Got a copy of Peter Panzerfaust HC on eBay for 14 bucks and its one of the more charming books I read this year. It’s thin and I zoomed through it in an hour or two but dying to read the rest now.
Sadly, they lost money on the first hardcover of Peter Panzerfaust and there doesn't appear to be any appetite to try to print any more in hardcover. :( I chatted with the creators on FB a year or so about it and they were pretty clear they were not interested in trying something again at that time. A complete collection in hardcover would be nice though.
I read a few books recently. My thoughts -
Judge Dredd Deadworld vol 1 HC. Very well done art. The story is about the world the evil judges come from and how they destroyed their world as some of the judges went bad. Story follows a rogue judge trying to do the right thing and a family caught in the crossfire. I will be looking to get the second volume when it comes out.
Batman Detective Comics Rebirth DLX vol 3. Really impressed with this volume and enjoying the story with some interesting time travel elemtents. Tom King is getting a lot of chatter for his Batman run and I'm not hearing much about this but it's good stuff.
Darth Vader OHC vol 1 (Soule). Pretty decent as we pick up with Vader right after the events of Revenge of the Sith with Vader getting his armor and chasing after Jedi that might have been missed by order 66.
Alien Predator Prometheus Library Edition by Dan Abnett. Well written and enjoyed the story. Very nice large book for a reasonable price. You don't need to read the Fire and Stone Library Edition before this one but if you did and like it you'll like this one as well.

Harrow County Library Edition 1
Not sure if you guys are familiar with Local Comic Shop day, unfortunately it doesnt seem to be getting more popular and Marvel doesnt invest much into it, but Valiant released a little gem last week: 1,000 signed copies of the upcoming X-O Manowar HC were distributed to participating comics shops. A few copies are on eBay at cover price it seems.Anyway, couldnt resist. Unlike previous Valiant HC there is not that glossy jacket, but damn does the print right on the hard cover look great. Paper is still great. Sewn binding. The yellow wrap around has the Local Comic Shop day logo and is removable, not part of the literal hard cover. Extra page sewn in at the beginning with Matt Kindt's signature and printed extra image:

Imagine if Marvel would do that with one or two omnibuses each year, seems like it would be a great way to get people into comic shops. Seems like a no brainer but when you make billions on movies its probably not a priority.
Very nice. If I still went to an LCS I would have picked one up.
I'm all for getting rid of dust jackets and that first Kindt page looks sweet.
Yeah if marvel did this it would definitely bring people into stores. They could randomly choose comic stores to make it fair. Even have a Marvel day in addition to FCBD. Wasted opportunities...

It would be a clever way to spice up repackaged material. Like if the Dark Phoenix saga or Mutant Massacre Omnis had a signed by Cockrum/Byrne and the Simonsons respectedly. Anyway, random ramblings.
That definitely would be very cool if Marvel did something like that to get people into stores. Side note: does anyone have a good comic shop near them? I’m sure it’s mostly just inaccurate memories, but the shop in my hometown was fantastic and the owner always wanted to talk comics or movies (also worked across the street at the local theater). Saw him at all the midnight showings participating with fans. Years after I moved away his shop was damaged beyond repair by a building fire next door and he never reopened. Lost some good classic titles. Felt bad for him.
Where I live now, no shops, and my last city before it, none had that familiar/welcoming vibe to stick around and talk shop. Get in, get out, teenagers working just to make a buck.
I’m in Seattle, several good ones, especially the Gabriel (just meh) at DreamStrands is super cool and Comics Dungeon is also pretty great. Before in SF, Mission Comics and Art was the best. Leaf the owner is a real nice guy and invites great comics people for signings, got to talk to Greg Rucka there for a while and had him sign Cyclops #1 and he wrote a cool personal message based on our talk.
I live in Germany, we have one of the biggest LCS of Germany in my hometown and he carries a cellar full of US comics, literally. Mostly cover price though but from time to time some OOP items show up as well (looking at Absolute Top Ten). New comics must be bought online though, and next to no chance to participate in any US driven campaign. However, if you are also digging European comics it is a happy place.
Coincidence! Actually, I live close to Stuttgart, the LCS is located in Esslingen. The world gets smaller everyday.
Fun fact: The Stuttgart scene in Avengers #1 wasn't filmed in Stuttgart.
I live in Trinidad so there are hardly any comic shops here. Very niche so most of my stuff is amazon and shipped to the island. Its starting to grow though and more and more you see stuff being advertised
Not really proper here, but didn’t want y’all to miss out in case you like this stuff.
I’m selling tons of statues (only a couple books) on eBay. Many ending in the next hour but many others I’m listing every night. User name is erik.eastham.
If you bid and win, I’ll nock 8% off the sales price if you want to cancel it and do the transaction off of eBay.
Now back to good stuff . . . So pumped for all the Geof Darrow goodness that just dropped on my shelves. I’ll try to share some pics. Art is insane!!

Nope, it’s the new volume/relaunch that started around 2016 probably, first 15 issues and some bonus stuff
Bill Sienkiewicz's Mutants and Moon Knights and Assasins Artifact Edition finally arrived and worth the wait, put up a few photos in case any Sienkiewicz lover's are still on the fence.https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Its about 1/3 of each subject with a lot of the Electra art his water colored(ish?) final product and the mutants/moon knight just his inks with particularly a lot of moon knight covers included. The new mutants stuff is so god damn good.
Some recent acquisitions over the last few months, from most recent to oldest. Duggan's GotG is in there twice because in the third pic I'd gotten the first TPB, decided he'd resurrected the spirit of DnA's original Cosmic run, and immediately got the Omnibus, in pic two. Also, sorry for the wildly varying quality: pic one's my new phone and a lot better than the PoS webcam the others were taken with.

