I hope you love Hickman's FF4. I really enjoyed it. :) And if you don't, the demand doesn't seem to be going away.

Do you have revamped statue set-up pictures?

My statue buying has dipped to almost nothing. I have one statue on order (the new Sideshow Black Widow) and its the only one of the year. If there was a reasonably priced Winter Soldier 1/4th that I liked the sculpt I'd be temped to add him to the three 1/4th Caps I have. If/When Bowen comes back I'll certainly pay attention to what he releases and I may dip my feet back in. That is still a year or so away IIRC.

When you need another book to get to $50 on IST you should look at The Book of Chaos. :)

In comic book news, Marvel's Old Man Logan is ended at issue 50. However, they are then starting a 12 part mini-series called Dead Man Logan where he works on tying up his affairs: https://www.cbr.com/dead-man-logan-li...

I didn't realize you had started with the 1/4 scale. Are they all XM or is one or two Sideshow?

I'm in the same boat: basically no statues except for one this year which should be arriving in a couple weeks. Even if Bowen returns there are only a couple that I want to get.

I've been slow to go 1/4th. I have two Sideshow Caps and one Gentle Giant (two Winter Soldier blue uniform Cap and one classic look with the WWII Tommy Gun Cap). I had the sideshow Wonder Woman with spear but sold it after a while because I didn't love it. The only other 1/4th I have is Sideshow Poison Ivy and Snake Eyes. I still prefer the Bowen scale.

I really like the XM status but they are just too expensive. In hindsight I wish I worked harder to get the first XM Cap - I figured out a source but balked at the price.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Erik: I totally understand. I used to collect records when I was single and dropped off and had more spending money then got married and had a baby and started colllecting books. I am a little more selective than I was 2 years ago - but even this month I preordered the Sienkiewicz new mutants artist edition and got the John Byrne artifact edition, spending double on books what I had planned for the month. My wife is pretty understanding but we rent a two bedroom in Seattle and the book space is not nothing.

That said, it’s a safe hobby that can’t escalate too crazy (not like cars or motorcycles or even bikes or skiing, much less drinking or drugs) and it’s reading for fucks sake. Who doesn’t want their kid or partner to have a hobby of reading?!? So I get the stress but it’s a good hobby and hope you enjoy all the books you picked up!!

message 4359: by Karsten (new)

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments I hear you, Erik. Been there with Lego a while back, sold the stuff, arriving now at some solid filled shelves of comics goodness.

Yep, its reading and so a sound argument for your kids to get into reading instead of ... say ... Lego ;-(

One statue only, a Hot Toys Vision which I got pretty cheap.

Congrats Nick. Enjoy that Hickman, my friend. It's the best ride. I'm actually poised for a reread as well.

I have the Seven Soldiers of Victory Omnibus on the way, along with an OMAC tpb.

I also went ahead and grabbed one of the damaged JLI Omnibus from IST along with the JSA: The Golden Age Deluxe Edition.

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments It's interesting to see others go through the same cycle as me as a collector...when you start collecting, you buy pretty much everything...eventually at some point you run out of space...sell, sell, sell...continue buying with more but with more scrutiny. I've made it to the point where I limit buying...but I still can't fit everything on my shelves =/

Over the last few months I picked up Batman by Morrison Vol.1, Seven Soldiers, Absolute Authority 2, Avengers by Hickman Vol.2, Punisher Max Vol.2, and BPRD Hell on Earth 2. Will look to get Spiderman Kraven's Last Hunt OHC and Sixth Gun Vol 5 as well in coming weeks. I'm contemplating Batman 66 but will likely pass.

Next month I'm looking at Absolute Killing Joke, Moon Knight by Lemiere OHC and Injustice Year One OHC. Still thinking about the Loeb/Sale Batman Omni...I've got the absolutes which I think I'll sell to get this edition...just not sure yet.

It looks like our options for the volume 2 Deadly Class hardcover will be Yellow for the regular or Pink for the variant.

The pictures I saw showed the same picture on the cover for both versions: https://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Class-D...

Whales (some minor some major) I want:

Usagi Yojimbo HC vol 1
Siegfried vol 1 HC by Alex Alice
The Ring of Nibelung by P. Craig Russell HC
X-Men Inferno OHC
Ultimate Spider-Man OHC vol 7 and 9
Star Wars Crimson Empire Saga HC
Danger Girl/GI Joe Red Label Edition
GI Joe vs Transformers Omnibus
Easton Press Stardust by Neil Gaiman
(Also interested in a full set of Steven Canyon HCs)

Top two prized books is tough - Non comic-book may be my autobiography of Paul Tibbets (WWII vet who dropped the atom bomb) signed by the author, the bombardier, and the navigator.

Comic book - Colossal Conan is a thing of beauty and with Marvel taking the license will probably never be reprinted in the same format. Second may be the Kingdom Come Absolute. One of the all time great stories - when the Spectre yells "Judgement!" it gives me chills.

To go beyond the initial questions somewhat - my current two favorite art pieces I have are the Olly Moss Lawrence of Arabia (blue version #5 of ten copies made) and the Man of Steel by Ken Taylor blue variant. Ise Anaphada Princess Bride would be a runner up.

