My favorite book of this year out of 76.
It was a grandiose adventure set against the backdrop and magic of Old Hollywood.

Fractal Noise
Fractal Noise (Fractalverse, #0) by Christopher Paolini
Christopher Paolini
5 stars!
I would rate this 6 stars if I could!
This book has so much going for it! It's not only a very unique mystery about this mysterious giant black hole on the planet named Talos, but it also focuses on four people who have their own problems too. Alex, the main character, is suffering from the death of his wife, Layla. He decides to focus on reaching the hole but the planet's surface is very hostile environment. And before you know it, there is much stress and tension between the four people.

Very strong man vs nature elements in here.

I absolutely loved this story.

And one big problem in here is that almost all of the characters are so stubborn and think they are right (except for one who tends to just agree with everyone but that makes it worse too)...

Intense action! Tension you could slice with a knife. And even near the end I was unsure how this would end.

A person after my own heart! Iwaited ages to rent " The Troop". I do buy books but also am a member of two state libraries. In any case, I was thoroughly disgusted by the pervasive animal cruelty. If a child psycho was not thinking about hurting a living thing then he was engaged in doing it. Good kids reminiscing about past cruelties. Then the journals of animal experiments. It made me want to run out and join PETA! I skipped through hordes of pages---like the kitten--and it was STIll not finished! Jeez!

I think I read all of Flynn's works. " Dark Places" was depressing but I am a fan of her books generally speaking. Aside from the works of Karin Slaughter no other female writer spins a wicked yarn like it was conceived in the black of night and written with a razor.

I was baffled by this one too. I like her books due to the amusement of guessing the end. Kubica was a lot of enjoyment to read. I believe " The Good Girl" (2014)" was my favorite of hers. Recommend similar impressive talent from the bench of domestic suspense like Geneva Rose (The Perfect Marriage).

Pisces51 I finished Jeffrey Caston's FOOD: The Three Course Omnibus last night and was very impressed. It was exceptionally good. Don't care for dystopian themed extreme horror generally speaking but this comparatively short work left "Tender Is the Flesh" in the dust. Rated it a 5 Stars.

I liked the parts set in modern days with Unai but the parts set in the ancient past just couldn't hold my attention very well. The end seemed very sudden too? I had enjoyed the first two books much more than this one. So yeah, it was somewhat disappointing.

It's a thrilling adventure story about a group of people stuck on an alien world that is about to break up due to an immense gas giant approaching it. And their lander is broken! So they can't get off the planet! Lots of dangerous fauna and flora in here too. Huge climax at the end as well. I read this book long ago so I reread it.

The Exorcist
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
William Peter Blatty
5 stars!
I just found this book to be so fascinating! I know it's supposed to be scary but since so much of this is from the viewpoint of Karras the priest (Jesuit) and he is into this science versus religion thing I found myself hooked. Basically he was trying to find out if demons were real. How many people believe in demons in this modern age? How do you tell the difference between mental illness and demon possession?? There are freaky scenes in here, especially at the end. Much bad language and inappropriate behavior with religious items too. But I really didn't find it scary. Except for a few loud bangs - but then I have Hyperacusis so I don't like loud noises. But I would call this a horror book for an intelligent reader. Lots of science and medical in here.