Looks like a lot of good stuff there. What is the book next to Yragael Urm the Mad (at it's size now I see why it's so expensive)?
Erik wrote: "What do y’all think of the Goodreads winner and nominations for best graphic novel?"
Link of all nominees and winners: https://www.goodreads.com/choiceaward...
I usually review and vote for a few categories for the annual Goodreads awards but did not this year.
This winner this year is more newpaper cartoon vs graphic novel - which still fits the genre (I guess) but that is very different than longer form story telling I usually read in this genre. I wish these were split into different categories. Which, were these split based on the voting for the books that are left, would mean Saga TPB vol 8 would be the winner. I thought Saga started really well but I liked the second HC less than the first.
I thought the two last place books (Black Hammer and Black Bolt) have both gotten very strong positive reactions in the comic book community. Their position on the list is possibly more due to the audience voting versus quality.

Separating the newsprint stuff would be a good idea. I generally don't vote but peruse the nominees to give me a feel for what's popular at the moment. While I'm sure most or all of it is good the subject matter often doesn't interest me. I'm probably going to wait for the last Saga HC before I read it all straight through.
My order for this week:
Realm TPB vol 2 (came out a week or so ago)
Paradiso TPB vol 2
Batman Rebirth DLX vol 3 (King)
And copies of TPB vol 1 and 2 of Kill Six Billion Demons for gifting to someone.
I do want to pick up the Waid Fantastic Four omnibus at some point.

I typically collect Omnis from Marvel and the occasional DC Deluxe. This week I got one of my whales from Ebay: Remender's Uncanny X-Force Omni for under $200.And I randomly found a Howard the Duck Omni on Amazon for cheap, laugh. I've got the 3 new Omnis coming from IST: Byrne Universe 2, Waid FF, and Loeb / Sale's omni.
I'd like to thank you guys for turning me on to IST. I'm saving on purchase price vs. my usual Amazon, but I do dislike IST's prep and time to ship. :-( Spoiled by 2 day or less Prime shipping.
Glad you’re using IST! I hear ya about the shipping but the prices are the reason I don’t have 50% less books. And congrats on Uncanny. It’s so good and the art is incredible, hope you love it. On the other end of the quality spectrum, I found the regular x-force Omni for cheap and got it for x-men completion sake.
Thanks. I read the original Remender TPBs back in the day, but missed the omni before it sold out. I quite enjoyed it. Figured I wouldn't let that happen again with anything I was remotely interested in, heh. That leaves, Mighty Thor #1 and Silver Surfer Omnis as my whales.
I think we have the same whales! Congrats on the XForce though. I don't even look anymore just hope for a reprint.
FYI There was a buy it now for $200 I was going to jump to if I didn't win the auction, looks like it's still there. :)https://www.ebay.com/itm/Uncanny-X-Fo...
Thanks. I just can't pay that much for a book. Especially when I still have the singles to read if I wanted to.
Bizarrely enough, getting into the bigger collections eventually led to me getting back into some singles for custom binding purposes.
I do love Amazon's two day shipping. But balancing spending less and getting books in usually perfect condition, IST has been the winner for me for a while.

Coming tomorrow on IST:
Not Absolute Flashpoint vol 1. It's been moved to next year but still shows up on IST as coming out tomorrow. :p
Animal Man by Morrison DLX vol 1
Complete Chester Gould Dick Tracy HC vol 25
EC Archives Vault of Horror HC
Harley Loves Joker by Paul Dini HC (standard size?)
Marvel Masterworks Amazing Spider-Man vol 20
Pathfinder Spiral of Bones HC
Prague Coup HC
Pre-Code Classics Hand of Fate Slipcase
Seven to Eternity TPB vol 3
Silver Age Classics Tales of the Mysterious Traveler HC/Slipcase
Superman/Shazam First Thunder DLX
While it is not listed on IST right now I believe the Aquaman omnibus by Johns comes out tomorrow.

New comic book publisher and release strategy coming with several big name creators attached: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/12/...
I am interested in Sara (Epting and Breitweiser's art looks fantastic as usual) and Dr. Fang looks interesting too. Not pumped that it doesn't sound like there is a oversize hardcover planned for their material at all.

This is from Joshua Dysart on his twitter:Read the first issue of my new comic book, GOODNIGHT PARADISE for FREE right now! (And all the TKO first issues too!)

Model of TKO
Now waiting for HC announcements...
Fantastic model. At some point marvel and DC will have to change. Continually increasing the price of monthly comics isn't going to keep working.
I'll have to check out the first issue on some of those.

Received yesterday:Colossal King Conan by Dark Horse
Marvel Master Works Thor Vol. 17
Immortal Hulk TPB Vol. 1
If anyone is on the fence about the Slott and Allred Silver Surfer omnibus, I just finished reading it last night and it was very good. I had to change my best Marvel book of the year to this volume over King's Vision. This was the best thing I've ever read by Slott and pretty high for my all-time Marvel list.
Hey all, it is very hard for me to not finish something I’ve started. Meaning, if I start a book, game, movie etc. I will finish it even though I know early on or half way through that I’m not enjoying it.
As such, should I read Wicked and Divine DLX 3? I’m thinking no as I’ve made my decision to sell all 3 anyway. Does anything incredible actually happen? This series is entirely overrated IMO.
