy by Edward Porter Alexander. The first two are English monarchs. Porter Alexander started at First Manassas as a Confederate Signal Corps Major and ended at Appomatox as commander of the Army of Northern Virginia's artillery. He was there for the whole war, was a trained observer (West Point graduate), writes well, and tells it as he saw it, including occasional criticism of St. Robert E. Lee, something few Southerners then or now would attempt.
Good luck with your list. It sounds as though it will be an interesting summer.

I will be listening to Anything Goes - John Barrowman, A Certain Age - Lynne Truss, A Suitable Boy: BBC Radio 4 Full-cast Dramatisation - Vikram Seth and Boy A - Jonathan Trigell
Reading Deeper because I really dug the first book of the series. Authors, Gordon and Williams, do a fantastic job!

I enjoyed Saving Fish more than anything else I've read by Tan. It's a true quest novel--lots of metaphors, humor and deep moral questions.
I am currently reading CENTURIES OF JUNE by Keith Donohue. It is a RIF win. If you are not aware of Reading It Forward, you should check them out. They have great reviews on new books and every few weeks a chance to win a book, usually before it is published. I have won a number of books. Great site! I am on chapter 11 in the book. I am a little disappointed because I had it in my mind that it was going to be side-splitingly funny. It is funny but not what I thought. Have to let you know what I think when I finish the book. I have a basket next to my reading chair filled with my "next book to read". Still I went to Borders yesterday and bought two more. aaaaaugh. Can't control myself with books.
I have finished listening to Anything Goes - John Barrowman, A Certain Age - Lynne Truss, A Suitable Boy: BBC Radio 4 Full-cast Dramatisation - Vikram Seth.

"A Reporter's Life" by W. Cronkite I'm enjoying because I like to get the 'alleged' backstage story and get a better insite on the individual. (I don't care for Limbaugh, but truly enjoyed his "The Way Things Ought To Be.") Faulkner's "Sanctuary" is giving me a hard time. The writing is good but wish I'd never found the 5/$1 Friends of Library special. No enjoyment from this read---hopefully his other works are less time-wasting.
