message 101: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1776 comments I am hoping to read Baru and Slaughterhouse 5, so as long as they are in different months, that is good for me.

message 102: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments Is there an option to separate Ubik, The Once and Future King and Slaughterhouse-Five?

message 103: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments Matching all requests so far gives something like...

Option B
(which I'm only suggesting to help the mods, certainly not step on their toes! not as well balanced as option A, but maybe that won't be a problem; meanwhile I'm cheerfully late with my plans and will probably read at my own idiosyncratic pace anyway):

April
Slaughterhouse-Five (215 pgs)
The Diamond Age (499 pgs)

May
The Once and Future King (639 pgs)
China Mountain Zhang (313 pgs)

June
Ubik (288 pgs)
The Traitor Baru Cormorant (399 pgs)

message 104: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments It looks like you have solved this riddle. I would vote for option B.

I dislike having both fantasy picks in the same month.

PS: Sorry if I'm slow to reply. I'm in tech for my school play and just very IRL busy.

Option C
April
Slaughterhouse-Five (215 pgs)
China Mountain Zhang (313 pgs)

May
The Traitor Baru Cormorant (399 pgs)
The Once and Future King (639 pgs)

June
Ubik (288 pgs)
The Diamond Age (499 pgs)

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
How about option C??

message 108: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1776 comments Melanie wrote: "How about option C??"

That has both the fantasy picks in the same month, though.

message 109: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments I'm absolutely happy with either B or C, I'm with Aga on separating Ubik, The Once and Future King and Slaughterhouse-Five, as these are the ones I want to read in the first place.

Option B is a liiitle more balanced page-wise, it seems to me.

Do we have 3 fantasy and 3 sci-fi books in the poll? If not, we'll have two of the same genre in some months anyway....

message 110: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments Option C is good 👍

message 111: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I like both options b and c because my hope is to read Slaughterhouse Five, The Once and Future King and The Traitor Baru Cormorant and would love it if they could be in separate months, but I don’t know if it’s possible with everyone’s requests.

Option D

April
Slaughterhouse-Five (215 pgs)
The Traitor Baru Cormorant (399 pgs)

May
China Mountain Zhang (313 pgs)
The Once and Future King (639 pgs)

June
Ubik (288 pgs)
The Diamond Age (499 pgs)

SFFBC | 840 comments Mod
Option E

April
Slaughterhouse-Five (215 pgs)
China Mountain Zhang (313 pgs)

May
Ubik (288 pgs)
The Traitor Baru Cormorant (399 pgs)

June
The Diamond Age (499 pgs)
The Once and Future King (639 pgs)

message 114: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
This feels like one of those logic puzzles, lol.
It *think* Option E does everything except separate the 'big' books.

message 115: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments B and C were good for me )))
B worked for Aga's and my preferences and Diane's as well.
No one seemed opposed to it (unless having two fantasy books in one month is a problem).
Maybe we should stop at that one, as perfection is not possible? ))

message 116: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments I’m ok with any option from B to E XD

message 117: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1776 comments A, B, C, and E are fine for me. :)

message 118: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments B, C or E are fine with me.

message 119: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
E is my preference.

message 120: by a.g.e. montagner (last edited Mar 02, 2025 01:10PM) (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments As I mentioned, my goal for this round is to do more reading and less preferencing!

In the best case scenario I plan to read everything except for Baru and Zhang, so I'm going to have my hands full anyway.

message 121: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6111 comments I wasn't very fond of the Baru book myself and I've already read and have no desire to re-read The Once and Future King or Slaughterhouse-Five. I read Diamond age years ago. So, I'm likely out for these three months unless Ubik comes down in price a lot

message 122: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
Ubik is the only book on the list I have read. The past several reread lists have been full of mostly books I had read already, so I'm going to try to read at least 1 from each month.

message 123: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
Olga, is list E okay with you. You seem to be the only person right now not favoring it?

message 124: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 336 comments Ubik is available to read at the Internet Archive.

March rereads start in a week.

March 15th
Neuromancer >> First impressions | Final thoughts & More
White Cat >> First impressions | Final thoughts & More

Melanie | 1602 comments Mod
Checking in. If y'all are okay with list E, I can make it official.

message 127: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments I was just checking this thread as well...
Option E puts the tomes I want to read in June, so I guess it's fine. Get a move on, future me!

message 128: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments E is good.

message 130: by CJ (new)

CJ | 533 comments Oof, I had missed the re-ordering. Well, I'm starting The Once and Future King tonight since I arranged my library hold for it with the idea of reading it in April and now there's like 10 people waiting for it after me, so read it now or never.

Is this still correct? Nobody has posted anything… just fyi, I started and posted here and on StoryGraph.

message 133: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments Hi Cathy.

The rereads, and indeed even the books of the month, don't always have a strong following. This is often due to extra-literary reasons, as you can imagine. Kickstarting the discussion is usually a good method.

I'd be curious to read it, but I've already signed up for more than I can currently keep up with.

I won't be re-reading that one as I wasn't a big fan the first time around

I am planning to read Baru, but have to clear the decks of a couple other books first.

message 141: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I was planning to read Baru as well, Meredith, but I’m behind in all things! When do you think you might get to it?

message 142: by CJ (last edited May 19, 2025 07:41AM) (new)

CJ | 533 comments I want to get to Baru, and the most of the current top votes for the next batch aren't appealing to me unless there's a big shift in the votes, so that will likely take some pressure for me and allow me to get to Baru a bit later on, most likely July (I'm making a tentative June TBR at the moment and I don't think I can fit it in). I still need to read Ubik and China Mountain Zhang too, and hope I can squeeze one of those in this month.

message 143: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments It's actually relatively easy to swing the vote at this point.
What titles do you favour? We'll give 'em a bump.

I'm set on the rather improbable feat of digging out some rereads that slipped through my personal schedule in recent months, such as Piranesi, Alphabet of Thorn, The Last Unicorn, even The Raven Tower. maybe I should just just wait for the next cycle when they can be voted as official rereads again.

message 144: by CJ (new)

CJ | 533 comments The ones I'm rooting for are The Calculating Stars, Doomsday Book, The Quantum Thief, Grass, and anything by Iain M. Banks, but don't feel you need to vote for any of those if they're not of interest to you.

message 145: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments I can tell you I've got my eyes on Banks' Culture novels for years, but it's going to be a long-term project. I'm not familiar with the other titles.

I just put a vote on Doomsday book for you, but I pretty much vote for books on my TBR pile or if they're really cheap ($2.99 or less).

message 147: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1776 comments DivaDiane wrote: "I was planning to read Baru as well, Meredith, but I’m behind in all things! When do you think you might get to it?"

I'll be out of town all next week, so I probably won't get to it until the start of June.

message 148: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6111 comments that's fine and maybe we could move the next story to June 10th?

message 149: by a.g.e. montagner (last edited May 21, 2025 06:02AM) (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 667 comments Can I get a bump for any of these: Solaris, Alif the Unseen, The Princess Bride, plus Solomon Rivers.

message 150: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments City of Stairs please! People are just finding out Robert Jackson Bennett after The Tainted Cup but his first trilogy was also awesome.
