Per IST, today they will be offering the following new editions for sale:

Batman Brave and Bold Bronze Age vol 2
Battlepug Compugdium HC
Nightwing Rebirth DLX vol 3
Problem of Susan and Other Stories HC (Neil Gaiman)
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl OHC vol 4

Sandman Omnibus vol 3 is listed as coming out today on IST however Amazon shows a release date of the first week of April so I expect it to actually come out on IST the last week of March.

Didn't absolute flashpoint get delayed?

Yes sir, it is currently available on Amazon but not on IST. Maybe it comes out today? Usually the comic books shops (and IST) distribution system releases books a week earlier than the book store distribution system (including Amazon) but perhaps with the delay the books stores go their copies out first.

I'm having second thoughts anyway. I'd still like those "Road to flashpoint" issues and maybe they'll put all that in the omnibus.

I noticed two reviews on Amazon, one very grateful the Absolute only has the main event and another one complaining the Absolute only has the main event. :D

Yeah I hear the other tieins aren't that great. I'm guessing they'll do a Rebirth absolute as well to match this one...

I went ahead and ordered the Final Incal slipcase on Amazon at $25 off cover. It states in the description it's a numbered limited edition and those often don't stay in stock on IST very long or get much of a discount. I haven't read any of Jodo's material yet and this seems like the nicest way to check out his universe.

Anyone have any comment on the quality of the Battle Angel Alita series? I saw a slipcase version with 7 hardcovers recently came out. Sold out on IST (not sure if more are on the way or not) and it's $50 more on Amazon vs initial release price now.

I think you just mean, The Incal: Limited Edition Oversized Deluxe? If so, I did the same thing. Its still pricey, but looks awesome and I have been waiting years to get this book so will take advantage of this format. If IST ends up doing 50% which I doubt, then can always consider swapping them out.

message 4810: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
That is the book I meant. :) I've never seen IST do a 50% off on a Humanoid book on release and with this being a limited edition (no idea on edition size) I would be surprised if they did for this book. They have a 25% off of the Incal books available now but it could be slightly higher than that on release? We should have a week before the Amazon release to try to pick it up from IST if it's cheaper and they don't sell out before we have a chance to grab one. :)

Nickviola | 1019 comments So excited for these that I pulled over on the way home from the post office to look at them:

https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Silver Surfer omnibus and Machine Man omnibus, both Panini Press (in italian). Machine Man I don’t think even is in english print.

(Not to beat a dead horse but new people may not know) Panini Press puts these out in italy and they are identical to US version except writing is translated to Italian and covers put the titles in the opposite direction. Sometimes the covers are matte which is kind of awesome. Anyway, for books you want for the art it’s something to consider and if you know a little Italian or want to learn it’s kind of fun to read too. I got both for $110 including shipping and they pop up on eBay from time to time. But now I’ve got my own mini Italian omni collection with these, Warlock, Namor (which is horrible), Eternals, and X-Men 1&2.

Is the Namor the Byrne/Jae Lee run?

message 4813: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Its the 1990 run where I think Byrne does everything, it’s 18 issues and pixelated and just terrible looking. I love Byrne so I have no idea what happened, I’ve never seen the original issues to known if it’s a printing problem or just a different style choice by him that didn’t work out.

Very cool. :)

Read Absolute Batman The Killing Joke today. Very brief story for the format (50 pages) and we see the story printed the original coloring job and the remastered coloring job by the original artist. I went with the original coloring for my first read through.

For sure one of the great Batman stories. The art is amazing in the details as I had to pause several times just to appreciate how well put together some of the scenes were. There was a scene where Batman's image is reflected below him in a puddle which helps create the atmosphere of the moment. It's the kind of detail work I often don't see and many artists couldn't pull off and many wouldn't even think of something like it.

I'll be curious what you think of the FF when stacked against the other significant runs.

message 4819: by Ozan (last edited Jan 28, 2019 10:54AM) (new)

Ozan (dotanuki) | 222 comments I haven't read the Stan Lee or John Byrne runs yet but i will so i can't make any comperasan. I only read some of Ultimate Fantastic Four and Marvel Knights Fanstastic Four back in the day... both were ok. Goat leged Dr. Doom was lame though lol I also didn't like the ultimate Galactus... But it wasn't even in FF, such a blasphemy...

message 4820: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Outside of the ridiculousness of some of the rogues gallery, Lee's and Kirby's FF is my favorite of the initial volume runs. I found ASM and X-Men (which I generally love) almost unreadable in comparison. And Byrne's run is fantastic in my opinion. I'd give them a strong consideration unless you only buy modern runs.

Absolutes are usually 50% on IST but only the week of release. Then they go to the typical 42% off. None of them have sold out immediately in my experience so if you miss that first week they should be available for months.

Hey everyone, not sure where else to turn.

Working on my annual comic logging and stumbled on a problem with Amazing Spiderman.

Volume IV #32 is followed by # 789. My excel shows that it should have been followed by # 767, this is after including the point 1 issues in Volume III and Volume IV

Volume III # 1 is actually 701, so going from that point forward . . . I think I caught all the point issues.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

And the numbering debacle continues. Daredevil 595 . . . actually the 612th comic in the line; 614 if you count .1s.

Oh Marvel how you have tortured my obsessive compulsive desire for order!!!!

Honestly, I look at Wikipedia to see what is posted there for how the numbering stuff works. Marvel has made a mess with a lot of their series. Cap is also wonky.

message 4838: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments I can attest to the wonkiness, though half the fun for me has been researching and tracking my own reading order.

For my X-Men books, I try to reference a few different sites, including Wikipedia, to more or less triangulate what my order should be. Even then, reading book to related book still presents a surprise here and there.

Long story short, the best order you can find is the one you create yourself!

Erik,

This doesn't completely answer your question, because it excludes the Point 1 issues and stops after #789, but recently Marvel tried to revive their legacy numbering and they provided the issues they used to count them. This website has a summary and explanation:

Nickviola | 1019 comments Added a book I had been hoping would come out since I started collecting 6 years ago: Ms. Marvel: A Hero is Born (specifically the DM version, i love the original covers)

message 4842: by JohnIV (new)

JohnIV | 76 comments eBay had a seller (jscomics) put 65 Marvel Omnis online this last week ending Sunday, including some rare whales. I was able to snag my big three among others:

Mighty Thor 1
Buscema Silver Surfer
X-Men 1

First time I had played w/ eBay auctions; went with the sniping software (Gixen) suggestion and won them all. :-)

I'm up to 160 Marvel Omnis now. I collected from '75-'85 and they're in long boxes, so I'm happy to be able to go with Omnis to fill in, read stuff that came before and after, and display them. Probably a similar sentiment to everyone here. :-)

Damn. Guess I’m going to have to stop scheduling clients between 1-4 on Tuesdays. The DM is sold out. Literally been in my wishlist for months. IST doesn’t order enough.

message 4847: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I logged on at like 1:15 PST and it was the DM version was 4th best selling book on their top 10 list, but now it’s not even in the top 10. I don’t know what that means but weird. Sorry they ran out.

For what it’s worth, while I love the old covers, the book spends 99.9% of their life on a shelf with the cover not visible.
