On the Border with Crook
On the Border with Crook (Basic source books of American history) by John G. Bourke
John G. Bourke
5 stars!
The amount of details in this nonfiction memoir is amazing. This is nonfiction that almost reads like fiction. The old west comes to life during the Indian wars. And I have learned so much from reading this too.. it's very amazing. There's shoot outs, camping without tents outside in -36 F, lots of info on what the different tribes ate (the Apache are in the front half of the book), info on the mule trains... Just packed with info. And excitement too.

The Optimist's Daughter
The Optimist's Daughter by Eudora Welty

I couldn't stand this book. The story details made no sense to me and the characters were super annoying. Almost every sentence in here ends with an exclamation point as if it was the most important thing ever but it's not.

Silver Canyon
Silver Canyon by Louis L'Amour
Louis L'Amour

5 stars!
This book totally captivated me by the very vivid writing and descriptions. The story follows a man who decides he wants to change his life by settling down and getting a ranch and a wife. Before he was known for his gun skills. But there is a huge dispute going on in the town, over a ranch and access to water. So Matt decides to throw himself into the middle of this mess and he hopes to get the girl too. Oh and besides the gun fights, the fist fights and riding through dangerous canyons there's also a murder mystery to spice up the plot!

Written in first person.

Tyger
Tyger by S.F. Said
S.F. Said
5 stars!
I really loved this young adult / middle grade novel. It has a powerful theme of freedom and believing that you can be what you want to be if you believe in yourself. Plus there is an adventure part that involves magic and saving a tiger. 🐅 Two kids against a powerful enemy in a horrible version of London.

For Whom the Cloche Tolls: A Scrap-Book of the
Twenties

For Whom the Cloche Tolls A Scrap-Book of the Twenties by Angus Wilson
Angus Wilson
2 stars
This started out vaguely interesting but it quickly turned into a book I could not relate to at all. Basically this woman dies and these other people are writing what she was like. But since she was a wealthy snob who ran around with a bunch of men I couldn't relate at all
Didn't find it interesting at all. And by the end I was super bored and had no idea what I read or why. The book doesn't seem to have a plot.

After the Funeral
After the Funeral (Hercule Poirot, #33) by Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie

5 stars!!
This book had me totally captivated and absorbed in the plot! And when I was supposed to be sleeping I had found myself thinking about the various suspects and who the killer was! Not all the mysteries have me doing that but this one was..and there were so many suspects who seemed guilty of various things / keeping secrets..but after some careful thought I came up with a suspect. But it had seemed crazy!! Yet somehow my crazy guess was correct!!

Call for the Dead
Call for the Dead by John Le Carré
John Le Carré

3 stars
While I read through the whole book and I did guess who the "bad" spy was, I just couldn't get into this story at all. The plot just didn't interest me. And I couldn't relate to any of the characters at all. It was a pretty fast read though. Just not for me.

I.R.L. by Jenny Goebel
Jenny Goebel

5 stars!
This was a very vivid creepy ghost story with young Lucy living in a very rural isolated part of Alaska: woods without any town nearby. And her classmates are after her too. Unfortunately her parents don't exactly believe her! This is a middle grade book but it packs a solid punch. I was totally hooked on this.

Mama's Bank Account
Mama's Bank Account by Kathryn Forbes
Kathryn Forbes

5 stars!
This was a very relaxing read and an old fashioned adventure set in San Francisco. It features several child sized problems like a sick cat, sending away for something through the mail when you don't have the money for it, the question of what food to bring to a fancy school tea party when your classmates are snobs and you don't fit it and many other adventures. I really enjoyed this one.

I found it very slow and very easy to guess. The plot was predictable and it's supposed to be horror but since the main character was pretty flat emotionally it kind of flopped. Too much focus on the business in here and no scary stuff.

Something Crawled Out: The Complete Series
Something Crawled Out The Complete Series by Son M.
Son M.

3 stars
This was a cross between horror and a mystery. It's very bloody and gory. Also has a supernatural twist. But after reading this I found myself still confused as to what was going on in here. I understand part of it but not the other part. And that is unfortunate. I wish things would have been more clear...

Incredible Book. Virginia is so honest about her life and fought so hard to stop Sexual Abuse Predators from destroying more lives like they did her own. She was brave, but it took its toll. So, wished she could have found a way to rejoice her life. She Deserved It. One to Remember.

The Good Shepherd
The Good Shepherd by C.S. Forester
C.S. Forester

3 stars
I didn't find this to be very exciting or thrilling even though the back cover says it is. It's mostly dialogue on the bridge of the Keeling as Commander George Krause leads his convoy through the Atlantic towards Londonderry during World War II. He has to fight U-boats. But the way it's written... Countless "very well" and "course zero seven two" etc makes it all rather dull..

I did learn the word "comescort " in here. And they were writing these course numbers so much I finally asked Google what they meant so now I know how to read them! But those numbers are practically on almost every page.

And if you want to avoid an enemy, remember to do a random zigzag.

A Horse Named Sky
A Horse Named Sky (Voice of the Wilderness #3) by Rosanne Parry
Rosanne Parry

5 stars!
This is a truly enchanting children's book that is high adventure. The story is from the horse's viewpoint. Sky is a mustang living with his family and then humans come. Before he knows it he is a pony express horse but he really wants to escape to go back to his family. Beautiful art work in here too and tons of it, almost on every page.. lots of danger and excitement.