Two favorite slabbed single issues would be: Captain America issue 6 variant (vol 5) by Brubaker and Epting (first appearance of the Winter Soldier) signed by Sebastian Stan. The second would be Avengers Standoff Steranko variant signed by Steranko.

Nickviola | 1019 comments First of all... JOHN BYRNE X-MEN ARTIFACT EDITION arrived today and as soon as my family is asleep I’m going to look at it for hours.

It also came with Abe Sapien: The Drowning HC and just to be super cool, IST threw in the reprint of BPRD Hell on Earth HC vol 2 (correcting the prior 1 page reprint). They must have seen I previously ordered the misprint and without me even asking sent the corrected edition. I guess whenever you order a bellboy related book they are self-screening to see if you previously got a misprint? They are the f-ing best.

IST does have a policy if you order a misprinted book and the company does a free reprint they will send it to everyone that ordered the misprinted book free of charge in their next order after the replacement print. :) I also got a copy of the same book. :)

Read the third Samurai Executioner TPB omnibus vol 3 this weekend. Several very strong stories in this volume. The first one out of the gate could easily be adapted into an excellent movie with some interesting twists and turns as the main character is directed to kill someone with five powerful family clans that run significant utilities in the large town the story is in prepared to stop him.

I'm not sure that these books count as Manga? When I look at the definition: "A style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at adults as well as children," I'm not sure this fits. The art, while black and white, seems more typical of western style realism. EDIT - - The author's description on Goodreads notes he is a anime author. Perhaps this is more nationality based than style based?

I'd like to read Bersek but I don't want to pick up over 20 tiny paperbacks. This series really needs larger collected editions (preferably in hardcover).

Crap. I forgot about that FF Behold Galactus book. I'd really like to take a look at that first though.

message 4380: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments I love the FF so much, love to get these books coming out.

I had Byrne 1 but sold it when I heard about the reprint because it’s spine was banged up so I’ll pick up that and Behold Galactus just to see the art on pages that big.

message 4381: by guanaeps (new)

guanaeps (saethron) | 88 comments Definitely in for the Behold Galactus HC. Not sure what to get along with it to get that free shipping, maybe I'll finally buy Tokyo Ghost.

ebay has been kind to me lately:

I didn't want to jinx it, but Ed Brubaker's Sleeper Omnibus––still in its wrapping no less––arrived today. I feel like the seller mistakenly listed it as a buy it now...because I got it for 49.99 plus 5 dollar shipping.

Yesterday I won an auction for Absolute Planetary Vol 1 and 2, in mint condition...and no one bid for it. Granted, it was a canadian listing, which I think automatically puts people off, but again, I ended up paying ~$37 for each book, including the shipping.

And last but not least, I got The League of Extraordinary Gentleman Omnibus HC for less than $50.

Humbled.

So happy y'all posted about the BPRD Hell on Earth HC vol 2 reprint.

I noticed last week that I had two of them and I assumed I accidentally bought it twice (it was a period of weeks where I ordered every week to keep that 2% going) I almost listed one on eBay thinking it was simply a duplicate . . . now to figure out which is which. Anyone know what page the misprint is on?

Go IST for simply throwing it in the box!!!

I liked Secret Wars and it was pretty good for such an early event type comic. :) I need to read the second one at some point.

Only read Secret wars... had it on TPB and this was an "ebay upgrade" :) Was not aware how pricy the omnibus was getting.

All the rest will be new reads for sure, but BPRD/ABE will only start reading when all the volumes of "Hell on Earth" are out, and also Batman by Morrison will only read when the complete run is out.

Batman by Loeb and Sale omnibus
Batman by Scott Snyder TBP box set 3
Batman and Catwoman the Wedding Album DLX
Berlin the Complete Edition HC
Castle in the Stars HC vol 2
Dragon Age Stolen Throne DLX
Earth X Trilogy Alpha Omnibus vol 1 (of 2)
Kingdom of the Dwarfs HC
Perdy HC vol 1 (size?)
Planet of the Apes Archive vol 4
Spider-Man versus Venom Omnibus
Wedding of Cyclops and Phoenix (omnibus size)

I skipped a week ordering from IST but ordered a like new The Sixth Gun DLX vol 2 from a used seller on Amazon for $21 shipped. We'll see what shape it is in when it arrives. :)

I'll likely order the Wedding of Cyclops and Phoenix and the Earth X omnibus Friday.

I am annoyed DC is not including the prelude issues for the Batman/Catwoman Wedding Album in the DLX - they are only available in TPB.

While I am sure IST clears at least a few 100 orders per week it is interesting to note the Punisher Maxx omnibus vol 2 was the best seller for multiple weeks.

Next week is also a busy release week with:
Absolute Killing Joke
Batman the Arkham Saga omnibus
Marvel Masterworks Fantastic Four vol 20
Rick and Morty HC vol 3
Sky Doll Sudra OHC
Star Wars Classic Newpaper Comics vol 3
Tyler Cross Black Rock HC (size?)
