The book you like most discussion
What is the last book you read, and how much did you rate it?
Night Watch by Jayne Anne Phillips and I gave it 5 stars. It won the Pulitzer Prize and was so worthy of it. A fantastic novel.
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson ⭐⭐⭐⭐It's a very short gothic tale (I think I read it in about 15 mins) portraying the dangers of not challenging traditions.
Not my usual type of read, but I've challenged myself to read more classics this year, and I'm glad I gave this one a go.
I just finished
Whatever Happened to Lori Lovely? by Sarah McCoyReally Different Book about a Star Actress in Glamorous Hollywood 1960’s, who leaves and Enters a Convent to become a Nun.
If you live near Winston-Salem, NC there is a book event from Friday, 9/26 and Saturday, 9/27. Sarah McCoy is sponsoring some events and will be there along with many Top Authors. I am definitely going to go to this.
I finished this today:DNF at 82 percent. It's just too depressing and the husband in here was just too cruel. Maxi was trying to learn things and he just dismissed what she was trying to learn as "useless". And she constantly says "sorry" about everything.
Under the Oak Tree, Vol. 1
Suji Kim
2 stars!
Crime and Punishment- DostoevskyOne some level it feels rude to give a rating for a classic masterpiece, but for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just finished:Looking for Smoke
K.A. Cobell
4 stars!
This is a very twisty murder mystery where the main characters have secrets. It's set on a Blackfeet Nation reservation in Montana. Definitely a very good story!
Raw by Lizzy Bequin - 4: It didn't quite level up to spectacular, which is a 5 and mush be perfectly edited.3 - something's wrong with the story or proofreading but I finished it.
2 - a "what the heck?" reaction
1 - not worth the paper/electricity used to create it
I have now finished:Hitler and the Occult
Ken Anderson
4 stars!
A well written book that tries to explain Hitler. A good chunk of this talks about the Lance of Destiny and about Providence that he believed in.
The author spends a lot of time debunking other stuff too saying there is no proof.
I never heard of this Lance before...
I enjoyed this one.
I just finished Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov. I have read many Russian classics and I've been worshiping the big Russian masters since I was a teenager, but this one touched me in a very deep meaningful way. Highly recommend it.
I just finished:Horse Camp
Carrie Seim
5 stars!
This is a delightful mystery about a missing horse named Silver Streak. And Wills is willing to do anything to solve the mystery at horse camp. The overall message is that friends stick together like a herd. The clues in here are plenty but the mystery is satisfying.
The Merge by Grace Walker ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️It is to be released in November & I highly recommend to anyone who likes speculative fiction or dystopian futures. It has been my favorite book this year.

I just finished:H.P. Lovecraft's The Colour Out of Space
Gou Tanabe
5 stars!
Truly incredible story! I never read Lovecraft before so I was very surprised by this short story in manga form.
The last five stars I gave was to The Book of Lost Hours. The last book I finished was The Coworker, not Freida's best but worthy of 3 *'s imo.
I read another graphic novel. Land of Mirrors
María Medem
3 stars
I do wish more things had been explained in this story. It's about the main character focusing on a single lonely flower. And there is a complicated maze to solve in here too!
Stephen Mitchell's version of Gilgamesh.
After reading If You Want to Write by Brenda Ueland, I try not to rate books. Art is interpreted differently by each person who views it, and books are just the art of the written word. One person may love a story for the same reason another hates it. So ratings are unreliable. The best way to know if you like a book is to read it. Besides, what right do I have to judge a novel written nearly four-thousand years ago? Their book has been remembered throughout time, while mine may be quickly forgotten.
I will say, I enjoyed this interpretation of Gilgamesh, and the explanation that followed. It's a version I wouldn't mind reading again.
Deadly Mistake
3.5 stars
Read as an ARC from #NetGalley
fast high stake thriller
My review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Infinite SeaI gave it three stars, it wasn't as good as the first book The Fifth Wave and was a bit unclear some of the time. Also the rats? Why did it seem like the characters spent chapters talking about the rats???
Caraval, overall for me is a 4.1. It took me over a MONTH to just pick it up and then it was boring for me in the beginning so I just reread the first 3-4 chapters over and over because I could NOT get into it. I have no idea why. But then I finished and I think 4.1 is reasonable. Maybe a little too much idk🤷♀️
Yesterday I read this one:Scotland Yard Photo Crimes, Volume 3: More Dastardly Crimes from the Files of Inspector Black of Scotland Yard
Henry Black
1 star!
The puzzles in here made no sense.
It said you are supposed to use the photos as clues but that made no sense to me as you had blood free victims with knives sticking out! A wrote a very detailed review.
I mean the no blood tells me the guy was already dead before he was stabbed?? But the puzzle doesn't support that idea. So why are we supposed to use the photos if the photos lead us to the "wrong" conclusion?

I loved it and I don't normally like shorts.
One of my favorite series 5/5
