The Water Rituals
The Water Rituals (Trilogy of the White City, #2) by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi
Eva García Sáenz de Urturi

5 stars
I actually enjoyed this book more than the first one.
I did guess the killer very early on but then there were a few other twists at the end that did surprise me..
I think part of me enjoying this one more was the fact I was now familiar with the way things work in Spain - I understood it better (while the first book was a crash course in the society / culture)..
The main character also faced a disability in here.
The killer was more human so you could understand the person better.
All of that made a better book.
But you need to read book #1 first.

Dear Fantasy Lovers,

I’m thrilled to share Echoes of the Astral War, a new fantasy epic born from my imagination and love for worlds beyond our own. I invite you to step into a realm where magic pulses in every shadow, destinies clash in cosmic wars, and the line between light and darkness is thinner than you think.

What’s waiting for you in Vatika?

A richly built world of kingdoms, jinn, demons, and hidden realms.

A reluctant hero, William, torn between vision and duty as he discovers ancient powers.

Princesses, betrayal, and a dark prophecy tied to the blood of royalty.

Action, intrigue, romance, and high-stakes battles that challenge the heart and spirit.

Unexpected alliances, heartbreaking losses, and the spark of rebellion that refuses to die.

If you crave a fantasy that combines sweeping adventures and deep emotional journeys, Echoes of the Astral War awaits you.

Please feel free to add it to your To-Read list, leave reviews, and share your thoughts. Your support means the world. 🌌

Let’s walk these realms together—may your sword be sharp and your heart steadfast.

COVID Days: A Poetic Memoir of A Schoolboy’s Life Through the Pandemic

I honestly don’t even know where to start. I just came across this book and it completely blew my mind. COVID Days by Methul Hettiarachchi isn’t just a memoir. It’s not just poetry. It’s a masterpiece — a raw, unfiltered, living snapshot of what life felt like during the pandemic. Every word, every pause, every space on the page is deliberate. You feel the chaos, the fear, the absurdity, the small joys, the heartbreaks, and the moments of pure human connection.

It’s like holding a piece of history in your hands — a time capsule that’s untouched, unpolished, utterly honest, and somehow so beautifully alive. The creativity, the insight, the courage to just let it all be, makes this something you cannot just read — you experience it.

And the best part? The Kindle version is currently free. I can’t recommend this enough. This is one of those books that will stay with you forever.

Grab it here while it’s free: https://a.co/d/01zt81N

Bowl of Heaven
Bowl of Heaven (Bowl of Heaven, #1) by Gregory Benford
Gregory Benford & Larry Niven

5 stars

This was quite the adventure story set in deep interstellar space when the human ship, the SunSeeker, finds this huge bowl-shaped artificial structure in space. The inside is like a planet. And it's name is the Bowl of Heaven. And that is when the adventure starts, because humans being humans they of course got to go investigate it. And they run afowl of the Bird Folk. This structure is so large it boggles the mind! A thousand Earths could fit inside this thing.

Not very much suspense or thrills but plenty of action adventure. Lots of dangerous situations. There are also parts in here about society, change and even world wide weather.

I was entertained throughout.

It's the first book in a trilogy and it hints that something mysterious is waiting at their destination of the Glory system.

Trail of Lightning
Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World, #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse
Rebecca Roanhorse
4 stars
The ending of this one left me feeling very confused. The main character, Maggie, has some serious flaws (and she has magical abilities too) - she is a monster slayer who tracks down evil monsters. But she does very questionable things. I enjoyed reading this. Lots of action. Quick moving plot. But that ending!

The book is very unique as it's about the Diné (the Navajo) and tells about their monsters. This is set in a world after a huge disaster and the States is gone, most of it under water. But the reservations survive. The whole book has a very strong feel of a western with people doing what they want to do.

“I just wrapped The Art of Being Relentless by James Robbins, and I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s not your everyday self-help book — it digs deeper, pushing you to build discipline, resilience, and relentless momentum. It felt like a wake-up call. If you’re serious about growth, it’s a must-read.

The Mark of the Beast: The Continuing Story of the Spear of Destiny
The Mark of the Beast The Continuing Story of the Spear of Destiny by Trevor Ravenscroft
Trevor Ravenscroft
3 stars
It was making these really wild claims that I just couldn't believe at all. But a good chunk of the book is about self discovery and becoming more spiritual and developing intuition. And he says that computers and the materialism is bad for that. That people lose their humanity and they grow colder + harsh. That part I can believe.

This was written way before AI but look at the messes AI is doing: people losing their jobs and all...

Maryann Forbes | 11 comments I just finished The Elements by John Boyne, and I'm giving it 5 stars. Boyne's portrayal of the characters brought them alive for me. His writing, specifically when speaking as a woman, reminded me of Wally Lamb in its realism. The book, written in a dual time line, is about family, betrayal, reconciliation, connections and love.

I had some problems with this book. Some of the things in here were too weird for me to accept and to believe. I know it's a kid's book and generally I do enjoy reading kid's books but having a bicycle race over the rooftop of a mansion really stretches it too far. Plus I feel the title is very inaccurate. Half the time the girl forgot all about the ghost mouse. How sad.

Dana Cowen | 1 comments I just 5 minutes ago finished “It Ends WITH US” wasn’t quite expecting the plot! I lived in an abusive marriage for 16 year! He was charming, funny! But there where times he wasn’t! I stayed because I loved him, thinking I couldn’t breathe without him! Then one day he abandoned us, me and three kids 42 miles from town! He left with my best friend! Lily was very brave and courageous not like me! I cried when she wanted a divorce. Oh what strength!

Pisces51 | 7 comments I finished reading a 2018 Matt Kurtz novel which was Revised and Re-Edited in 2025, published this year. "Kinfolk" (2025) was a fascinating blend of Horror, Backwoods Hillbilly Cannibals, Suspense, and an ambience of the Old West with vigilante justice and the love of two brothers at its center. I really enjoy his works. Rated the novel a solid 4 Stars.

I had wanted a good mystery but instead this was a boring drama. It was about stuff like which holidays to celebrate on Mars, how much down time do they need, etc. this stuff just couldn't hold my interest. Something big didn't happen until page 270! I was very generous with the 3 star rating.
